I went to the U of C and Jimmys basically saw me grow up — from a prospie who snuck in to a true college graduate. The bartenders will befriend you in an instant...not to mention the joy of the $10 pitchers... Its also the best place to go during the day to study or write: It was fairly empty with only a few patrons, most of whom you didnt know (unlike the library) so you could work in peace.

Place is a joke, if you are one of the bartenders buddies I guess the service would be okay but they seem to want to chat with their friends instead of working. The food is awful and I am sure the hamburgers are frozen patties they microwave. All in all a horrible spot, maybe things were different when Jimmy owned the place but now dont waste your time or money.

Met up with a friend here a very cool and laid back atmosphere great place to socialize because the music isnt too loud where you can not hear the other people talking. The drinks are made perfectly and priced great the only downfall is they are a Cash Only establishment which was very surprising now.... but they did have an ATM available in the bar.

One of the few bars in nightlife-deprived Hyde Park. Youll find professors, students, and South Siders discussing about anything, from the nimble to the complex. And, of course, theres beer. The building has gone through a facelift, so the experience is definitely better than used to be. It even appears in tourist guidebooks.

Cash only, which can be inconvenient. Drinks way over priced, for the subpar ambiance. It is perfect for philosophical UofC student looking to unwind, or take a date out, but the prices are taking advantage of the fact that Hyde park has very little else to offer in the war of night life.

Went with my sister but we are not college students, got a lot of stares and the bartender all but ignored us,was rude and seemed annoyed we were there! It felt racial ..Maybe black people are only tolorated in that bar when they seem like harmless students. Will never go there again.

Just okay. Reasonably priced drinks. Cash only. Limited selection of craft beers, though the couple they have are fine. Wouldnt recommend against it, but I also wouldnt be eager to return (though I have over the years because theres very few alternatives in Hyde Park).

Late hours and inexpensive menu items make this a nice dive bar to visit frequently. Very popular with the local college crowd but non students wouldnt feel uncomfortable. Not too many late night spots in the area which makes Woodlawn Tap a good choice.

Jimmys is okay. They have great beer and for a decent price, but the low lighting is my worst nightmare. People are pretty nice behind the bar. I would recommend going here if youre really really craving some cold beer and need to get out of the house.

What would I do without Jimmys! Im there a few times a week, and you cant really beat a cheap pitcher and burger from this place. The service isnt with a smile, and half the chairs are broken but it has a certain dingy charm.

Whiskey gingerales are $3.50. What more do you need in life? I dont know why youd be there if youre not a UChicago affiliate, but if you are, you can count on finding people you know there any day of the week.

Jimmys is the quintessential college bar--a cozy hangout in the winter months, a great crew of regulars, and affordable drinks. University of Chicago would not be the same without it. A Hyde Park necessity!

Dive bar close to campus with cheap beers. I think they do exactly what they are trying to be really well. Some cool beers to be had and multiple rooms to this bar to explore.

Good neighborhood bar in Hyde Park that never seems to end! There are three rooms in the place, with two (and a half?) bars. Good beer, good food, and both are cheap.

Yes to the grill cheese and fries! Sometimes they have veggie burgers. Beer is great. Drawback is that its cash only, but they do have am ATM on site.
