I recently had a food sensitivity test done and have to eliminate a TON of things out of my diet for 90 days including wheat, dairy, yeast, eggs - the list goes on... I came to big bowl and they were beyond accommodating with my situation. They gave me a menu and told me what could be made catered to my food allergies. Most restaurants scoff at my list and tell me I can get __x__ and thats it. When the food comes its boring, bland and I usually get charged extra for less food. Say waaa? Big Bowl was the complete opposite. I got a tasty lunch full of flavor and catered to my allergies. Multiple times I had someone coming out checking, is this ok for you? is that ingredient ok (yeast is a tricky one)? I felt very confident that my meal wasnt going to make me sick, and it didnt! Our waiter was fabulous and the entire staff was super friendly. Usually I dread going to eat out due to my limited diet right now but they made it a pleasure! I highly recommend this place to anyone that has special diet needs!

Big bowl serves up "pan-Asian cuisine" in a very franchise kind of way. As an Asian that LOVES Asian food, I would classify Big Bowl as Asian-like food cooked in a pan (American pan-Asian). The flavor profile of ingredients used are similar to what you might find in your very American grocers ethnic aisle. If limited to these ingredients, they manage to cook up some decent re-creations of authentic Asian food. Would any dish here lead me believe that I were in Chinatown or some authentic Asian restaurant? Absolutely not. Does that mean I hate this place? Absolutely not. The waitstaff is always very friendly and super accommodating to requests to add / remove ingredients from orders. They also have some pretty tasty cocktails / drinks. If in the area and I need a spot for a casual lunch that will fill my belly, I can count on Big Bowl.

So the wife and I spent 2 day and 2 nights in Chicago, IL for the first time. Mission; to obtain our Tourist L Visa for our upcoming vacation to China. So after a 6 hour drive and walking about 1 1/2 miles we stumbled upon a Chinese and Thai restaurant called the “Big Bowl”. It was the BEST! and the price was bad either! go on over to the photos section and see our Trip photos. BUt the highlight of my meal was the Dumplings.... A must try if you ever eat there. We stayed at the Chicago-Mart Holiday InnWest Mart Center Drive. You can read my TripAdvisor review for more details. But my “TRIP TIP” is definitely a local restaurant there called “Big Bowl”. Authentic Chinese and Thai and desserts and all made fresh each day. Spring is around the Corner! Thanks for reading.

It was my first time here after hearing about this place, I ordered the dumplings which were featured on the special that evening. Being a frequent eater of Thai and Chinese cuisine, dumplings are filled with pork and vegetable. I have terrible alergies to shellfish. The server nor the menu mentioned seafood. I received my dumplings popped one in to find it was filled with shrimp. I tld the server who then informed me that my beef dish with green beans was cooked also in oil that contained shellfish. Long story short...they need to be informative, and they need to NOT cook items having nothing to do with fish in fish oils and such. I had a swollen mouth that evening and am lucky that was all. I would not go there again. NOT impressed.

Was here last night and day at the bar where Sam was working. I cant have dairy, so I inquired about an allergen menu. Great news! Big Bowl users no dairy! I didnt know if I should get dumplings or potstickers so I got 3 of each (veggie). Delicious! I also got the glazed salmon which was so piping hot and perfect. I took half of everything back to my hotel to have today. Bad news, though, my refrigerator want working, so I am back today for potstickers and veggie fried rice. The food is superb and the service is excellent. I think I found a new favorite place and even though Im only in Chicago a few days, luckily there is a Big Bowl in Reston, VA as well.

I ordered Big Bowl today from GrubHub for myself and another. I ordered the Stir Fry Bar and made it vegetarian with brown rice and teriyaki sauce. It was soo good. It tasted kind of smiley. The vegetables tastes very fresh. I think Ill choose a spicy sauce next time but this dish as it was was great. The portion was large. My partner ordered the Stir Fry Bar with crispy chicken, veg. fried rice, and teriyaki sauce. He said it was delicious. The chicken was crispy and the fried rice was fresh and flavorful. The crab rangoon was also great, really crispy, and seemed to have more crab than I am used to. Very good!

Great vibe, attentive staff, fresh produce and reasonably priced. Nicely cooked Asian favorites, tried the Pork dumplings, Thai green curry and spicy cashew chicken. Dumplings were great , thin and silky wrappers and decadent porky filling with the best smoky seasame oil and garlic sauce Mwaah!!. Green curry was awesome , crunchy veggies , silky tofu , nice rich fiery curry sauce ..best thing for the winter ..probably could do with a little more balance of sweetness. Cashew chicken was flawless crispy chicken , crunchy nuts , well balanced sauce ..lip smacking stuff. Definitely going back for more.

About what youd expect from a restaurant that claims to specialize in both thai and chinese food at once- familiar options, reasonable prices (for the location. These would be outrageous anywhere else), decent serving size, and about zero surprises or risks taken in the flavor department. Dont expect to add this to your list of must-stop restaurants for your next visit to Chicago, but if you want some basic americanized chinese food and happen to be nearby, you could do a lot worse. I wouldnt be back, simply because I would want to try new things at that price point.

My friend and I were hungry and we had to wait for spa services. So we were just walking around and bumped into Big Bowl. The wait inside was pack. At first we didnt want to wait but then we went back in and a just walking in the decor was really nice it was dim but had like a cozy feel. The waitress was awesome. She walked us through the menu. She asked us what was our favorite food and recommended what we may like. We did this roll that was so yummy. They give you like 8 and they are really small but we had left overs. Definitely try this place.

Thank you so much to Michael Crane and our server Michael. It was our first night in Chicago and they were so nice and helpful. They thoughtfully answered all our questions and when two of our appetizers were ordered they graciously gave us one on the house. Michael Crane also gave us a free dessert as it was our first visit. Everyone in there was so helpful and nice. Great atmosphere, wonderful people and delicious food. Michael really made our day, we will be telling everyone about how great Big Bowl was. Thank you Michael!

Staff are friendly and attentive. Restaurant is attractive. Manager welcomed us after we told server this was our first time there and gave us complimentary cucumber salads, which were quite tasty. The entrees, however, were non-traditionally flavored - definitely werent what we expected. My wifes pad thai was far too vinegary and my Kung Pao chicken was far too mild and missing a lot of flavors that I expected. Im afraid something got lost in the Chinese-Thai fusion process.
