Weve been to Magnolia Bakery back when they were first opened and their cake back then was good. We had guests from out of town on Friday (6/30/2017) and I decided to visit this place again, and we went. Oh man. It was a disastrous experience. First, the cashier (a black lady taller than other employees there) who didnt have a name batch(of course) tried to cheat us twice. We were paying CASH and eating in. First, we went to buy some of their macaroons and paid cash, while giving our change back she purposefully slipped a $1 out of it, and gave us .26 cents back. I thought she didnt notice it and didnt say anything since I was still going to leave a tip. Then, we decided to try some of their cakes. We had 5 piece of their Classic Velvet cakes and they were so stale, icing cream was so bad. To make it worse, the same black lady cashier tried to cheat us on the change again. This time she slipped a dollar out the change again, and when I said it is missing a dollar - she lied and told that she returned the full change, at that point I got a bit irritated and showed the "slipped" dollar bill next to the registrar and only then she gave us back the full change. I didnt want to call the police or make a big fuss out of this because, first, we had guests with us, and second, it was Friday and there were quite few people waiting in line. BEWARE OF THIS IF YOU ARE PAYING CASH THERE. But me personally never ever going back to that place again. I will try to spread this out to all of my friends, co-workers, neighbors and whoever I can. Thank you for reading

It was the most odd one... I was in there to but an over priced cake or two. I told the counter person that my phone died and that I left it at my desk charging... I ask politely to use their phone so I could verify what to buy. She said she needed to check with the manager. A few minutes go by and she comes back stating they can do that. I told her she just lost her sale. I then asked to speak to the manager to let her know my discontent with the response. She stated thats the way it is and didnt care about losing a sale or now even a potential repeat customer... I could see the phone less than 6 feet away, and you know they take phone orders. So this is how the treat their customers... I will never purchase anything from this establishment... I will tell everyone I know about what happened and ask them never to show there... For a business that relies on customers, i would have fired that manager on the spot for not allowing a customer to make a local 3 minute call... Thanks to Corner Bakery... They have great stuff and are customer oriented...

OH MY. I cannot say enough about this, and I’ve only had one thing (twice) there: the chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. SO GOOD. Run, don’t walk, and if you go to the Grand Central location, note that it’s located on the dining concourse kind of at the back. That is the one downside: I’d looked it up on Google Maps and it “looked like” (as do many things on G!Maps) it was street level … I spent 20 minutes looking for it and asking directions before I finally found it. Learn from this and go. The frosting isn’t the grocery-store bakery frosting; it’s rich, chocolaty goodness. The cake is perfect and moist. And go earlier in the day, because they will sell out of flavors. (They’re apparently known for their banana-pudding cupcake; unfortunately, I don’t like banana-flavored things that aren’t bananas, so didn’t go for it.)

So I havent had a cupcake from Magnolia in awhile- had some blackhawks logos on it and looked good ( ordered 6 for the family). but tasted so stale! I happen to be downtown and said let me try one again and maybe this time it will be good like Ive heard the NY location is! Decided on the red velvet cupcake since I didnt try that one... and boy I was disappointed again! It looked real good dont get me wrong... the frosting was not sweet like some can be overly sweet which was good, now biting into the cake... this is not a good sign! The cake was dry and tasted stale... I ended up having to throw it out. I guess everyone goes cause the name but dont go unless you want some stale cake!!!!!

Best coffee and bakery for a sweet stop downtown on State st. I try to support unique coffee shops instead of following my lazy auto-pilot to Starbucks and when I do, I always treat myself to a mocha coffee and a cupcakes. The pastries are always fresh and the staff is nice. My only compliant is sometimes the line can get a little long and the multiple points of ordering seem to hamper more than help. This place seems to get a lot of buzz but even so, I always seem to be able to find a table. The tiled floor and small space can make this place a little bit noisy for conversations but comparable to Starbucks.

Bought two small and very overpriced cupcakes this morning. I got the red velvet and coconut cupcakes. Disappointing doesnt begin to cover it. Both cupcakes were very small, almost looked smashed, had very little flavor, and were extremely dry. The frosting on the coconut cupcake had so much sugar in it that the frosting was crunchy and the coconut on top tasted old and stale. I had gotten a lemon poppy seed muffin in the past and it oil just oozed out of the thing. I have also tried the slices of pound cake - dry as dust. Im done. I wont waste another minute or dollar on this store.

Two words sum up what Magnolia Bakerys all about: Banana Pudding. It is simply incredible. The smooth creamy texture of the pudding, coupled with a truly rich banana taste, with bits of sponge cake in the mix is simply utter desert delight. There are a few tables, maybe around 10, where you can sit and immediately enjoy your purchase. The place does get fairly crowded around tea time, and when that happens, it gets pretty noisy as well. So if you can, go on a weekday afternoon to truly have an enjoyable experience - bring a book, some music and waste your afternoon away.

The staff by the door welcomed My friend and me, but unfortunately, they were the only 2 nice people in the bakery. There wasnt enough variety of cupcakes. I wanted to buy a few shirts but the cashier was so rude and rushing me that I could only buy 1, I asked the supervisor a question about the shirts and she was also rude. When I opened my cupcake box I found out that they didnt give me my Lollapalooza cupcake, they just gave me a plain smashed vanilla cupcake. Im very disappointed because Ive visit and I love Magnolia Bakery in other cities.

#30daychallenge #Chicago Okay, so I did the cupcake tour in May and the little bakery in Macys was the best of the 4 we tried then. BUT, I rush in after a tough week at SMW (wallet stolen, sleep deprived, etc) and she CLOSED! But fear not, Magnolia is right across State street and the cinnamon sugar cupcake MELTED IN MY MOUTH! It was also my girls bday (twins, 11) so I brought home some super cute ones for them specially wrapped to endure Metra! A little nook to eat and wifi for your much needed sugar break during work. Yummy!!!
