The food was bad and the owner was very rude and my friends son felt sick after dinner there.Bad memory! Danny M. Gurnee, IL 12/20/2011 31 Filtered Reviews for Sun Shui Restaurant Note: The reviews below are not factored into the businesss overall star rating. Lee C. Grayslake, IL 12/16/2011 This establishment DOES NOT Pay new employees . There is a standard of work ethic that needs to be maintained. How dare an establishment not pay a new employee any sort of wage for more than 2-3 weeks of work. This is unethical and completely wrong. I VETO THIS PLACE! THEY WILL NOT BE GETTING MY MONEY OR ANY OF MY FRIENDS!!! Brian K. Vernon Hills, IL 12/16/2011 We ordered a chicken dish and received something which looked like beef (which my wife doesnt eat). We asked the server to verify. Never mind that he didnt take the dish w him, but he came back and said "yes its chicken." You can see where this is going. We started eating it. it wasnt chicken. another server admitted it wasnt chicken, apologized and took it off our bill. meanwhile my wife had already eaten a few pieces of it. look, shes not going to die but i can no longer trust these folks. I dont know if it was a new server or a momentary lapse of judgment but the worst thing you can do in a restaurant is to ignore someones dietary needs. Maria L. Mt Prospect, IL 12/13/2011 took my husband here for lunch this past Wednesday, never been to this restaurant before. Was so impressed with the food here! I read some bad reviews about how its overrated but I didnt think so at all! And they were so fresh and SO well cooked! When u also get a plate of salad, broccoli, yellow rice, baked potato, and then the bread and veggie dish at the beginning. We only ordered the special from the menu tho so they charged an extra $5 for the single plate charge. Still worth it tho cuz the sides are excellent and couldnt even finish them!! I will definitely be coming back, but just wish I could try more things! Everything looks so good, menu selection is huge. Free parking lot and great service from the staff too Sara l. Palatine, IL 12/11/2011 I would not go to eat in a restaurant that doesnt pay the employees what theyre supposed to earn. Thats wrong. Ben M. Vernon Hills, IL 12/9/2011 Believe me, never eat there. Dont waste your money and time.Absolutely Gross. Dont ever go inside the restaurant, it will make you want to vomit. Food is awful and overpriced. Never Go Here. Renee m. Mundelein, IL 12/6/2011 Wage Theft Department of Labor Implements New Law to Help Illinois Workers Recover Unpaid Wages Quicker On July 30th, 2010, Governor Quinn signed a bill into law to increase protections for Illinois workers who are not paid the wages they have earned. The new law amends existing state law to help thousands of Illinois workers recover unpaid wages more quickly. Liz S. Arlington Heights, IL 12/5/2011 It is my understanding that this place of business has refused to pay new employees, even a standard server low rate of pay. This is very sad in this economy and needs to be addressed. I do not support the theft of money from hard working employees. This needs to be stopped. Justine Y. Vernon Hills, IL 12/5/2011 Ew..Ew...Ew. This place is so, so gross. We ended up leaving here really hungry because we couldnt eat half the food. It was like everything had been sitting out for forever. It was rubbery and saucy and fatty. The pastries were nasty, and everything was super over priced. All 3 of us agreed that we would never come back. ken m. Buffalo Grove, IL 12/3/2011 They give you only small amount of food for that price compare with another chinese restaurant. The owner which is a 40 years old lady is very meant. I asked her couple questions about the food and she gave me attitude . We are very sick of this place. david a. Vernon Hills, IL 12/2/2011 I went there to have dinner one evening with couple friends and we all were sick that night. The food must be not clean.

My family has come to this restaurant multiple times and we had a good experience most times with good food and exceptional service. However today we went and ordered wonton soup and honey sesame chicken. Starting with the wonton soup, it was served colder than room temperature and it had a foul smell. It tasted like it was made several days ago. We confronted the waitress, and even though we told her no more soup, we were served two more cups. This time actually warm, but the taste was very sour. Now moving on to the entree, the honey sesame chicken was delicious the first couple of bites, after that the meal did not even taste like chicken, just dough covered in oil. The steamed rice that came with the order had the texture of plastic. None of my family members or myself could finish even a third of our plates because of how awful the food was, so we asked for the check and we were charged full price for the order. I was not expecting for them to have the meal be free, however at least have it be marked down a little bit. This experience was terrible and will definitely be the last time we come to this restaurant.

I had no problem with the service either time, but both times I got take out. From what I did see, the decor was nice, but definitely Americanized. The first time I ordered sushi. I was sad to see the small quantity of small pieces. If you want EXCELLENT sushi take out, try the Mitsuwa Marketplace. HUGE pieces for literally half the price. The second time I ordered Crab Rangoons, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Chicken Fried Rice. Nothing spectacular. In the Crab Rangoons, I could see the SPECKS of imitation crab meat. It was mostly cream cheese and onion. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was better, but there were no vegetables. I got 3 pieces of pineapple. This dish is usually served with chunks of bell pepper. I was saddened by the Chicken Fried Rice. The chicken had a highly processed, rubbery consistancy that I didnt eat. If you just get fried rice youll be fine. I cant say that I didnt give it a second try. Needless to say I wont be giving it a third. WHY CANT I FIND GOOD QUALITY CHINESE FOOD?

It does not close at 11. It closes at 10:30PM. I figured it will be a close call so I called to see if theyre going to be serving still if I arrived at ten. The man on the phone was more than welcoming and said that they would still serve us and that only the sushi bar was closed if thats okay. Thats perfectly fine and we drove to the restaurant. When we got there the man in front immediately looked at his phone and went to a lady at the bar. She came over and said we close in 30 minutes. Youll have to leave by then. Why in the would would you say its okay and then pretty much say upon arrival. If thats the case close at 10 and kick customers out by 10:30. Dont tell your customers that its fine and 10:30 but say no at the door. She even had the nerve to say I know but you can take out instead. Thats the whole reason we called ahead. Terrible customer service. First time going there yet didnt even get to actually try the food but Ill never be going back.

Sounds like some of the other reviewers might have an axe to grind... I can only speak to lunch during the week as thats when I go to Sun Shui. I have never had a problem with anyone being rude to me, nor have I ever had to wait an excessive amount of time. My food has always been prepared properly, served hot and of good quality. The lunch specials are a good deal, as little as $7 for soup, an appetizer and an entree with either steamed or fried rice. I will admit that the appetizer (a fried wonton with a veggie filling) on the lunch special isnt all that great, but for $7 I can deal with that. I dont know of a better lunch value in the area. I like the Crispy Szechwan Beef or the String Bean with Pork. I will occasionally splurge a few extra dollars and get the Beef Chow Fun. As I said, Ive never been disappointed at lunchtime.
