Food at this restaurant is good. However, one of the servers there, an older Japanese lady with very heavy make-up, made the experience there terrible! I had been there several times before and never had an extreme experience as the last one, but this one server, not sure if shes the owner, made the visit so unpleasant I will not go back to this place again. The old Japanese lady spoke in a very rude manner. We saw only shrimp tempura in Tempura Udon and asked if it should come with other vegetable tempura as well. She angrily responded, " No! Thats Korean style! This is Japanese style!" First of all, I did not understand why she was rude in her response. Second, what does Korean and Japanese style have to do with answering whether or not vegetable tempura should be included in Tempura Udon? I had suspected that she may be discriminating due to my nationality, but thought perhaps shes just having a bad day or shes a grumpy person and thats how she speaks. Shortly after, a Japanese family was seated next to our table, and the servers demeanor changed like a night and day! She smiled at them, checked on them, and conversed with them asking where they are from and so forth. The server spoke rudely to us with a straight face, never checked on us and we had to wait and ask for her in order to get the check. Obviously, she is only one person and cannot represent her people, however, she left such a negative impression with her poor, discriminatory demeanor, it really doesnt help the image of her restaurant nor her people.

JOHN REVIEW
Went to Sakura last night for Sashimi based on reviews on this site and proximity to my hotel. I sat in the middle of the Sushi Bar which coincidently is directly in front of the open-face broiler used to cook meats, etc.. The heat omitting from the broiler and stove to the left was surprising warm so I moved to the end of the Sushi Bar and ordered my usual sashimi combination of Sake (Salmon), Hamachi (Yellowtail) and Tobiko and Asahi beer. The service was polite, quick and the beer was ice cold, and I received my sashimi quite quickly thereafter. Due to the extreme heat of the broiler and stoves directly behind the counter the plate was warm, the fish somewhat warm (no shaved ice on the plate) and that combination is never good for raw fish. I cannot complain about the taste (no "fishy" taste or smell) however slightly warm raw fish I do not really care for. The ambience of this restaurant leave much to be desired especially with the noise, smells and heat of what is essentially the kitchen open to the entire counter. I will say the cooked meals I saw going out looked and smelled amazing -- which seemed to be what most people were ordering. In summary if decent prices, good service, somewhat dated interior but really good looking cooked meals of noodles, meats, etc. (basically more of a Chinese/Korean menu) this place probably is great. You want pure sashimi or sushis with significant portions of raw fish then I would go elsewhere. By the way I am still looking for the "elsewhere".

I lived in Yokosuka, Japan for 6 years and I have to say that this is definitely by far one of the very best authentic Japanese restaurants (food wise) that I have eaten at in the US. The food is outstanding (oishi) !!! The cooks are older Japanese men and they know how to cook for sure and they are very kind. By the way my name is Glenn and I am signing in under my sons email account of whom loves to draw "anime" Japanese animated cartoon characters. I graduated from YOHI Nile C. Kinnick High School located on Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan back in 1980.

As with all sushi bars, sit at the counter for the best experience. All of the food is super authentic and really good. Not just the sushi, but the hot menu items like yakisoba, udon, various izakaya style appetizers, and some deep cut Japanese specialties like oyakodon and tsukemono plates. This place is a hidden gem and good place to go if you crave Japanese food or want real Edomae style sushi that goes beyond all the goofy Americanized rolls covered in mayo with a contrived name slapped on it.

We have been going to Sakura since the 90s and it is always exceptional. My friends and I get what we call the perfect trinity, which is: one spicy california roll one spicy tuna roll one mexican roll (which seems to be a Sakura exclusive, it is a shrimp tempura with assorted other items including jalapeno, very unique taste and happens to be my wifes all time favorite)

Best nabeyaki udon in Chicago! I have been coming here for years and love to get the hot noodle soups. Their spicy tuna is also the best you will. The staff are incredibly friendly. I do love this restaurant. I only wish they were closer to my home.

$70 with tip for 6 rolls and 3 Cokes. The rolls were pretty good..some fell apart... but places like Chef Soon in Lisle have much better rolls with fresher fish for that price level. service was so so for being not at all busy.

The food was good but the service was extremely slow. My coworkers and I arrived right when they opened for lunch. Long story short, we reluctantly took an hour and fifteen minute lunch break....

Very good small sushi bar. Nice offerings on the regular dinner menu as well. If they are offering the tempura battered soft shell crab order it. You wont be disappointed.

Just a normal Japanese restaurant, been there for a few times over a few years. If you been there, great! Not yet, no need to regret. Solid 3 stars!

By far the best sushi in the suburbs. Sit at the bar and talk with the chefs.
