Amazing, flavorful, fresh Thai Food! I have been coming here since they opened and have yet to have a meal I didnt thoroughly enjoy. Some of my favorites include: Green Curry - sweet, spicy and full of fresh veggies, Three Flavor Fish - sweet, sour and spicy - loaded with flavor from basil and cilantro and Pad Thai - who doesnt love pad thai with peanuts?! I noticed some reviewers have commented on the pricing, in comparision to other restaurants in the area, I dont feel that The Spice is overpriced. The average meal is around $13.50 - $14.00, unless you want Duck or Fish. In my opinion, taking the portion sizes and freshness into consideration, I think the prices are very reasonable. They might be more expensive than some of the cash only Asian restaurants in town, but its also a much different dining experience and higher quality meal. I highly recommend this restaurant for a nice night out and take friends and family here whenever they come to visit from out of town. This has been a great addition to the Main Street area in my opinion.

I went to Thai Spice for lunch and it was my first time there. I asked the server some questions about the menu and her answers were very vague like she had very little knowledge of the items on the menu, she said the two things that were very clearly stated that I could read just fine. She didnt really interact with myself or my group or tell us what the lunch special included. When we asked her for extra sauce she just brought us a sauce dish but no sauce. Then we clarified that we wanted more sauce she looked at us like a deer in headlights. It took her forever to get us a refill on water and she rarely checked on us. We were not asked if we wanted anything else or if we were even enjoying our meal. The lunch hour was very slow so maybe she was just having an off day but for the price of the food I would have appreciated better service. Overall the food was great but the service really needed some work.

Easily the best Thai in town. On my fairly frequent trips to larger cities, I try to find a Thai place to eat at, and even with all the other places Ive been, The Spice is still a stand-out. The food is always good quality and its evident great care goes into preparing each dish. The Spice is one of the classier Thai restaurants Ive been to, and the prices reflect that - usually a couple dollars more than some of the more "standard" places. Last time I got the Pad Thai for dinner, which I believe was $12.50, but I got 3 meals out of the generous portion. Service has always been good - they were happy to accommodate my boyfriends request for the chicken to be non-breaded. Atmosphere is quiet and intimate - not really a place for large, noisy groups. Great place for a nice date, though!

A simple, albeit confusing entrance/exit; a clean and classy interior, The Spice Thai Cuisine is an excellent place to impress. The lighting is a bit on the darker side, but enough to easily keep the atmosphere inside quite soft, which makes this place an excellent place for dates in my opinion. The food is excellent and prepared very well, however be prepared to pay for that quality. The time from ordering to serving is decent, considering the quality of the food. This isnt really the kind of restaurant for quick bites, but you will definitely love the full meals here. The portions are nice, and the flavor is great. That said, there is a bit of a limited menu, but nothing that cant be fully enjoyed through experimenting with multiple visits.

Went here today with my family. I was quite disappointed that they didnt have a vegetarian option for the appetizer that came with the lunch special. When I asked if they could substitute something, they said no....which I find ridiculous. The food came out just warm, not hot, and was tasty but not amazing. I will say though, that their fresh spring rolls are delicious. VERY overpriced compared to the rest of the country. Ive been in probably 50+ Thai restaurants around the U.S. and have never seen a lunch "special" over $8.00. They were $10 at The Spice. Too much in my opinion...considering the small portions. Im happy Ames has The Spice, but they need to work on some things.

Terrible food extremely high price. The food is nowhere close to authentic thai dish. The portion was too little. I ordered Pad-ker pow tofu. It came with 5 pieces tofu dipped in some sauce which was probably made at-least a couple days ago (sauce). Two leaves of holy Basil on top. I ordered sticky rice and it had sugar added to it for sweetness although I had specifically asked the server not to add any sugar. Terrible quality for the price. Food alone cost $20. These people should go to Bankok-Thai Deli in Saint Paul and learn how to cook thai food. Terrible food and extremely high price, will never go their ever again.

When youre in the mood for shelling out some extra money for fanciness, go to The Spice. I went there my freshman year with my mother because we were intrigued by the name (The spice must flow!). It was so delicious. Wasabi shumai are nom-ful ^_^. But every time Ive gone back, its been on my own dime. Thusly, I go for the cheap stuff or share a meal. This place wasnt meant for college pocket books, but rather Thai food connoisseur palates. Anyway, yum.

The food here is delicious. I really enjoy their panang curry and their chai tea is to die for. Like other reviewers have said, it is a little more on the pricey side but the quality of the food makes it well worth the price. If you visit here, I would highly recommend using the public parking in the back lot. The entrance to the restaurant is on the side of the building, which can be confusing to anyone who may be going for the first time.

Went there for dinner with a friend a couple weeks ago. She ordered a broccoli and tofu dish, and I the green curry. She found a dead Japanese beetle in her dish about 5 bites in. Really unfortunate, but at least we got it taken off the final bill. I lost my appetite and could only finish half of my dish. The Spice is supposed to be one of the classier Ames restaurants, but I have a difficult time believing that now.

I travel a lot and always try to find Thai restaurants. This is hands down, the most authentic Ive found. The prices are too high, but then again, you expect it because its supposed to be a more upscale restaurant. The atmosphere is beautifully decorated. With the ingredients available here in the U.S., it doesnt get any more authentic.

The Spice is a little pricey but I think they can get away with it in Ames as it is one of if not the best asian cuisine restaurant in town. The atmosphere is nice, the apps are great (love the steamed dumplings) and the curry is always very well prepared and very flavorful. One of my favorite places to eat or get take away in Ames.

The best Thai food in the area. I the wait staff knows the food well and give great suggestions if you dont know what you want. They are also will to accommodate special requests, I am allergic to eggs and they were able to help me find some very good options that either didnt have eggs or could be made with out them.
