My family and I were really excited to eat here because we loves cool little diners. The waitress was awesome and the food was fantastic. Why Im giving this review 2 stars is because of the guy running the register. He was a complete jerk and Im putting it nicely. Whats crazy is that its his birthday and everyone in the diner sang Im happy birthday, so you think he would be in a good mood. First, my brother and sister in laws food and mine were on the same check. I asked if I could pay for just mine and he snapped, saying I should have asked the waitress to split it and that it was too late. His register was the old kind where you had to punch in each individual number, so that didnt make sense. My sister in law said it was fine and gave him her car to pay for it all, and he snapped again and said, with a huge attitude," you dont have cash?! Were not taking your card. Its cash only so get it out of the atm". Thank you for ruining what was supposed to be an enjoyable lunch.

I stopped by for a quick bite, as I was new to downtown Crystal Lake and had some business in the area. Cafe Olympic may well be my go-to place for the future! As soon as I entered, I was greeted by both of the young women on waiting duty. I must have come in during a lull, so besides myself there was only one other patron, who was known by name. The mood was informal and positive, and as stated by another review the atmosphere was like a small town diner. For a little less than $8 I was able to get rice and chicken soup, a reuben sandwich, a pickle and a small cup of cole slaw. The food was quick and tasty, and the portion was realistic (unlike the gluttonous monstrosities served by other restaurants) and satisfying (I even took the pickle and cole slaw home). As I was getting ready to leave, another patron came in, and she too was known by name. Id recommend this place, and pleasantly look forward to when I might return.

Located in downtown Crystal Lake, this place is simply great for the price. Its got that small-town diner feel that you either love or hate. Personally, I love it. Ive eaten here probably 50 times in the past 10 years or so. Since they went smoke-free, I eat there more often and sometimes bring the family. The food tastes great, the selection is wide and everything is reasonably priced. The service is most always timely but never rushed. The owner takes care of the place.

The food here is reliable, well-prepared diner style cooking. Portions are enormous and most everything is made to order. Waitstaff are so very pleasant, and they make an effort to get to know you. Family-friendly. We take the grandkids in here and they are always welcomed. Staff speak to the kids like theyre people. I never mind running up to Olympic for a quick home cooked meal with no frills and no problems...ever. And their split pea soup? Oh, Mama, sooooo good.

I had always loved this diner until the owner belittled me for not giving his waitress a larger gratuity. I had thought 15 percent would have been sufficient because we never received our refills and the waitress wasnt very happy when we said our son didnt feel well and would just share with my wife. Although the diner is dated and generally unprofessional, we had always loved the place. Sadly we wont be returning.

The food is great! Being relatively new in America, Ive been wanting to visit moms and pops eating places. Ive been coming back to this place repeatedly because food is addictive! I love their burgers which are huge and half off on weekdays when ordered with a drink! If youre not into pop soda, just order a coffee with it. Great place, great service, great food, in a great city!

Rude people, sub-par food (even for diner food), and $2.05 for a small black coffee? Thats absurd. I thought it was priced wrong, so I went up to correct it, and he actually charged me more for some mistake the waitress made in calculation. Good businesses dont make their customers pay for their mistakes. Needless to say, I wont be returning.

food was ok. onions were greasy. They dont take debit cards or credit cards, so I felt like a fool having to write a check , while holding up the line. I tried to use the atm machine , but for some reason i could remember my pin. place needs to move with the times....

Great local diner. Friendly staff and good food. Somewhat dated decor. Wish they muted the televisions, as they have music on at the same time and it can be somewhat loud. Tough to have a good conversation with the news almost always blaring in the background.

Ive had a great experience both times Ive eater here. The bisquits and gravy was as good as my grandmas. I had the Cajun skillet today and it was pretty damn good. They also get your food out crazy fast. Its a wonderful little diner.

Fantastically friendly greasy - spoon staple in downtown crystal lake. Doesnt take cards, but does have an atm on site. Dont eat here on a diet, but enjoy a great, filling breakfast

My favorite diner to go to that still manages to have that old school feel, food is always good and fast, and surprisingly there arent 500 items on the menu.

Best biscuits and gravy around! Really cheap, and great service. Big portions too! Cash only and not that many tables though so you may have to wait

An old fashioned downtown diner with good food and service. They do accept credit cards now too.
