I have been going to Calos for years and this is the first time I have spent $200 on dinner and my experience has be anything but exceptional. I have never been to an establishment where the staff sides with staff when the server makes a mistake. So what happened, I took my family to Calos for a going away dinner tonight 4:30pm dinner reservations. My sister could not join us for dinner, so I ordered a rib dinner to go. I preordered the ribs with the server at the same time we all ordered dinner. After dinner the server brought the check to me and walked away with my Visa card, she was gone a few minutes then came back and asked to see my ID. Not sure why she asked for my ID when she never carded me for my beer. After I paid the bill, we all left the restaurant and walked to the parking lot. I put the food in the back of my car when I realized the server never gave us the rib dinner. I went back to the restaurant and told the hostess about my missing rib dinner and she called the server over to ask about the ribs. I asked the server what happened to the rib order and she said, "well, I didnt charge you for ribs". I said that charging me for the ribs was not the issue. I ordered ribs and she failed to give me the order. I also tipped this server 20+ % and for what? Another, employee standing at the front desk sided with the server making excuses for why the server forgot the to-go order. She scolded me like a child and said, "everyone makes mistakes; I should not put the server down" I have a right to be upset with my order and I never put the server down. The server dropped the ball during a time restaurant was not slammed. The other staff member at the front desk wouldnt stop with the scolding. She went on and on about how she was going to give me the ribs for free; I should get over it. I never asked for anything for free. I decided not to say anything else to this staff member. I expect good service from Calo since this is considered a better quality eating establishment. Tonight, I have learned that the customer experience at Calos comes last and their employees come first. I wont stop going to Calos because I love the food, but I wont forget the experience.

After visiting Calo more than a handful of times, it is a restaurant that I will always think of first to go when in Chicago near Clark. No matter how many people I go with – 5 or just 2- Calo has proven more than satisfactory in its customer service, quality of food and overall experience. Typically we do Calamari Fritti for starters, and I have tried the majority of the pasta plates (and of course sampling from my family’s plates) and my favorites are: Ravioli Milanese, Wild mushroom ravioli, ziti vodka and my ABSOLUTE favorite, the ravioli di Aragosti. The last time we went was NYE without reservations and were last minute about dinner. Without making a call, we walked in and asked for a table for 2 and was immediately seated. I had Riesling once there and being a bit picky in my wine taste, was very content with its level of sweetness. The salads and bread are always good and don’t taste as though they’ve been sitting in a fridge ready for consumption for a week or two. What really brings me back are the beautiful women waitresses who are so kind, helpful and respectful. I am always conversing with them and they truly know how to provide excellent customer experience. We go at least once every two months, so I would recommend anyone in the Chicaogland area to make a stop here one evening!

I highly recommend ordering the thin crust pizza here. I love the pepperoni pizza because of the grease on top. The grease tells me that the cheese & pepperoni are real and it tastes better. The thin crust is always perfectly cooked. This place has a great old world Italian feel to it. I enjoyed seeing everyone having dinner at the bar on a weeknight at 9pm. The feel inside the restaurant is so warm and it feels like home. Patrons come here because they feel like family. One thing I loved was that the bartender pours your martini right in front of you. Its all about the show. There is also plenty of TVs in the bar to watch the big game. The Cubs game was on and everyones eyes were glued to the tv. The calamari is another good choice along with the meat and cheese platter. I could eat the mortadella here all day long. The bruschetta is another great choice too. They have a free parking lot across the street which has about 22 spots. This is great because the neighborhood doesnt have much free parking and I hate paying LAZ. So if youre looking for some great old school Italian than this is the place to visit.

After searching for some quality Italian food, I was told about Calo from a friend of mine. I happened to mention it to another friend and they planned a birthday dinner here for me. Calo didnt disappoint at all. The food was amazing. Even the bread that was served prior to the meal was delicious. I ordered the Linguini Frutti which was a pasta bowl that had shrimp, clams, calamari, scallops and mussels and it was delicious. And the portion sizes are HUGE. You can practically feed two people from this dish alone. But the seafood was cooked perfectly. I also was surprised with a slice of Tiramisu which was delicious. I just didnt have any room to eat it with the previous dish and bread. Its a real family, intimate type of setting. But they do have a bar on the other side of the restaurant if you are just looking for some drinks and food. Everyone from the hostesses to the wait staff was extremely friendly. Will definitely bring a paper bag with me next time to fill up to take home.

Ive eaten at the restaurant a few times and the food there has always been EXCELLENT... Pasta, chx, beef, seafood.. Large portions, cooked to perfection! Some of the freshest/well cooked calamari Ive ever had! Ive never tasted one dish served at the restaurant that wasnt sublime!! My mouth waters just thinking of those meals! As for delivery... For one who was raised in Chicago and hv lived here most of my life.. there are a few Chicago food staples that I am a CONNOISSEUR of.. Pizza and ribs being two of them.. Calos thin crust pizza is one of the BEST in Chicago (and thats a TRUE ringing endorsement!) The stuffed pizza, on the other hand, was a terrible disappointment. Way too much dough, not enough stuffing. And the ribs, while cooked to perfection, had one of the WORST sauces Ive ever encountered. I will never order either again. With the exception of those two caveats, the fare here is not to be missed. I anxiously look forward to eating at the restaurant in the near future!

Good food, good wines, kid friendly. We had a nice meal meal here Saturday night. We had reservations for a party of 7 + a high chair. They first tried to sit us at a table that was barely suitable for 6 people so we spoke up and they moved us to another room with a much bigger table. The wine list was pretty decent and the table enjoyed a bottle of Pinot Noir which was delightful. One thing I cant stop thinking about is the fresh warm focaccia bread that came in the bread basket. I had the shrimp risotto with asparagus in a creamy garlic sauce which was a huge portion probably enough for 2 people. It was so rich and creamy and exactly what I had a taste for. My husband always gets the veal parmigiana. It too is a huge portion but also very tasty. We have also ordered take out from here and have never had a problem.
