Owned and operated by the same people that run Bakersfield, this southern style fried chicken place feels a lot like its taco-inspired sibling. Called a "Food and Beer Hall," you can often get seated at a long table that gets its empty seats filled in with another party. Its big enough to be spacious and non-intrusive, but an adjustment for most. The Eagle is 100% America, and if you werent sure, the giant bald eagle painted on the wall outside and inside of the building should clue you in. The Eagle offers a great selection of fried chicken alongside a host of southern style, home-cooked, comfort food sides. In addition to the normal french fries, you can get grits, sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping, cornbread, and collard greens. The chicken is spicy, but the honey sauce given to drizzle over the top goes a long way toward toning it down. Alcohol selection is pretty fair, plenty of beers and American-inspired cocktails to accompany your comfort food. The Eagle offers a fresh and delicious taste on southern-homestyle cooking in a great location. The very first restaurant on Mass Ave comes with an ENORMOUS outdoor seating area that is sure to be packed every night during Hoosier summers. Definitely a spot to see and be seen at.

Their food was good, it has a great charm. The service wasnt the best, and even though there was plenty of seats, they wouldnt let us sit down until our whole party was there. So we just had to stand In the doorway awkwardly. I understand doing that when its busy, but it was only half full. The design and feel of the place is great. I love their textures and the warmth that the wood interior brings. The outside patio was being worked on when I was there so I dont know what it would be like without caution tape. Onto the food. It was...good. We didnt have their chicken which they boast about a lot. But we had a Cobb Salad and Mac n cheese. The salad was heavily dressed, and the dressing wasnt balanced. The Mac was beautiful, and the cheeses were great, very creamy and smokey. But there was too much pepper on the dish so that threw everything out of the widow. I did enjoy the place and I would encourage people to try it while exploring the hip area of Mass Ave.

The atmosphere and restaurant was very nice. Service was really good too, but I went for the chicken and was happier with the sides. My friend and I tried the 8 piece dark. Sides were mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, biscuits, cole slaw, and fries. Slaw was good and light. Mashed had horseradish which was okay. The mac and cheese wash rich and delicious. Corn nuts were good if not a little over seasoned. Ive had really fresh high quality chicken a few times. Ive also had some of the cheap bulk shot em up with steroids and chemicals kind and their chicken was definitely more along the cheaper kind. Plenty of chicken slime and nothing like fresh clean halal chicken Ive had. Seasoning was okay but it came out luke warm as did all the sides. The mashed potatoes even had the beginnings of a the film that forms over gravy when sitting. The spicy honey was good. It reminded me of honey mixed with Tabasco. We had dinner at 5:30 pm on a Wednesday.

Where to start??? Party of 10...(if you have more than 4 stay away)... reception area was manned by the largest "ars" you have ever met. After a 30 minute wait, they seat us outside with 3 small children in 65 degree windy weather. I ran down the street and spent 145.00 on sweat shirts. Came back in time for them to move us inside...to a booth where 5 could be seated comfortably... We decided to leave but the waiter asked if we give him one more chance. Alas we found a table that fit us. I was never offered a drink...I ate my entire meal with no water...asked 3x...never arrives... food is spicy (even the mac & cheese). Young kids didnt eat a bite (even honey was spicy)... Last error...we had brought a birthday cake...the lady brought it out, with plates...no silverware. Great location...would be a great place for a nice restaurant??!!!

Visiting downtown Indy and had a group of 8. This place popped up on Google and thought we would try it. Now mind you theres myself (harsh food critic), and 2 culinary graduates with me...one who has their own catering business and the other whos manager at a restaurant in Metro Detroit. We were very pleased and amazed at the quality and fast of the food here. They were all telling me I could not have randomly chosen a better place. The chicken, sides.....I wish one of these were in Detroit area REALLY BAD. Wasnt overly expensive ($16-20 pp) and we had more than enough to eat. The sweet potato mix side was TO DIE FOR. Im from the south and this place was nice dining but with the food quality and taste I felt like I had just sat down in my Great Grandmothers kitchen for a southern meal. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Eagle.

Superbly enjoyed my lunch at this location a colleague took me and a couple others to following a conference we attended this week. As guests to Indianapolis, I must give the service and food best of props to both! Our server did just that; served us. And the food was not anything like Ive had before. The side of grits was exceptional! Loved the touch of pepper in the flavor. Enjoyed the mac n chz and collard greens sides as well. The Chicken BLT was so awesome ...though a bit on the large size for this generally lighter eater. Since we were travelling, taking leftovers to go wasnt an option. I could have saved enough for another lunch had I been a local.

We almost went to the Eagle in Cincinnati a while ago and quickly left rather than wait 3 hours for a seat. Last Friday I went to the Eagle on Mass Ave. in Indianapolis and it was great! We didnt have a problem getting seated and could choose indoor or outdoor dining. The food was fantastic and well-priced. The interior looks very similar to what I briefly saw in Cincinnati. Two of us split a half chicken and shared two (a la carte) sides: the spoon bread and the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese cheese blend was exceptional. The spoon bread was a good corn bread. The fried chicken had a little extra spice kick and was tasty. I look forward to going again.

Party of 7 got right in on a Friday afternoon. They have community seating so you may be sitting right by another party (good if you want to mingle a bit). I got 1/4 chicken white meat and cornbread, both were delicious and very filling. I do not like spicy, so the honey sauce was not for me (it comes on the side). I think the prices are fair for how much food you get. Our waitress was friendly and patient. They also have a large drink menu. The music was loud for casual conversation between a large group, but didnt bother me personally. I would definitely eat here again.

Some of the best fried chicken I have had... Juicy tender chicken with deliciously crispy skin. Their spicey honey is great with chicken. Love the bar here. The cocktails on the menu are very good. My favorite is the eagle iced tea which is similar to a long island. 4/5 stars because I have been underwhelmed by their side dishes on the whole. I think the best is the spoonbread, corn bread served in a cast iron pan. I usually ask for the blackberry preserves to accompany the spoonbread. That said, I usually leave wishing I ate more chicken instead of the sides.
