Scene: It was Tuesday night at 11 PM. My mom and sister were visiting me and we had all just attended a story slam not too far away. To our excitement, my “sandbox sistah” and I were chosen as judges of the stories during The Moth, and used all of our energy and brain power to score semi-mediocre and not-so-clean stories (sadly, The Moth in Chicago doesn’t compare to its counterpart in New York). We were starving and decided to reward ourselves with some good eats, and luckily, DMK was still open. Before my sister’s arrival, we had compiled a Google Doc of all the places we had wanted to try. However, DMK was a spontaneous destination, and it did not disappoint. We were immediately seated, and our waitress was amazingly nice. She recommended her favorite burgers and gave us a short blurb about each one - #4 and #6 were her favorites, but she continued to go on and on about DMK’s veggie burger #12. Veggie burger? At a place known for its grass-fed beef? I was perplexed. We went ahead and ordered the #6 (sans the chorizo) with guac, Sonoma Jack cheese, chipotle aioli, cilantro, and onions and the #12 veggie burger with aged cheddar, eggplant, tomato, and pesto mayo. Both were delicious!! The patty is thin, but definitely high quality. Although I’m a huge fan of thick, juicy patties, these DMK patties were still pretty good, but I still would have preferred a thicker patty. However, what really makes the burger good is the combination of toppings/ingredients. Everything went together so well and the flavors were delicious. Do not underestimate this veggie burger! Even my carnivore sister couldn’t get enough of it. We also ordered a side of mac & cheese #1 and parmesan & truffle cream fries. The mac & cheese was AMAZING!! Great combination of aged cheddar and parmesan and a great crust on top that adds some texture. It’s definitely really rich, but if you’re a mac & cheese fan, don’t pass this up. BUT THAT TRUFFLE CREAM. OMG. When it came out, my traditional mom didn’t know what was happening. White ketchup? Is this like when Heinz tried to make green ketchup? But once my mom tried it, she was basically eating it plain. It was that good. All in all, DMK provided some great late night noms. I’ll definitely be back.

My mother and i get together over lunch weekly or so to catch up and last week we settled on DMK. I have been dying to try their burgers and since they allow any burger to be turkey, bison, crispy portobello or veggie there was no reason to figure out whether Mom was a vegetarian or meat lover this week. (that is a whole other story) It was around noon on a Wed and most of the tables in back were taken. We were greeted with a hello and a smile immediately upon arrival and promptly seated. My mother is not a big drinker but she does enjoy an occasional beer or wine so i suggested she try a beer and she got excited. She was thinking Miller light until she saw all the choices and that was not there.and then decided she wanted to ask for samples(yes i was horrified) Our waiter who truly was perfect and so friendly and knowledgeable , he did not even flinch and came back with a sample she picked -she didnt like it and so he asked her a few questions and brought back 2 more (i picked one and he did the other) and she liked his choice and it was spot on. We both got the #8 burger (mom was a meat eater this week) and Parmesan and truffle cream fries for the table. First bite in resulted in both of us talking with our mouths full saying how good the burger was. The bun is hands down the best burger bun i have ever eaten. The fries were amazing as well and the right size for 2 people sharing. What an excellent lunch! One of the best burgers, friendly and knowledgeable service and affordable

They do not spilt checks and will only use up to four cards per party. The general manager, Leslie, had to come over to "help us work it out" and she only made things more confusing and when I questioned a charge (charged for three rather than two) for a beer that only my boyfriend and I were drinking she said "well unlike you, my server has not been drinking so the charge will not be removed from the check" *cue eye roll from her* the check was correct as one of our friends had orderd the same beer we were drinking at one point but the way Leslie handled that situation (correct or not about the charge) was inappropriate and frankly she should be embarrassed for talking to a paying customer that way, especially to someone who only had two beers for the two hours we were there. The server barely checked in with us and the food came out sporadically and was delicious but way over priced. The music was way too loud and the resturants lighting leaves you to figure out your own way to read your menu. Overall our experience was negative and we will not be returning, even though Leslie gave two members of our group free 2 draft beer cards on her for the next time we show up she thanked them for being so nice when in reality they were the most annoyed in the whole group. Get it together dmk.

First time here, walking in you notice that its dark in here. It was crowded, but we were seated immediately. We were seated immediately, though I had assumed that we would have to wait. What we did have to wait for was service. We didnt know who our server was going to be, but once she came to the table, we noticed that she had walked by several times without even looking our way. We ordered drinks, I had the inhale exhale. I forgot what they had. Mine was okay. My guest commented that he thought that they didnt put much love in their cocktail making. He said the drink tasted like they were just going through the motions. Okay. I ordered the number 8, he had the number 1. The burgers were good, cooked the way we ordered them and it didnt take very long. The bread was light and airy, not to filling like a lot of buns can be. They appeared to be baked in house, but dont quote me on that. Besides waiting for the initial contact with the server, the service was good. It was quite loud there, so this is not a place to take a date, even if she just wants a burger, its too hard to talk. All in all it was an enjoyable time. I will definitely eat here again, but maybe Ill just have a beer with my burger.

I picked up delivery for from here. This staff member who decided to help me with the order told me to drive my car around back to receive the delivery. I explained that I was delivering on foot three times and asked if I could please cut through the kitchen. The individual declined me twice, ignoring my stating that I dont have my familys car tonight; then had the audacity to follow me outdoors and around the corner after asking him to leave me alone before insisting he stop following me after Id already left the restaurant. After taking the restaurants preferred route a block awayy and down an slippery and icy alleyway in 6°F weather, the same individual greeted me at the back door and insisted that following a delivery person out of the place he works was in my best interest. After repeating one final time what my intended business being there was, I finally got the order. Thankfully, I wasnt harassed or followed by any staff outside the business door when leaving the second time. I dont anticipate stepping foot in this establishment anytime soon. Please note that my review is based entirely on the interaction I had while trying to do my job.
