I waited a few months to try Oberweis, and Im upset that I waited so long! Oberweis is a bit intimidating upon walking it with its harsh fluorescent lights and wide variety of chilled dairy items in the coolers to your right, but upon walking up to the counter and taking in their "fountain menu" many delicious options present themselves to you. For instance, they have their take on the "DQ blizzard" with many mix-in options, as well as sundaes and the traditional cone or scoop of ice cream. The fiance and I stuck to just a scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone, both of which were towering HUGE scoops which we happily complained about. The staff was young but prompt when we visited on a Thursday night. I was surprised it wasnt more busy given that it was in the middle of summer.

I got birthday cake ice cream and it was fairly average. The atmosphere of this location is very cute, though. You can play chess on the tables and the ice cream is served in cute parfait glasses. The management, however, was rude. They were understaffed, which is fine. I understand it happens, and it seems all the other customers were patient and waiting. The manager came out and was very sassy in telling the customers to not yell at her employees. Nobody was yelling or upset so I found her behavior off-putting. Regardless, the experience is still pleasant, but there are likely better places to get ice cream.

Im not originally from Chicago or any of the surrounding suburbs, but when I discovered Oberweis while visiting a friend in Aurora, I havent been to any other ice cream place since. The fresh, natural taste from the cream that they use and perfect combination of sugars and flavors that dont overwhelm is really nice. I was sad to find out that they werent really around the city and as soon as I found out they opened up locations in the city, I had to make a point to visit and the Sheffield location is just as good as all the rest!

Overall: Great ice cream and creations, Oberweis is great for kids and adults alike. The good: Great tasting ice cream and other treats. Not the best, but pretty dang good. Plenty of options to choose from. There are cases to browse and take stuff home (milk, cakes, pints, etc.). Chess and board games to play with. The bad: The times Ive been, the place is always messy and not as clean as it should be. The staff has been, while efficient, unfriendly. Atmosphere: 710 Service: 7/10 Food: 9/10

Its so great to find locally-made, real ice cream in a city, amidst the frozen yogurt and gelato craze. They have some unique flavors of hard ice cream, but my favorite is the soft serve mixed with cookie dough. The cookie dough pieces are soft and flavorful, and they use a heavy hand when adding them, which is often not the case at other places. Friendly staff, too!

Great ice cream, but I would agree with the posts below about the staff. We went on a non-crowded night and it took too long for our ice cream to arrive. Many of the staff members were chatting in a group rather than helping. I would say they need better management to teach the young workers.

I wandered in here with a few college friends after dinner. It wasnt that busy but the servers were super friendly and helpful. They have lots of board games behind the register. We ended up playong Scrabble for a few hours- what a pleasant surprise! So much fun, will definitely be back.

The ice cream is fantastic, as with any Oberweis, however we waited over 30 minutes for one ice cream. It was not overly full, there were quite a few people inside waiting though. I have waited much less in much more crowded ice cream shoppes. If you dont mind waiting definitely go.

Good desserts. Sundaes and even single ice cream servings are good size. Chocolate malt was good and malty. Not as well cleaned or maintained dining area as we would have liked during busier hours - overflowing trash cans are never pleasant.

Good locally-made ice cream. Nothing ground-breaking, but simple ice cream the way it should be. On the more expensive side (2 scoops ~$7), but its nice to support smaller establishments who care about their product.

Amazing ice cream! Service was relatively fast. Cashier was dull though, didnt seem like he wanted to be there. Wouldnt normally affect me except I could hear his reluctance to be there from where I was sitting.

The peanut butter chocolate is the best thing to ever happen to mankind, i come to this one the most because theyre open later than any other oberweis 11pm and 12am on fri/sat they also have the best lemonade!

Great prices for even better ice cream leave this chain in competition for the best ice cream in the area. The service is very nice, and the space has ample seating. They keep board games behind the counter!

Great ice cream. Pretty average ice cream parlor. They have chess sets. My fiance and I spent a few hours just playing chess and having ice cream without being bothered. It was nice.
