I have thrown three dinner parties at Rosebud, using their room upstairs for about 15 guests, many from out of country, Japan, England, Germany. The food and service are great and there is more to Rosebud. This is, for my money, the quintessential red-sauce joint, high quality Italian comfort food, served in generous portions by gracious and entertaining staff. I especially like the seafood and vegetable dishes, but some of my guests enjoyed the steaks. Their highly professional staff go out of their way to make everybody feel welcomed and happy. Its like coming home to a place much nicer than where I grew up. So...I am having the party again, at Rosebuds on Taylor, to make sure my guests feel appreciated. Where did I find out about a place like this? From my friend in Chicago whos in the food business.

I ordered veal. Did not receive veal. My food wasnt even warm. Waitress dismissed any and all complaints by insisting that we were whiners. $8 for a house salad that they didnt even bother to cut! Why even offer it? $28 for veal covered in a layer of cheese thicker than the protein cut! They forgot to add sugar in their tomato sauce so it was acrid. If I had. Even by myself I wouldnt have even ordered or I wouldnt have paid. I had a gift card and paid for my meal AND part of my guests meal because they didnt deserve to pay full price for what we received at this establishment. Of all the Italian food in Chicago I highly recommend that this is one you skip

I had lunch at the Rosebud on June 8, 2009. From previous reviews I was expecting a good time. However, the food nor the service was very good. The clams in my linguine were gritty. Sandy seafood usually means someone in the kitchen is cutting corners. The service left something to be desired as well. Very rarely do I go to restaurants which serve fountain drinks out of bottles and charge the same price as one would normally pay for a drink with refills. The $4.25 house salad turned into a $7.20 salad with the addition of a few tablespoons of Gorgonzola cheese. Glad I went for lunch and not for dinner. I will be voting with my feet on this one.

Service makes a difference. Very old school charm. We had a reservation and had to wait at the bar. After 30 minutes when we were ready to say something when the MaitreD came over and asked us if he could buy us a drink and got us each a glass of wine. 15 minutes later we were seated. We had a nice dinner and then at the end our waiter showed up with a large piece of chocolate cake for dessert. We said we didnt order it and he said he did. Service cant prevent mistakes but the key is how you recover from them. Rosebud did a lovely job.

The King of Italian Restaurants in Chicago, Alex Dana just does Italian food better than the rest. Most restaurants have tried to copy what the Rosebud Restaurants have done, but have tried and failed. Rosebud on Taylor street prepares the finest Italian food in Chicago. When dining at The Rosebud I always go with my favorite entree the “Brick” Chicken, a Whole Boneless Chicken with crispy potatoes, broccolini, Oreganato Sauce and Grilled Lemon. Many try to copy it, but this is the best brick chicken in the world.

Wonderful place to take family and friends. This place has wonderful food and the service is top notch. They have valet parking and street parking available. The upstairs sitting area is very calm environment and the staff goes the extra mile to make you feel at home. Be prepared to spend a little money but I assure the time and food is worth it. This place feels upscale with the white table cloths but has a conformable feel to the dining experience. If havent tried Rosebud now is a good time.

Great birthday dinner. Service was fantastic, atmosphere was romantic, food was very good. I did not care for how much garlic was used in the cavatelli alla rosebud, but it may just be my preference. I was seated comfortably with a party of three, but then the table behind each side of ours was seated as well and it was very tight. The seating was, in fact, so tight that we scooted the table in towards my side to allow the other side to leave, then pushed the table away from us to get out.

Wife and I ate here other day, food was fantastic, and fast. Our server was fun to talk to and I m starting to hear more about the place after the fact hah. Turns out the rat pack used to eat there. In any event, we spent a good $, but the portions would generous and cooked superbly. I would recommend to anybody if they enjoy going to places like Gibsons or Ditkas or any other place where the prices are comparable. Good food and atmosphere.

I had an exceptional dinner at the Rosebud last week. Gerard, our waiter, was on his game and Frank, the Maître de, was a consummate professional. The food was excellent (oysters Rockefeller were perfect), the beverages well made and quick and we felt like royalty. The next night we went back for a drink a the bar and Frank arranged a surprise dessert for my birthday and ran to buy a redbull for my friend. We felt special and will be back.

Food is fine. Unfortunately, the business practices at Rosebud are poor. I was charged for a $60 bottle of wine that I did not order. The manager on duty acknowledged a mistake when I called the following afternoon but never credited my account. Rosebud then refused to credit my account when the credit card company followed up on my complaint. I ended up paying for something I never got. Lesson learned, check your bills before signing.

The service was amazing. The food was amazing - calamari was tender and to serve that many people platters of calamari, platters of peppers and sausages and bursettia just appetizers were well done. There were choices of 5 entrees and the presentatios were great. Would love to go again!! Have no idea of cost??!! Comfortable atmostphere and wait service was very accomadating to individuals needs. Several guests had food issues.

Excellent food. Came here for the holidays. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas and felt like a million bucks, and then the final tab was so reasonable they especially given the insane amount that we ordered over those four hours that I thought they must have forgotten to add several items to our check. If you want to have a special meal without breaking the bank, Id go back here in a heartbeat.

I always feel like my Rose begins to Bud when I spend some time at Rosebud. Sometimes I like to imagine myself camping outside of Rosebud the night before I go there to eat in an effort to heighten my experience the following day. As a consequence, I recommend Rosebud to anyone who likes to eat food. Grandmas gravy is the best gravy. I recommend that you get the gravy and bathe in it for extended periods of time.

We love this Place ! Once a year we drive from Eastern Mi to see a show in Chicago and we never miss the chance to have an old world dinner here. The food is the best and the service is amazing ! After 23 years one might think we should try somewhere else We have and many are also good, but there is nothing comparable to The Rosebud on Rush Sincere;y yours, John Higgins
