Been coming here for years ... even when they used to have another location in Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg area. If youre expecting to see Long John Silver here, Id get a fish "sammich" from a local fast food place instead - this is a seafood haven where not everything is breaded/fried. The bar pours a "good drink," which according to my parents, means the ratio of booze to mixer is heavily on the liquor end. Its not cheap but youre not stuffed in here and crammed together like Bob Chinns AND yo have to wait two plus hours! Any of the hosts that greet you will make yourfarm.thefirst feel like an old friend; oftentimes they will remember you the next time you visit. The first thing you may notice, after kindly waving to the lionfish in the lobby, is their hospitality and service. Even the salad boat driving bussers have a smile on their faces.

The food is good BUT-I must say this about the Owner. We have been coming there for over 30 years to celebrate our weddinmg anniversary. (Weve gone there other times as well but always for sure on our anniversary) The owner, a Phil Jackson look-alike, has NEVER, NEVER, EVEN ONCE bought us a complimentary drink as a sign of appreciation. Having been a restaurant owner myself, when I saw a regular I would always buy him/them a drink to say, thanks,. Lets face it. The cost of two drinks to the owner is about $1.00 or less. Cmon, what does it take ................... Now you may say why do we come back, etc., well, its become a tradition for us ,etc. but it really hurts..................bad business. Altho , we will see what happens as we go back one more time in about a week. If this guy doesnt wake up - adios.

Just came back from company holiday lunch at Dover Straits in Mundelein. I will say that this location was recommended by a coworker who went here numerous times but something terrible has changed. Wait staff was very bad with attitude. We had to ask for more bread and still the waiter didnt bring it. Food was passable but waiter didnt even know what items were in until he comes back 10 minutes later and said they dont have it. On a holiday lunch 2 days before Christmas and this place was dead. Please dont go here!

I had a great experience here. I went here with my family on a 4:00 reservation for dinner. The prices were kinda up-there but if youre there before 6:00pm youre eligible for the early bird specials which in my opinion are a great value. For a $13.50 entree I got soup, salad, the main course of some bass, and ice cream. Because it was my birthday they also gave me some cheesecake. The food was delicious and very filling. The waiter was prompt and I liked his sense of humor. Cool building too. Massive parking lot.

Chicago is known for great restaurants and if you are looking for one of Chicagos hidden treasures you should visit Dover Straits. Although seafood is the specialty, I have enjoyed everything from chicken to New York Strip. They do a wonderful job selecting fresh seafood specials - the recommendations are always a winner. The food is exceptional and the service is very professional. I have used the restaurant for family dinners, anniversary celebrations and client lunches.

April 3, 2009 We have been going to Dover Straits for twenty years. It is true, they seem to have gone through a difficult period about a year ago, but they are back to their wonder food and excellent service. We have had corporate parties there, family functions and special occasion dinners. In twenty years we have been disappointed twice. The seafood is excellent and the salad cart that they serve at the table is varied and fresh. Try the anchovie dressing!

Had diner there recently & will think twice about going back. They always have the same boring bread, warm sour dough & that is it. No dark bread. TIME TO CHANGE THE BREAD The food is ok but to PAY $26.00 for Ribs are you kidding!! Then the vegetables you get broccoli & cauliflower One Bite and its gone. PORTION sizes are getting smaller & smaller & & paying MORE. Will NOT go there again. :(

Snooty and obnoxious service staff. By the looks of it, they judge you the moment you walk in, and decide that you must not be able to afford their bill, and thereafter, treat you like dumpster divers. Of course, they have no problem swiping your card,, while not even bringing water to the table! They completely ruined my Valentines Day. Never going back, and I stay in the neighborhood!

The place is really good and looks really nice, both inside and out. The food is excellent, but I was suprised to see only a few people in there at dinner time on a Thursday night. It was almost completely empty. I expected better and faster service than I received, given it was so empty. The salad is great, but they drenched ours in dressing - get your dressing on the side.

I have been a customer for over 20 yrs & had only 1 not so great meal. It is packed on weekends &holidays because everyone knows they will get a great meal. There is live music on the weekends & a dance floor. If U don t dance, watching is fun. The staff is great, knows me by name & what I drink. Seafood is excellent. Definitely a hidden treasure.

We have been here many times over the past 20 years and have never been disappointed! The food, service and atmosphere are truly one of a kind. The owners are always there, make you feel like family and they really care about your satisfaction. Every dish weve tried we have loved and their fresh bread, salad boat and calamari are to die for!!

Our favorite seafood place for forty years with an outstanding staff, amazing meals & great drinks! If youre ANYWHERE in Chicago-land (Lake County, Illinois), Dover Straits is terrific & you must experience this establishment! Dating, anniversaries, parties or just a wonderful dining / drinking experience. . . do NOT pass this by!!!

Great service. The hosts were very personable. I felt that their greeting was truly welcoming and heartfelt. Great atmosphere. The design of the restaurant felt like you were eating at a seaside port or inside a submarine. Older crowd buy that didnt matter. Go for the great food stay for the live music!

I had an awesome waiter- Frank. Really welcoming and great recommendations for wine and food. Kinda pricey but I did get 1.5lbs of Lobster for $25! So I cant really complain! Salad was awesome and you have to try the house made creamy garlic dressing! Not too thick and flavored perfectly!

Atmosphere great for both a couple or a group, do not have to yell over background,music. Food excellent, service very good. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Enjoy it every visit, one of my favorite upscale restraunts in area.

this place is amazing. The owner always greet you at the entrance, The bartender Marcial is always giving the best service. Definitely the place to have a wonderful food. Live music in the weekends. Highly recommended.
