From The Desk of Thomas: Some of the greatest discoveries have been made by accident...so it was this last Sunday in Chicago. One of the favorite breakfast eaterys to Chicagoans is The Original Pancake House...so it was on this Sunday morning that the lovely sextant of my life and I were headed. As we approached we saw a large line and we looked at each other and decided we were not going to wait. Then we had our discovery...maybe not so to locals but for travelers to Chicago that dont know the lay of the land..this is for you. The Luxbar had beautiful outside tables that were available. It was unbelievable that this was the case since behind us was a line with people waiting to eat at the above said restaurant. Everything about this experience was pure class. The staff was dressed impeccably, the white tablecloths and cloth black napkins were designed to give a feeling of a Rivieran experience. But this aside...my lady ordered the veggie egg benedict and I ordered the breakfast burrito. The price for the two were beyond affordable... one wouldnt expect this for Chicago. I looked at my beautiful companions plate and I have never seen a presentation as delectable looking as her fare. The white of the egg was so light it looked like the wing of an angel. I was informed that the fresh tomatoes and spinach tasted as if it was just plucked out of the garden in back. The seasoning was exclaimed to dance on the palate. I had to take a picture to give credence to this post. My burrito, one would think by the name and usual experience would be heavy and lay in the stomach like...well, a burrito. But my burrito was like eating spiced air....the softness of the egg and the freshness of the vegetables was something that I have never before enjoyed. In fact I was so raptured by the whole experience I forgot to take a picture. The bottom line is...The Lux Bar was more than worthy of sharing with my readers. I dont just give out glowing reviews...just honest ones... this is a MUST try place. Please see my post for an image of the heavenly veggie benedict. Read more (57 lines)

We have always stopped in Luxbar on our girls trips to Chicago but after this last expereince I think we will be finding a new place. We had a reservation and checked in 30 minutes early - then when we came back at our reservation time the host acted like he had never seen us before and told us it would be a short wait. 30 minutes later we were finally seated. Ater we were seated we found out they had taken some of our facorite items off the menu. After ordering the waitress notified us they had already run out of the Saturday night prime rib special. The manager actually offered and ran over to Gibsons across the street to get some for us but then charged us a higher price than what was on the menu! So sad that we had such a disappointing expereince at one of our facorite places.

Stopped in for dinner, had the prime rib, brussel sprouts and some drinks. Prime rib was excellent and brussel sprouts- some of the best Ive ever had and Im not typically too fond of them but these were absolutely delicious. We had a sundae for dessert. Im not much for sweets but couldnt resist having a bit of it was very good. Incredible drink selection with a little of everything including rare beer and liquors. Service was absolutely outstanding, our waitress Susie was extremely attentive and had some great recommendations, and management checked in on us several times to make sure we were enjoying everything. Everyone was very friendly and not once did we have a need that wasnt met. Overall wonderful experience will absolutely be back.

I liked this place a lot; we watched the NFC Championship here and the place had a great atmosphere. They have a decent menu for a bar and grill with great service. My only criticism would be they dont have free refills on pop (soda) which at 2.50 you would expect at a restaurant. Also they give great portions and the macaroni is awesome even though it was not on the menu. They have plenty of flat screen televisions and a ton of space for eating, but they mostly serve finger food and dont have a ton of entrees, so getting the sides is important if you wanna eat to get full. In conclusion I definitely will eat here again; especially to watch a game with friends.

The food was decent. But Chicago has lots of decent food- may as well go somewhere with better service. My husband took me to brunch at LuxBar for my birthday. My crab bisque was great, but a refill on my beer would have made it even better. Unfortunately our server disappeared, so I had to go to the bar to get my own refill. While I was gone, the busboy took my bisque. Happy birthday to me! Will never be back. Thank goodness it was just me- we had planned to take out of town guests. I would have been so embarrassed!

So glad my boyfriend discovered this place on his phone even though I have walked right by it many times. Alas, I dismissed it as another Gold Coast/Rush Street trendy restaurant with better hype than food and never thought to try it. The late night dining menu even includes a delicious salad that let me get my greens in so I did not have to settle for greasy, calorie bombs that characterize most late night bar menus. And the cocktails truly hit the mark; I have tried at least 3 and all taste heavenly.

Always a solid spot with many options on the menu. My staples are usually the grilled calamari (has a great kick), the truffle mac and cheese, and the buffalo chicken salad. The drink options are fantastic, and they also make a great Moscow Mule. The desserts are ginormous. Perfect for sharing with a huge table. The place gets packed around the bar area at happy hour and on weekends, but the bartenders are quick and attentive. Love coming here for lunch in the summer when you can sit outside.

Always good. Always busy. This is a sign of a successful spot. Situated in the Viagra Triangle, this is the one place that has a little less cougars than the rest. Great outdoor seating & bar area seating as well. Ive always been to private events upstairs & those were very cool events. What to order: (Soft) Pretzel Sticks & Pub Cheese, Filet Slider & the Chopped California Salad Tip: Get the slider & salad or soup combo if you cant decide on sandwich or salad/soup. Its a good deal & filling.

Once I found out the mushroom burger was a burger + mushroom and not a veggie option, that left me with the Scottish Salmon dinner special which wasnt great (especially at $35). I am curious what the LuxLager beer they feature from Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is because it tasted just like a regular Leinenkugels. Good location; pretty staff, but not impressed by the food or really event atmosphere - they cram a lot of folks in there.

Owned by Gibsons kitty corner. Clean, comfortable, attractive. Light pours. Food just ok (we had the salmon, buccatini, fried chicken). You go here if you are in the Gold Coast and are hungry but dont want to pay ridiculous prices. Go to Dublins for burgers, chicken, salads, drinks, across the way on State. You may have to wait, but the food is waaaaay better for the same price point.
