Overall, while some things here are good, the sushi is pricey. The main reason Im writing this review though is because of the encounter I had with the manager when I was dissatisfied with a dish. It was the "Sushi A" combo dish and after having maybe 1/4 of it, realized that literally EVERY piece of sushi/sashimi on there had wasabi hidden throughout it. So I sent it back and just asked for a single roll instead, because neither the menu nor the waitress told me everything had wasabi on there! It was way too hot and you couldnt even taste the flavor of the sashimi. At the end when I got my check, they wanted me to pay for both the platter and the individual roll I asked for after sending the platter back. When I brought it up, the manager was stubborn and aggressive, and said I needed to pay for it all. I didnt even eat most of the $20 platter though, and I was even willing to pay for that instead of the $7 roll.... After demanding I pay it all, I said ok, you can either take my additional $7 now and never get my business again, OR take that single roll off my ticket, still get paid $20 for a platter I didnt even get to finish, and Ill try you all out again. Nope - he wanted the additional $7 gosh darn it! If he treats customers like this, I can only imagine how he treats his staff. Not to mention, are they that poor off that he needed to choose $7 over giving in to a reasonable customer request?.... Its now no surprise to me that Im reading other reviews mentioning the staffs rudeness. Hope they work on this, but I guess I wont find out, as Im not going back :)

I ate at this restaurant with my coworkers for lunch today. Because our party was so large they seated us in the "party" room in the back of the restaurant. The atmosphere was very nice, the only down side to sitting in there is that you are absolutely REQUIRED to take of your shoes! Even the wait staff slips their shoes off before entering the area. The sushi itself was fresh and of adequate quality. The only complaint I have is with the wait staff. The hostess was annoyed and acted very rudely because our large party didnt all arrive at the same time and would not seat us. When we began to order our waiter would not allow us to order certain things off the menu because "only Asians can handle that dish" and put in an order for something else without giving us a choice. I tried to order an Ahi Tower and was told that that is American fusion and they only serve traditional sushi. I asked if they could make one or something similar to it (they obviously have all the ingredients to make one) and was refused and not given any suggestions. Someone in my party was able to order a Philadelphia roll, though I dont believe that is traditional Japanese sushi! After all that I only got half my order. Overall the sushi is good but pricey but the atmosphere that is created by all of the staff is uncomfortable and offensive. I believe that the staff is very racist. I will not be returning.

We have been very long time customers, and know the owner very well even before he opened his first restaurant. We took a very good friend to dinner last night who had never been to Sushi Sake. We told her that Sushi Sake is the best sushi restaurant in the DFW area. Unfortunately, it was not a very good first impression. The sashimi and sushi were ok, but not as good as typical. The sashimi and sushi presentation was not as well done as usual either. In Japan, you are supposed to eat the sashimi first especially if you are drinking alcohol. If you dont sit at the sushi bar, they usually bring out the sashimi and sushi together, but then you can choose to eat the sashimi first. However, last night they started to bring out the sushi first. That is not good. The owner was not there last night, so it seems that the sushi chefs might have been slacking a bit since they didnt have their boss potentially looking over their shoulders. Most of the servers at sushi sake do their job like robots who barely crack a smile. We know this but still have come for many years. In Japan, service is number one, but not at Sushi Sake. I am concerned that as successful as Sushi Sake has been, they are losing and will continue to lose their good customers.

I was an avid regular until this evening. Having lived in Japan for 13 years, i enjoyed taking my Japanese wife and children to Sushi Sake. We ordered our usual food and, as usual the kids wanted some ketchup with their Karage and rice. I was glabbergasted when informed that i would be charged for ketchup!!! I requested to discuss this with a manager and 15 minutes later an older woman in a kimono approached us. I complained at the situation, highlighting that as regulars we had never heard of paying for ketchup. I was rudely educated that in case I hadnt noticed this wasnt America (?!?!) and that ketchup was discouraged, and the method of discouragement was to force payment. I pointed out that i was a paying customer that expected basic condiments that were available everywhere, and was told, in no uncertain terms, that I was "confused" and that the rules of the house were decided by the resteraunt...hmmmmm..what happened to customer service?!?! Suffice to say i will never return to this establishment... My many years in Japan taught me that customer service and relationship are sacred, these basics are clearly not part of the culture in this business and I would definitely NOT reccommend this place to anyone looking for a taste of Japan.

Food: 4 Decor: 4 Service: 2 My friend and I came here for dinner around 8pm on a Saturday night. They have their own parking lot. The place was packed upon entering, but luckily we only had to wait 5-10 min for a table. 1. Sushi B, 20 Assortment of tuna, yellowtail, salmon, shrimp, and other sashimi (total of 8 pieces). Sashimi was pretty fresh. They put wasabi in between the rice and sashimi, which caught me off guard, and I had to scrape some of it off since it was too strong. 2. Beef asparagus roll, 8 Disappointing. Beef was somewhat dry, and the sauce was too heavy. Would not recommend. 3. Spicy tuna roll, 8 Quite good. Roll wasnt very spicy at all, but it had a tiny kick. 4. Spider roll, 5 Yummy. Crab was very crunchy and fresh. My favorite roll out of all the ones we had. Decor was nice. Service was disappointing and slow. Our server was constantly running around to other tables, and she completely forgot about our asari sakamushi. More than halfway through our meal, she dropped by and asked us if it was okay to cancel that order since they had just run out. We were both pretty full, so we would have cancelled it anyway. Overall, solid sushi, pretty good sashimi, disappointing appetizers, bad service, cute decor.

Ill admit - I am spoiled. Sushi is one of those things I tend to be a purist about and maybe a little bit of a snob. But, thats only because I love it so much and really do see it as an art and will be harsher on places that present themselves as "the real deal". Dont waste any time reading this review if you tend to be more tolerant. So, having moved here from NYC where there was no shortage of world class sushi restaurants and having had the pleasure to eat many times at Sukibayashi Jiro in Tokyo, Hyotei and Kitcho Arashiyama in Kyoto combined with the 26 Zagat rating this place received. I came with moderately high expectations. Do yourself a favor and check those expectations at the door. Nothing about the food was particularly memorable. There service however does fall short. And, while it is silly to compare a place like this to say Arashiyama where your bill will easily be above $350/person - it is not silly to compare it to other places in the region and on that front it falls oh so short and to add insult to injury, it is also more expensive than its competitors - look elsewhere. The only redeeming grace is the setting which is relatively serene.
