Just returned from another great lunch at this restaurant. Its something of a drive for us, but worth it. Others in my party had basic, but very fresh, flavorful salads, turkey panini sandwiches, and spanikopita. They were all delighted with their food. I had a perfect cheeseburger - something thats become sadly unusual - juicy, fresh tasting, and cooked as I ordered. You dont often get tender enough beef with the correct fat content cooked just right - when it happens, like the ones served here, it makes for a really fine lunch. The Valley Lodge is a chalet style dining room, and apparently pretty much unchanged from the way it looked when it was built in 1969. It seems like so many restaurants open up, serve great food for a couple of months, then slack off and disappoint returning diners for too many more months before they close. The Valley Lodge has been reliably excellent for decades. Their specialty is supposed to be their fish, (goes with the lodge decor) but neither my wife nor myself are much for fish and havent had it there, and we cant say. If its as good (or better) than the other dishes, it must be great.

Went there for lunch with an old college friend this past week. There arent too many non-fast food places around Willow/Waukegan and we were glad we found this place. My rueben was a standard rueben but the dressing came on the side instead of slathered inside like I prefer. The sweet potato fries were clutch. My friend had a classic burger on their gluten-free bread, so her burger fell apart fast. She said her steamed broccoli (just a moderate sized head of broccoli, not trimmed down or broken apart) was very bland. It looked like it was literally just steamed, no seasoning to be seen. Overall a decent experience, the food was standard American fare with some Greek influences (saganaki was on the menu), the booths comfortable and just private enough. Service was great and the table bread & whipped butter was delicious.

This is a neighborhood, tavern-style, family restaurant with a bar area and a dining room. The "lower" section is more discretely separated from the bar and features a fireplace in the winter. The atmosphere is great: it has the feel of a small supper club in Northern Wisconsin. The food is not "fine dining", but the staples (white fish, burgers, chicken, etc.) are good and some of the greek dishes shine. Service is consistently friendly and good - many of the staff have been there for years. We are regulars.

admittedly we were in a rush but with no one there, it took twenty minutes to get a salad. when we got home to eat, realized one salad was missing blue cheese. also the house vinaigrette had no vinegar in it. nice people tho, just unfortunate that we had to wait so long for salad.

Friendly atmosphere. Neighborhood like feel, "where everyone knows your name and their always glad you came..." Great salads, burgers and daily specials. Solid food, never a complaint. Best pour on the north shore for drinks.

I call in the evening on a Tuesday to speak with a manager and the guy on the phone replies to mean in a rude manner saying, "You realize you called the busiest day?! What!" The guy sounded very unprofessional.

Very good food and reasonably priced. Seems to cater more to an older crowd but nothing wrong with that. Never had a bad experience here.
