I suppose if you have never eaten seafood in other parts of the world or on either coast then you might be impressed with Oceanaire but if you have then you will be disappointed ........... especially when you get the bill. I cant speak for the other guests in my company but I had: Oysters, If you want the best oysters then you have to get there when they open because theyll get eaten up by those that already know to get there early ......... thats what our waiter told us after we had requested a certain type that was not available. Kind of disappointing that it opens at 5:00 and by 7:00 theyve already run out and the place isnt that busy. The ones we had were not bad though just not what we wanted. Charred Octopus ......... 1 arm, maybe 8 bites and laced with marinara sauce. I could go down to the Asian market, get a whole octopus and douse it in some leftover marinara from White Castle. It would taste the same, be more filling and be 1/10 the price. Ahi, seared on either side in a bed of something (maybe shredded daikon) soaked in alleged wasabi sauce. The ahi would have been okay by itself but the attempt to dress it up with the garnish and sauce was insulting as there was no added flavor introduced by either. Sake .......... served in a glass standard for cabernet............ really? The sake was pretty good ............ and I have had some awful sake, but to treat it like wine out of a box was like being in some lowbrow sitcom. Ambience ..... it was just okay. The tables were a bit close together. I felt like the people behind me were almost on top of me. The bathroom was upstairs which got complaints by the ladies in company. Nothing really to wow you. At those prices you wont get the Texas Roadhouse crowd with a herd of rugrats in tow so at least the low ambient noise level wont cause you to shout during conversation. Overall, I guess if I was with a friend who also liked oysters and didnt mind eating at 5:00 I would go there to get an after work snack or as a appetizer before going someplace else for the main course.

We have been to the Indianapolis Oceanaire several times, but also to Oceanaires around the country. My family and I are seafood lovers. The food and drinks were delicious as usual but the service was absolutely terrible. Our waiter was a jerk. Two guests at our table ordered lobsters. We were told that the smallest lobster they carried that night was a 2lber. When the two lobsters arrived one was over two pounds and one was much smaller (about 1.25lbs). When we brought this to the attention of the waiter he was extremely rude and said that we were wrong, got his manager to bring another lobster to compare after we told him not to. Also, he was quite fresh with the youngest woman at the table. To top it off, he asked my mother "Are you trying to get drunk?" after she poured herself the last bit of wine from the bottle shared among five people. We expected a much higher level of professionalism from a waiter at such an expensive restaurant. You can get an equally delicious seafood dish at Mortons or Capitol Grille. Needless to say we will not be back.

We had heard great things about this restaurant from friends so we couldnt wait to try it. It was very pricey, but we dont mind paying if the food is great. Unfortunately, my husband and I were both disappointed in our meals. My husband ordered the scallops wich were cooked appropriately, but very bland. Ive actually prepared scallops tastier than these. I ordered one of the specials which was a swordfish that was entirely dried out and overcooked. I probably should have sent it back, but it was extremely busy and we had limited time. The one positive note is my husband was pleased with the oysters he ordered, but they were very expensive. Service was fine, but not superb and atmosphere was nice. Maybe we hit it at a bad night or ordered the wrong menu items however, for the prices, everything on the menu should taste great. All said, it was very disappointing and we will not be going back:(

This one star is for the ambience. This was a special event for us, but our server was rude and pushy, and made it apparent that we were to do what was easiest for him. I ordered a specific wine and he immediately informed me that it was a terrible wine I should not order and tried to upsell me to a glass that was $5 more. I then paid for a $14 martini that was poorly made and had ice chunks. Again our upon my mentioning our server informed me that they dont use good alcohol unless specifically requested. Besides that, we were constantly fighting for the few bites left of each course from the backservers who were constantly trying to snatch our plates as were still eating. Everything I put in my mouth had absolutely no flavor. Thank God for lemon at least. Paid out the nose for a very disappointing food and service experience. Will not go again.

We recently reserved a room at during the PRI Show on December 9, 2016. Incredible food and even better service. The room we had reserved was not available right away and we had to wait about 15-20 minutes, but the bar is very nice and they picked up a round of drinks for us, it was a VERY busy time for them so this was understandable. Our server, Shane went above and beyond to make certain our experience was exceptional. We had a big limit to hit and a few less people with us than we anticipated, but he kept us privately informed as to what we would need to do to get to our limit and make certain our guests were having a great time. We are without question coming back next year, this is a great restaurant that understands quality food and exceptional service. Great work, you should all be proud of your great restaurant.

Less than expected. Mediocre food at best, tastes like it had been cooked in a microwave. The staff seemed to be well dressed and professional appearing but looks sure can be deceiving. Our waiter had an odor about himself that was very off putting to put it kindly. It was still very early in the evening so I dont suspect his B.O. was a result of hard work, at least not on that night. Perhaps he had a late night at work there the previous evening and coincidently was scheduled to work a double shift immediately following his late night only to wait on my party smelling like a pro wrestler after a bout. Im sure not all of the employees have this same B.O. issue however were going to play it safe and avoid this place like the plague. Dine at your own noses risk!!

Tonight was the first time my wife and I ate there. It was extremely busy due to Final Four weekend, but the staff was courteous, competent, and attentive. Try did a top-notch job of making us feel welcome. Super romantic impress-your-date place. My wife and I both ordered the mahi-mahi served oscar-style in a buttery, crab-meat topped bearnaise sauce; I am not usually a fan of seafood, but was easily one of the best entrees Ive ever had. Excellent drinks (the Oceanaire cocktail complemented the savory elements of the meal nicely) and their clam chowder was a good kickoff. The criticisms in several reviews are totally disconnected with reality based on our experience, unless there have been major changes in personnel since they were written.
