My husband and I went to Ivys a couple of nights ago. After explaining that we were vegetarians they escorted us to a separate room on the left side of the building with doors to exit. It was cold, after all it was March. The heat was not on in the room. Some one came in to explain how to turn the heat on from the existing temp of 65 degrees. The furnace did start. It took a while for the temp in the room to move up. The waitress came in and was gracious and efficient. we both ordered the salmon salad and it was served quickly but during the wait time a man came from inside the restaurant and said I hope you dont mind I am going out to bring in my mother. It took a while but when he left he opened the doors and the small room was immediately cold. The furnace was still working. Finally the man came back with an elderly woman using a wheeled walker. She walked slow and of course through the same doors, making the room cold again. I put on my coat again as the room was cold. When the heat started to warm up a waiter person walked out the doors to tend the fire on the patio. Needless to say, the temp went down. I do believe if you have another situation like that please make the room non passable for staff. It made our dining experience difficult. I also dont know why we were stuck in that room, just for cold experience? I dont think we will be coming back. One experience like that will make us find other arrangements for a meal out.

I frequent fine dining establishments in Chicago and the suburbs and have no problem spending 75-125 on dinner for two. I like to hit places that have the best combination of excellent food, great presentation, good service and warm atmosphere. It is hard to find places worth commenting about when you are as picky as I am but after years of frequenting all the competition in the Wheaton/Glen Ellyn area I have to say that Ivy is by far the best. Ive tried all the others many times and nothing beats Ivy. Ive come to the point where I will rarely waste time at the others if Im out in the western suburbs because Ivy is just that much better. Of course in Chicago I wouldnt be able to say the same but even still Ivy has a charm of its own that is worth making the trip out for. I Recently tried the meatloaf- best Ive ever had, and the presentation was beautiful as always. It was just incredibly delicious. Call ahead and ask for a table by the fireplace. :) You wont be disappointed.

Last night my husband and I went to Ivys for the first time to celebrate our 13th year anniversary. With the exception of the service and wine, it was awful. Our calamari (the handful of pieces we got) was all so oily it was hard to taste anything but garlic. I got the chicken parmesan which tasted like over-cooked piece of chicken from Costco, the pasta was barely warm and the sauce tasted like it came from the jar. My husband got the $33 special entree of scallops- very average and overly chewing. Since it was our special day we gave it one more try with the creme brûlée, my favorite. There are no words. It was not creme brule. It was ice cold and lumpy. Very disappointing. I never post reviews, but felt I had to give heads up on this place. Ill give it one star, simply because I have to.

My friend and I had lunch at the Ivy and we were delighted. This location has faced some challenges, but this restaurant will do well. The salad was fresh and crisp and delicious and the portabello soup was the best I have ever eaten. The restaurant has been redecorated and is beautiful and welcoming, with a classic feel and the fireplace that replaced this huge unpleasant old counter is simply beautiful. The owner/manager stopped by the table to welcome us and he said, "I just hire the best people and the rest just happens". He seems bent on making sure the customer is happy and to offer wonderful food at a reasonable price. He expressed passion about food and wants folks to come back often. WHEATON WINS!

When we walked in the place looked great, clearly an old church that has been repurposed. We did not eat here because when we walked in the first thing we heard from the hostess was "what do you want?" After a slight hesitation I said "table for two please." After she stared at the two of us for 30 seconds finally I asked how long the wait would be. She said 30 minutes and we decided to go next door to Gia Mia where we knew the service would be excellent. As someone who has worked in the food industry, I understand being stressed, but the hostess is the first person people meet at a restaurant and it can make or break the experience.

We enjoyed a terrific bridal shower with a luncheon at Ivy this afternoon. The entire experience was just wonderful: Jason answered all planning questions kindly and with great insight as well as humor; the food was fantastic and earned rave reviews from all the ladies; Alex and Mark were our servers who were so sweet and quite capable; the owner greeted us at the door and helped us unload the centerpieces and favors for the party; two young men helped load up the gifts at the end of the event...Im sure Ive forgotten other kindnesses and compliments I should mention! Thank you for great service, great food, a great day!

The server recommended a dish that was one of the featured specials at $38, while this is way above what I would normally spend for an entree, nothing else sounded good. It was not worth it, even If it would have been $20. It should have been mouthwatering delicious for that kind of money, and I wouldnt even say it was delicious. Mediocre at best. I felt like a sucker with a server just trying to get her check average up. On the other hand, if you like a somewhat offbeat historic ambience, this used to be a church. It still has the stained glass windows and theyve added a beautiful huge fireplace where the altar was.

While the ambience cannot be beat, the food was incredibly salty. Also, we had made our reservations through a site leaving instructions as it was my husbands birthday. Apparently, they dont read instructions which was very disappointing to say the least. And, even though they received the reservations, they never entered us as having shown up. We were contacted asking why we had not shown up. Id go back for drinks due to the atmosphere. But probably not for the food. If Im paying that much, I want service to be attentive and the food to be less salty.

Ivys is an amazing destination located in the heart of downtown Wheaton. The service is so friendly and personal and the food and wine selections are increadible! There is a parking garage out back if you are driving and it is only two blocks from the Metra station if you want to take an adventure to the suburbs from Chicago. We keep going back again and again. The owner Dick is so fun and Jason is incredible as well. If Julie is working in the bar you will experience the perfect trifecta of service!
