Taka sushi offers many types of sushi (nigiri, rolls, pressed, chirashi, and sashimi) as well as other traditional Japanese fare that you may not find in other Japanese restaurants. I visited Taka sushi after an American friends recommendation, but I was heavily disappointed in my experience there. As the place is known for its fish, I decided to order the chirashi zushi, which is a rice bowl topped with a variety of sashimi (raw fish slices). However, this 29$ plate was small, with only about 12 slices of sashimi. The rice was cold, dry, and stale - which I cannot imagine any sane Japanese person serving... The tuna was mostly comprised of ligaments (white bands of tough filaments) which is generally considered crap parts of the tuna. The rest of the sashimi were very thinly sliced and dry. The dish screamed leftover pieces of fish on leftover rice. For a 29$ plate, I felt insulted. Unfortunately it was my friends birthday dinner, so I could not make a scene and complain. Oy vey. My friends ordered a variety of other dishes - sushi rolls, the sashimi salads, baked fish, stewed meat, and the specials. Aside from the baked fish (hamachi kama seemed good), we were generally unsatisfied, especially as most of the dishes are appetizer size and run 10-20$ a plate. The rice and miso soup are not included in a meal and must be ordered separately. And to top it off, they charged me extra for a cup of green tea... I dont think Ive been ever charged for green tea at a Japanese operated restaurant. I was trying to end my meal peacefully with some hot tea, but that did not happen either... Service was fine, with frequent water rounds, and our waitress was pleasant. The interior had a pleasant ambiance, but the tables are somewhat closely placed. I could hear way too much of the neighbor tables conversations... Now, I believe that if someone likes a place it isnt my place to judge. We all have different preferences. It seems like alot of people enjoy Taka Sushi. However, in good conscience, I could not recommend this place to any of my friends. The quality of the dishes are unacceptable for its high price. Ive had better sushi at a local sketchy pan-Asian restaurant... That being said, they do offer a variety of dishes (like baked fish and pressed sushi) that one can only find in a Japanese operated establishment.

I wish I could make this lower. I was eating lunch and ordered the sweet ebi sashimi. I made sure to ask the waiter if that included the fried shrimp heads. I am an avid fan of fried shrimp heads and they have become my favorite new delicatessen. The waiter brought only the tail portion of the role and I inquired twice about the heads. Once the entire meal was over, the waiter approached me and told me there were no heads available. I asked politely if he could speak with a manager about this because I would not have ordered the sashimi had I not thought I was getting the heads. Taka came out of the kitchen screaming and pointing at me like a banshee. Mind you, I was with a colleague from work who shockingly turned to me and said "Os he scolding you!?" The entire restaurant got to share in my embarrassment in being talked down to for a mistake that his staff made. I wasnt asking for a hand-me down, I just wanted to express my dissatisfaction with a manager, not get into a war. Taka may be passionate about his sushi, but that same passion led quickly to anger and hatred. I have never been treated like this from anyone in a restaurant and I wish nobody my same experience. I would rather spend 5 times more for sushi than to support Taka and his anger issues. The customer may not always be right, but there is always a better way to handle things rationally.

Taka Sushi is, in my opinion, the best sushi bar in Atlanta. The reason for this is simple. Taka San, the owner. His sushi is the best Ive had to date. Im also a soup noodle lover, and his Shoyu Ramen is about the most authentic Ive had anywhere, in LA, New York, or anywhere else. In fact, I like it so much that I can actually eat two bowls of the stuff! His restaurant is fairly modest, but hes putting the finishing touches on his new operation in Silver Springs, which looks to be much more impressive and large than the previous location and opening sometime in June, but as always, "the foods the thing." On a side note, every so often, Taka decides to make a side dish of baby back ribs, cooked to perfection and slathered with an amazing sauce. If youre lucky enough to be there at the right time, its a priority. His standby Gyoza dumplings are superb, and he also has the best fried okra in town. Bottom line, if youre as serious as I am about my sushi, this will become your favorite place, too.

I had to update my review of this place. I had originally given it 3 stars, but that was 4 years ago and I found their food a little lacking. I went back yesterday and had a much better experience. The food was top notch this time. I ordered an assortment of nigiri sushi (Otoro, Madai, Uni, Amaebi, and Hamachi), Tonkotsu Ramen, Katsudon, and Gyudon. The only minor disappointments were the Ramen and Otoro. Ramen was a little bland and you can get much better at Jinya just a few miles down the road on the same street. Otoro didnt have that silky and buttery texture and flavor that Ive only found in maybe 2 places (Tomo and the One Sushi+) other than my visits to Tokyo. Prices are slightly high here, but not as bad as places like Umi and Tomo. i spent 80 bucks for lunch, but thats not terrible considering what I ordered.

Consistent neighborhood sushi restaurant. I wouldnt travel out of my way to go here but if its near you its worth it as its a better option considering other nearby Japanese restaurants. Theyre usually packed but the wait goes fast. Tables along the booth are quite close so dont expect to have an intimate conversation. The service is good, but sometimes slow. Menu is diverse that even a non-sushi lover can find tapas like options (yakitori, cooked dishes, katsu, noodles, etc.). Sushi quality is consistent enough that its a go-to option. Its not phenomenal where youll think youre in heaven with each bite, but definitely above average. Prices are a little above average but thats because of the location. North Buckhead/South Sandy Springs. Theres a special Japanese menu but you have to be able to read it.

Probably one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Chef Hiroshima is an absolute gem and the restaurant is very small and intimate which was perfect. I brought a bottle of 1990 Krug to share with my two friends who joined me and we also had a bottle of sinfully delicious sake. We started with a few dishes such as Hashim and roe with gold, and then came the most phenomenal Nigerian Ive ever had. Watching the chef create each perfect masterpiece was so exciting. The service was absolutely outstanding as well. Every single aspect of this dining experience was pure perfection and Im dying to come back again and again and again, even with the hefty price tag.
