The food was just OK until halfway into my second steak taco I felt something in my mouth with a metal taste. Turns out there was a part of a BOLT in my taco (the thick round piece that screws onto a bolt actually). It was absolutely disgusting to say the least. Im not the type to complain at restaurants but this was ridiculous. When I showed my server, he didnt really seem to think it was a big deal but asked if I wanted something else. No, I had lost my appetite and was completely disgusted. The manager didnt even take the tacos off my bill. He gave 20% off the tacos, not even the whole bill, because "you still ate it". Like I said, halfway into my second taco... How did I know I would find a chunk of metal in my taco? I did not touch anything after that and it completely made me sick. I understand accidents happen but this is unacceptable. No one even apologized!!! Not the server or the manager! The least the manager couldve done was take it off the bill. But I didnt care, I wasnt looking for a free meal I just couldnt believe what I found in my taco. I will not go back and I would eat my food with caution if you do decide to go.

When you first walk in it pretty dark enven in the day time and the atmosphere is pretty bleak. I work near this restaurant and been there plenty of times one big gripe and it never seems to fail is the overcharging i always get my usual plates depending what im in the mood and i follow their prices but when i get up to the counter it was 2$ or 3$ more than i expected i point out the menu and it always the same excuse ( O thats and old menu ) how many menus do you have floating out there man. Also if your on your break dont expect your food to be ready when you come to pick it up, it will be ready when they get to it. Also, although im mexican, i feel unless your the crowd he wants to attract your service will be poor, also the food is hit or miss sometimes its good and sometimes its obviously old (People know the difference between fresh and old). I recomended qnd taken freinds in the past but like i said unless your the kind of crowd he wants to attract dont expect to be treated pleasant.

I used to really like this place up until tonight when we received the worst treatment Ive ever experienced by the owner/manager. We were a party of 7 and subsequently had two additional parties join us later to be a party of 10. When the bill came, we wanted to use 3 credit cards, and Jose refused saying he would not split by more than 2 cards. Ive never experienced this....and definitely not by any of the other Randolph row restaurants. When we challenged him, he said he would call the cops because we were refusing to pay our bill. By the way, our bill was over $300 including the 20% service charge (which is a huge win-fall for this place on a weeknight). Im still shocked at how rude the owner/manager was to his clientele. UNACCEPTABLE. No way Jose. This frequent customer will never go back to your mediocre food and watered down margaritas.

My culinary school friends and I escape from the madness that is our school to Perez whenever we complete an exam. We drink their awesome margaritas (they make them strong because they know us) and eat a meal that is 4 days worth of food. There are never any left-overs - it would be a sin to reheat this goodness. The burritos and chimichangas must be as big as those 10 pound rolls of ground beef that you find at Costco. The tortas are about 8 inches in diameter and they purposely give you a ton of tortillas to eat the the meat that is falling out of the taco. This place serves some of the best Horchata on this side of town; and they also serve Mexican Coke (Coca-Cola)! The ambience is not that great to most people - its your typical plastic table covers and a proud assortment of tequila kind of place. My favorite.

I was surprised by the quality of the tacos. I can honestly say they are some of the best ive had in chicago. I think the reason for that is they are served with ample portions of strongly seasoned meat. Most tacos i eat these days, even ones at notable trendy restaurants such as big starr et al, have a much higher shell to meat ratio, obscuring the flavor of the filling. I have to say, until today, i had almost forgotten what a taco was suposed to taste like. Plus.... 3 filled me up (and i have a very healthy appetite) and cost just $10. If you are looking for someplace trendy with a refined waitstaff and decor, this is not your place. If you want to learn how tacos should be made, i recommend at least giving it a try.

Any place with vinyl-covered tablecloths is a winner in my book. Excellent margaritas, and way too much food. Good spicy salsa and chips that theyre all too happy to keep coming. Both the sampler plates are enough to share, and offer the newbie a good variety of foods to try. Service is really great. The ambiance is definitely "walk-in freezer" though sitting right by the cash register was surprisingly warm, as though there was an oven directly opposite the wall.

Gave this West Loop Mexican spot a try after reading a positive review on LTH. I had machacado con huevo, a great traditional Mexican breakfast dish consisting of scrambled eggs mixed with chewey shredded beef, jalapenos and other delicious things. I really like the version served at Nuevo Leon in Pilsen, but I think this one tops it - both in texture and in portion size. (Note: the Perez version is $2 more.) Ill definitely be back to try the chilaquiles.

A holdout against the swift and unstoppable flattening of all character in this neighborhood, Perez serves up delicious, mostly authentic Mexican food, micheladas, and margaritas at unbelievable prices. Almost more unbelievable is that this hidden gem seems to be overlooked in favor of the pricier, trendier restaurants in the area, in spite of how amazing their food is; Ive never had to wait for a table here.

Cheap, authentic, no-frills Mexican restaurant. I think it does well on the otherwise expensive, upscale, full-of-frills Randolph street. Sometimes you just want a quick and easy bite to eat, and Perez is a great place for this! Additionally the margaritas are STRONG. I had two and had to go home and go to bed. The food didnt blow me away, but it was authentic and exactly what Id expect. Will return!

Good bang for your buck - a burrito from here really puts Chipotle to shame (portions wise). The margaritas they whip up back there are surprisingly delicious and pretty generous in their alcohol servings. If the food has one thing going for it is that its authentic! Decor is "meh" at best- but who cares when youre eating mexican food (probably some of the best food out there!)

The food here is really good. Tacos, menudo, and lots of other dishes. I really like the smoky sauce they make. They raised prices not to long ago but didnt upgrade the interior space and the service there is generally inconsistent. The wait staff often gets small parts of orders wrong and sometimes seem to take a while getting something you ask for after an order is put in.
