We stopped by late (about 8:30) expecting the place to be almost empty, but the outdoor seating area was full and only a couple of tables remained inside. The atmosphere of the cafe is unique, with the walls and ceiling hand painted with natural scenes. The food was extremely good and quite a surprise to find in this little town. Our meal started off with warm rolls and a sampling of butters (5 stars). The pistachio butter was really good. Then we had house salads that were fresh with a variety of greens (5 stars). My daughter had the enchilada which she said was great and my wife had the vegan burger. I tried a bite of it and it was the best vegan burger Ive had, (5 stars). I had the buffalo burger which was very lean almost too dry. The buffalo burger was topped with all the regular items and I added ketchup that appeared homemade and was very good. Overall and okay burger, (4 stars) but not as special as their other menu choices. My wife suggested that next time I go to a restaurant known for their vegan and organic foods I should probably pass on a burger and give them a try. Next time I will, but you really cant go wrong at the Sunrise Cafe.

Very happy with our dining experiance here on Mothers Day. We made reservations ahead and only had a 15 min wait. Servers and staff were all friendly and helpful, offering coffee/beverages while we waited for our table. Once seated we were treated warmly by our server who was very helpful explaining the menu items and daily specials to us. Once we ordered our food was came out quickly and was wonderful, portion sizes are generous but not overwhelming, everything was plated nicely. Food was fresh and tasty. One thing I would suggest is making the booths easier to get in and out of, they were hard for our eldery Grandmother to manage. Overall a wonderful place with friendly knowledgable staff and super tasty food for a decent price, we will come back again and bring our friends.

Excellent place! Only reason why I gave it a 4 star rating and not a 5 star was for the wait. The place is very small with a limited number of tables, so you have to wait if its crowded. The food is made fresh, so it takes a little bit longer to receive your food, but the wait is worth it! Very tasty and very healthy, like I said, the food is made fresh, including the desserts! I highly recommend the Key Lime Pie or Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie. Has a nice feel (little drafty if youre seated next to the near the door), local artwork on the walls, unique lamps, friendly wait staff who always apologize for the wait. Words cannot describe the experience, you just leave with a full tummy and a smile on your face.

Very Happy to eat this delicious dinner. We didnt have reservations and there were no tables available but Suzanne put our names on the list and we left to kill some time (easy to do in Yellow Springs). When we got back there was a booth with a "reserved" sign on it waiting for us. I had the Black Bean, Goat Cheese and Cranberry Ragout with Sweet Potato Pancakes. It was awesome! I see some people complain about not enough salt and I wonder if their arms are broken. I prefer less salt than most people so I like a chef who will let me salt my own dish. Also, dont expect fast food wait times for food this amazing. It is well worth the wait, period.

My favorite breakfast place in the Miami Valley. Try the biscuits and gravy or any of the omelets. I highly recommend Sunrise for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Saturday morning in YS at the farmers market with the Sunrise for breakfast is a favorite spring, summer, & fall ritual. Go for breakfast, you wont be disappointed. Try the Wagyu beef or the vegetable dishes. The gyros are great and so are the huevos rancheros.I also love the daily specials. Brian, the owner/chef, is inspired. The pancakes - kind of a cross between a pancake and a crepe - not a great description - but they are AMAZING. Go, now. Eat local , organic, and delicious.

Unique and rustic little restaurant. I have never been here in the evening. This is been a go to breakfast spot for me. They serve organic and local fare. Prices are moderate. Casual environment. Service and quality varies greatly, I suppose based on local staff. Service has been very slow on occasion. I would never do a planned quick bite here. On the south end of downtown Yellow Springs it is well located if you dont run into one of the odd ball hours they choose to be closed. Call ahead to check the sliding schedule.

Yeah! Everything that Yellow Springs represents can be summed up with a visit to the Sunrise Cafe. The wonderful wall art hits you as you enter this little diner. The place is small, but cozy. The natural, and local focus is readily apparent with signing and in their menu. The staff are friendly and fully immersed in the sourcing and preparation of their menu. We chose two burgers and an omelet. The food was well presented and really good. This is a stop you have to make when youre near Yellow Springs. May 2017

We were told that or wait would be an hour - it was fifteen minutes, so we were quite happy! The food is excellent, the staff is great. I had a veggie melt, which was a pleasant trip back to 70s health food - very fresh homemade whole wheat bread, lots of veggies, two kinds of cheese, grilled, with a side of cucumber salad. My college kids like the pancakes, and the huevos rancheros is delicious also. I think Ive had all of the vegetarian options at one time or another and theyve all been tasty and very fresh.

It was our first time in yellow springs. I was disappointed with the service. People were not very friendly. Not engaging at all. They all seemed in a bad mood or just off. Service with slow and it wasnt that busy. The food was good and prepared nice but the service was poor. I prefer a friendly atmosphere, just made the whole experience awkward. I took my mother here for a surprise day trip and shes worked in the restaurant industry for 40 years it was very disappointing.

The food is fresh, and their offerings are unique, but the restaurant suffers from identy issues. It is too dark for a fresh food joint, very Italian feel but without the heavy Italian food offerings. We had the lunch and it was ok. The potatos were under seasoned, the offerings were ok. The seating is next to the kitchen where you could feel when a plate dropped. The waitress had a temper. Hope they can work out the identy issue of the experience cause the food was good.

The restaurant is definitely on the smaller side. In fact, it can be a bit challenging to fit two people on one side of a booth. Nonetheless, the food is great and super creative. If you havent visited, Restaurant Week is a nice time to try. Always vegetarian friendly and has a decent beer and wine selection. Sometimes the vegetarian entrees are more appealing than non-vegetarian options.

My headscarf must have made me invisible to these people because I was waiting for 5 minutes to get a seat even though it was not busy. Waitress touched all over our straws and put it in our drinks for us. Paid $15 to be hungry. If I wanted to do that I could have gotten oven baked Mac n cheese from the freezer section at walmart, tastes the same, and same portion size too.
