I typically really enjoy this sushi place which is Korean owned and operated. It is definitely one of if not the best quality sushi in the Indianapolis area and a definite staple for Indianapolis citizens. Both the rolls and straight traditional sashimi dishes are excellent. The sushi rice in the Chirashi is superb as well. The only issue that I recently had and to be careful with is substituting items in the sashimi dish. The waitress was very happy to say it is fine, and she said I just had to pay the difference in list price which amount to a few dimes...but the substitute portions were extremely skinny and small. Other items also came out very small of about a quarter size. On top of that, the waitress thought it was funny when I looked at the portions with such shock (She told the sushi chef in Korean how funny it is) ...it definitely seemed like she should have said they do not do substitutes as opposed to indirectly stating so in unprofessional manner of food sabotage...they did put something on my sashimi dish which caused me severe detox runs all evening and the next morning. My son ate the salmon from my dish and had the same reaction, but my wife did not try any items from my dish, and she was fine. It is a shame because we are regulars there...and it really seemed like they really dont care if I come back or not since they are so busy with too many customers to seat. In summary, they were completely unprofessional and maliciously deceptive...smile to your face, and then poison you while smiling at you.

The sushi is terrible. I agree with areeba. The rice is gummy, the seaweed is chewy, the crab is fake (which is why they list it as "krab" on the menu) and the flavors are very bland. The size of each piece of maki was too big to put in your mouth, especially since the rice was gummy and the seaweed was chewy. Even the avacados were discolored and not fresh and the cucumbers were limp and lifeless. The menus we were given were dirty. We asked for one of our rolls minus the salmon roe and it was brought to us with the salmon roe on it anyway. The atmousphere was dark and dingy with no syle at all and it was very noisy. As if these issues werent enough, the sushi menu is scattered and confusing. The menu is comprised of a huge selection of Japanese dishes and the sushi is just peppered in it. There was a card on the table with some of the sushi rolls listed and a peice of paper was given to us with a few more sushi selections. This is NOT a pleasant dining experience as far a sushi goes. We didnt try any of the other dishes on the menu. We tried to eat our sushi but ended up leaving half of it because it just wasnt worth eating.

Weve been going here since the early 1990s, and it has always been our go-to place or sushi, but its starting to look and act tired. Went there recently after a trip to Hawaii, which included dinner at one of the best sushi places I have ever been to in my life (Yanagi Sushi in Honolulu, and Sakura - by comparison - just not up to scratch. A/C set to freezing, and they seemed to object when I asked them to adjust it. The towels to wash your hands have probably been used since our first visit, and are like cardboard. Then it took 40 minutes for our sushi to arrive, and it came in three batches - waitress by now had no interest in us. And the sushi tasted like the stuff you get in supermarkets - just not fresh. Sad to say, I think they are phoning it in, and I doubt we will be going back.

Walked in with maybe 3 tables open. Place was packed. Got seated in under a minute to a clean table! (This is starting off good) Our waitress while young was attentive. Took our drink and appetizer order, seaweed salad, (very tastey if youve never tried it!) & had it there before i came back from the bathroom. The rolls took a minute, but lost in conversation it didnt matter. Canadian roll, Caterpillar roll, Spicy crunchy tuna roll. All very good & fresh. Very filling as well. I will go back again when Im in town. Thanks Sakura for doing it well.

I am a little shocked to see so many raving reviews about the sushi. I have been to many of the sushi places in Indianapolis and this was the most Americanized one I have ever experienced, so much so that it barely resembled Japanese sushi. The rice was warm and the fish was mushy. The rolls are all full of cream cheese and mayonnaise. It was a truly disappointing meal. Not to mention the sushi took over an hour to get to us after waiting about a half hour for our appetizers.

This is premium-tier sushi. Ive seen many other reviews that mention warm rice and fish as a negative. Legitimate sushi is either cooked or served at room temperature, and rice is cooked fresh and thus warm (this should be obvious). The quality of rice and fish at Sakura is best in Indiana among sushi restaurants, and as good as any sushi restaurant Ive eaten at (including Nobu Matsuhisa in Los Angeles, one of the premiere sushi restaurants in the world).

Not sure what Mr Lamson was talking about. Perhaps hes not been to many Japanese restaurants. I Jane Ben from coast to coast and have enjoyed some good Japanese restaurants and some bad. I have spend time in Japan and enjoy some good and some bad there as well. I would rate this restaurant above average and near a good restaurant. It sounds like Mr Lamson might work for another restaurant... like Applebees.

I’ve had sushi all over the country from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, to Chicago. Some of the places in these cities are up to 25$ per roll (especially Vegas). Sukura quality is just or if not better than most of the places I’ve been outside of Indianapolis. I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but “areeba” has no clue. Favorite rolls: Soft-shell crab, Boston, Crystal. Sashimi: Super-White, Tuna.

Worst service ever, we came in a waited almost 2 hours for our food and they refused to take any money off of our bill for the inconvenience. They even forgot someones order and then blamed us for the mistake and didnt attempt to rectify it until I got visibly upset. The server even yelled at me and Im so disappointed. Ive been coming here for years and Ill never be back!!

Our family just moved here from Atlanta, GA and weve tried every sushi joint in Indy. This one is by far the best one for those who love raw sushi! At busy times there might be a wait but their food is definitely worth the wait! Will they make special accommodations for you? Probably not, but that is because they have a full house every night.

Excellent quality sushi. Best soft shell crab roll Ive had. Friendly staff, unfussy decor. Its all about the fresh and wonderful sashimi and sushi. Tuna nigiri carryout is a family favorite nearly weekly. Use their purchase card system if youre a frequent visitor. Thank you, Sakura for many years of standout fare.

The lunch specials are really good and fairly priced at $8-11. Their Texas roll is phenomenal and tempura is delicious as well. Their salad and miso soup are alright and I got the 4 piece sushi with salmon teriyaki. It was good, a little salty and would probably get shrimp tempura instead next time.
