To think that this was the place James A. Dougan and I went for our first date and where we considering for a venue for our wedding and dinner reception until our most recent visit. All I can say is that the simple gesture of showing your guests that they are appreciated did Not happen for our party of 19. We asked why 6 other tables were seated after us and finished their meals prior to us receiving our food, the server first told us because non of the other tables ordered fried chicken (we seen every one of the tables ordered fried chicken), then it was she cant control how long the kitchen takes to prepare food right to anither excuse that other tables are not here area. The food was absolutely delicious, but the care we received from server and manager was defensive and quick to lay blame on kitchen. Sometimes a simple I am sorry, how can help improve your service is all it takes for most to return. We were not looking for discounts or dishes complimentary on the house. We just want to feel appreciated for spending our money with local establishments. If you look on our Facebook pages, you will see how often we travel and promote local business, but I am hurt that The Overlook told my group on Facebook that do not want us to return. I will gladly go somewhere else. I do want to give compliments to the lady at Walters Pub. She demonstrated a fabulous care for people ordering food and drinks on the patio.

Honestly I dont think Ive ever written a review for a restaurant but I feel compelled to here. Im a server and my boyfriend is a server of 7+ years and we both agree that this was a bad experience. The appetizers are overpriced ($10 for spinach dip and $9 for onion rings). And our server was I guess in a very bad mood, didnt smile once or even introduce herself. Slammed trays around, slammed our drinks and plates on the table. Took 10-15 minutes for drink refills. The thing that compelled me to write this review though was my boyfriends steak. He asked for medium rare and at first it came out medium, closer to well done really. He apologized and asked if they could make it medium rare. The next steak came out within 5 minutes and half of it was practically raw (blue-rare) the other half was rare. Our server didnt apologize, probably didnt even bother to check and make sure the steak was cooked correctly. For $21 you would think they would at least cook it properly. I dunno, Ive never really even cared enough about anything to write a review about a restaurant but here we are. The food was lovely other than that steak, a bit overpriced I guess to compensate for that lovely view youre getting. Ok Im done now

We had a group of 10 and decided to sit outside. The place was almost empty, and the weather was awesome. We all ordered drinks & all but one ordered from the "bar menu". The selection was very limited, pizza, hoagies, or chicken bites. One guy wanted a burger and went up to the main restaurant. They wouldnt let him order a burger & bring it back down with our group. I had the chicken bites. They were just like any other chicken nugget/finger/bite at any other restaurant. Our waitress was nice, friendly and funny. The location/facilities/atmosphere/view were excellent, but the limited "outdoor menu" and refusal to let one of our group eat a burger with us left a bad impression. Well likely never go back.

The first time that I ever ate here was in 1976 while we were on a fishing trip. The food was fantastic and the prices while not cheap were very reasonable, so we made it a point to make the trip during the summer to visit again and again. One trip we might go to see the caves in the area. The next to camp or go riding. The people there were wonderful (Ruth, Fern, Jay and others). I moved from the area in 1982. The last time I was there was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. I was really excited to go there (old stomping grounds) with friends that had never been. The food and atmosphere were "truck stop". The service was "OK". It was "under new management". Fortunately they couldnt screw up that BREATHTAKING VIEW.

Made a reservation for Fathers Day this year and we were literally the first ones in the restaurant. It took 20 minutes to get drinks, 90 minutes to get our food, and no explanation whatsoever. We were just allowed to sit there with no apology and no explanation. We had to ask for drink refills and when someone finally made an attempt to explain we were simply told that it was the kitchen, out of their control, and they were "investigating it"!!! When we explained that it would have been nice if someone would have just communicated with us, our waitress just shrugged and walked away. The food was good, but once again, the service ruined our Fathers Day meal.

This is a very nice restaurant in terms of service, view and food! It is located in top of a large Cliff on the side if the Ohio River, with a view of a bend in the river and farms in Kentucky! The cool thing about the layout of the place is that every seat in the house shares the same awesome view! The food is okay, buy but not the reason you visit by any stretch of the imagination. The deserts are imported from a local culinary school and are always fabulous 5 star restaurant quality stuff! Everyone needs to eat here at least once, and maybe once a year as many do who pass Leavenworth Indiana on a road trip!

10 of us. Best thing - the views. They were out of several regular items on the menu that we wanted to order. Very slow to get 1 bar drink. Took an hour to get food. Burgers $10. Mine was so overcooked it was dry, tough, and crunchy, others described as "ok". Scallops (w/shrimp) were cold, flavor fair. Ribs good, grilled chicken sandwich tender, pot pie crust was very good. Ordered sweet potato fries and got regular. Canoli, Oreo cupcakes very good. Katie did a very nice job keeping the orders straight. Would only go back for the view

The cole slaw and chicken tenders are a winner. The chicken livers were a little greasy. And the coconut cream pie is a definite winner. But, do not order the turkey burger. It is a pre-package type patty. The flavor is some type of seasoning that is not palatable. But the biggest reason not to order is the chunks of gristle. In the two bites I did take both had gristle. Disgusting. Thanks goodness our waitress let me get a different dinner. The Overlook can do better on a Turkey Burger. Just ask Big Four Birgers In New Albany.

I love this restaurant. The service is great and the people are friendly, with a southern hospitality I find inviting. The food is very good too, especially the fried chicken. But the real reason I come back is the view of the Ohio River at the bend of the river. I just like to sit on the veranda with my coffe and desert and watch the barges negotiate the turn while the sun sets. Ive never seen another place like it. Its the reason we met there every year during our family reunion, and the reason I want to return.
