I am very disappointed with the service my family received at this restaurant on this morning. I have an allergy to eggs and thus asked to substitute for a cup of grits which I have always done several times before. The waitress advised me that this could not be done as grits were more expensive. The menu actually reflects grits were cheaper which I pointed out. The waitress then said she would check with the Manager and returned and said the manager would do a subtitution for a dollar more. This wasnt about money , but rather principal. We offered to pay for our coffee (for table of six adults) but told we could leave. I then asked to speak with the manager but told that there was not one working today. So either the waitress Iied again, or the manager refused to see a customer(either of which speaks poorly of this establishment ). I so looked forward to family from out of state visiting this restaurant, but deeply regret that my family experienced this poor and unprofessional level of service. We are a minority family and were treated like second class citizens. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT AND WOULD NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Our family has been here a few times. The menu is large and the breakfast section is quite comprehensive. Prices are cheap and they always have specials when you walk in and service is quick. At first (Jan 2016), our experiences were all positive. But the last few times we have went have gotten progressively worse and we have had a lot more misses than hits. At our last visit, they used some kind of cinnamon roll in the french onion soup for two people at our table. They put the soup aside and said it was awful. When I picked up my sandwich, there was a 1" or so very thick straight black hair under it. I didnt mention it because I did not want to ruin everyones appetite at our table so i brushed it aside and ate some of the other half. But the sandwich was really bad like the dressing on it had gone bad. Somebody else at the table took one bite of the their sandwich and didnt finish it either on the account of the taste. Weve had some good food here int the past but in the last 3 months or so, its been more bad than good. We all agreed to take this place off our list.

Went here in October 2016. The inside of the restaurant is pretty much what you would expect. The food I received was terrible and everything was over-priced. Ordered chicken tortilla soup which consisted of out-of-the-can chicken broth, celery, onion, and soggy uncooked tortillas. I also ordered a bacon cheeseburger. The burger patty was a frozen cheap patty full of translucent grizzle pieces. I really expected a real meat burger since it was nearly $10 and the business had tons of promotion when walking in about the owner of this place being some kind of chef; at least something better than what I would get at McDs for half the price. Will not return.

The food is very good, although I always get the same thing to eat - the apple cheese omelette. It sounds kind of strange, but once youre eating it you love every bite! Other people in my group have ordered the broasted chicken and say its delicious! At mealtime, there can be a bit of a wait but you can call ahead to put your name on the list. I highly recommend that! The flow of customers is usually constant; they seem to have plenty of regulars. I dont live in Illinois, but whenever Im here, I will take the time to come eat at River View Diner! I highly recommend this place!

New building is nice, but I ate here twice now and about month ago I got a coffee mug with lipstick still on it and brushed it off as wasnt cleaned good enough in washer, i tried it again today and went to pick up a napkin off floor by my table and seen under the table was a hat and alot of crumbs and garbage. Kinda disappointed that whoever cleans every night isnt taking tables out to vaccum. Prices are average compared to other restaurants but needs to focus on being cleaner.

Pretty wow experience. It is located right next to the Fox River (yet you dont really have breathtaking river views). Inside has a very cozy, almost cabin feel. Tons of seating and you dont feel super cramped. Tons of food options, breakfast lunch and dinner. Its all here. No joke the best omlette I have ever had. Everyone else I was with had more lunch type foods and raved about their meals. If you are on the fence about this place, go...Its worth it.

This was my first time eating here. Food was OK. I have never eaten in a restaurant where fries were not included. My sandwich was $8.50 and another $1.50 for fries..... are you kidding??? I was not told by my waitress that fries were extra. I was told that soup came with my sandwich, so I ordered the French onion soup and then was charged .60 for the cheese on top of my soup. What a Rip Off!!!!? I will steer anyone I know away from visiting this place

Out on our anniversary, my husband and I decided to try this resturaunt. I Ordered the prime rib which ended up being a huge chunk of fat and very little meat, swimming in mystery juice. This was accompanied by over cooked green beans and mutilated yellow squash. My husband ordered a skillet and the hash browns tasted freezer burned and when he lifted the bottom it was sopping wet. Sad why to spend an anniversary. :(

There are too many better choices in the area to visit this place twice. Last time I gave this place a try I had the Prime rib special and it was barely edible and the vegetables that came as a side were so overcooked mushy they were difficult to identify. If they thought it was OK to serve that to me what good would it be to complain. Not a place for people that actually enjoy food.

This restaurant looks great. Its very loud though, you can hear just about everything in the kitchen. The walls are barren, a little decoration would be nice. Service was reasonable. My omelette was delicious but the people I was eating with said their eggs were incredibly runny for being ordered over medium. Coffee tastes a little burnt and its just a bit over priced.

The riverview diner is amazing Ive been going even before they remodeled the place and even then the food was great and their pancakes were lovely, the wait was acceptable and their buffet is mouth watering! The only thing that I could think of as a downside is the prime rib other than that I totally recommend this to everyone I know :) Oh yeah and try the pies!!

This is one of my favorite places to dine when Im never sure what I want to eat. The menu is extensive and any choice Ive made has been consistently delicious. The pies they have here are to die for. Banana creme pie is out of this world. The service is always excellent, respectful and engaging. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Impressive for a diner; best in the area. Good food and portion for the price. They did a great job renovating; Nice view over the river, and a nice fireplace. My wife and I love this place. We usually go for breakfast, but their dinners are good too, and come with pie. Get the French onion soup if you do, its perfect
