Myself and 2 others went there on a Friday night around 9 pm. They were busy, but not slammed. While waiting at the bar for a table to open up, my gal pal ordered a draft beer. Not only was the beer warm, but it had a funny taste to it. She mentioned this to the bartender who took the beer from her and simply dumped it down the drain. Then turned around without offering a different drink and served other customers. We had to ask for another beer since he poured the almost full beer down the drain. After being seated let me say our waitress was AWFUL. We ordered cheese dip and another round of drinks which took close to 25 minutes to reach the table. Luckily for us we were sitting by the bar, and could see our drinks that were poured just sitting there for the 20 minutes. I almost got up and served ourselves. At one point, we witnessed three beers sit on the pickup station for 40 minutes until they were served to someone. Simply unacceptable. When the food did arrive, it was alright. Thats the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one. Not once after the food was served, did the server come to ask if everything was okay. I had to actually flag down another waitress to ask for the check. Well check time comes. We split the bill up having 2 tickets on mine and one on another. We left a tip on one of the checks, but not the other. Monday rolls around, and I see a double tip that they added in on the other check. Needless to say it has been disputed. This place deliberately wrote in another tip. DONT COME HERE. Shady business and staff and mediocre food.

I ordered a #11 combination yesterday...a burrito, an enchilada, and a taco. I specified ground beef and no onions (Im allergic to them, but the aftereffects are relatively mild if I limit intake). My platter came out and the filling was at least half onions. Im talking about the ground beef was #2 in the order of predominance of ingredients. I should have taken a pic, but we were in a hurry to get to a ball game and this was a developing crisis. The manager arrived quickly and told me that the ground beef is cooked with onions, which is ordinary and to be expected. We went back and forth several times about the absolute volume of included onions, resolving the matter by me ordering steak instead of ground beef. Those versions of my preferred items were hot and delicious, but seriously, the ground beef filling shouldnt be 60% onions, even for people that like and can eat onions. The manager was respectful and friendly, as was our server, Destiny. If you enjoy hot stuff, ask for the habanero salsa. It is very red, very fruity--as habaneros should be, and quite hot. Its rare that a Mexican-type food place has salsa that gives me a good burn, but El Porton has some. Try it if you are a pepperhead or are adventurous.

We sat on the patio for over 15 minutes eating chips waiting for a server. I went in and asked the hostess who our server was but it was another several minutes before she showed up to take our drink order. We are longtime customers of El Porton but the last two dining experiences have not been good. Last night the bar tender was out in the parking lot next to the patio dining area talking to her friend on a VERY LOUD motorcycle. A child on the patio started crying as the bike was exceptionally disturbing. All 4 parties dining on the patio ask this guy to turn his bike off which he did. The bar tender went back inside after flirting, laughing, and having her picture taken with this guy while sitting on the bike. She clearly was acquainted with this man. He then started the bike again and sat there revving the engine intentionally disturbing the customers. Once he drove away we were greatly relieved but the inconsiderate jerk then circled the restaurant just for effect loudly revving as he passed the patio yet one more time. When we (3 or the 4 tables) complained to the manager, his response was “we don’t know who that guy is”. I suggested he ask his bartender. It will be a while before we go back, if ever.

Just keep your eye out for bad salad dressing.... Ive gone to this restaurant with my family now four times. The first and second visits were pretty good, great service, good food, and live music. My last two visits, however, were very dissapointing. Slow service during both visits. During the last visit, with my pregnant wife and my little daughter, I was served expired food. The salad dressing package that I recieved was pretty wrinkled, as if it had been at the bottom of a box. After looking for the expiration date and not finding it, I did pour it on my salad and stopped two bites in due to the taste. Something wasnt right. Looking closer at the package, I was able to find the date imprinted along the side. I was originally looking for print in ink... SIX MONTHS OLD!!! I alerted our server, and she took the package quickly from me before reporting it to her manager. To make this all worse, the manager turned in our direction while hearing what happened and immediately looked away when he caught my eye. He never even bothered to come by and speak! Needless to say, I will never be back and am very glad that it wasnt my wifes or daughters food in question.

I came here with my husband for Cinco de Mayo. I love Mexican food but have Crohns Disease. Due to Crohns disease I am very careful about reading the ingredients and asking about spiciness of items that I dont know. I ordered the Seafood burrito that did not mention jalapeños or pico de gallo. Most of the burrito was very tasty and enjoyable but unfortunately I got to a part that had major spice to it. When I opened the burrito I found a few random sliced jalapeños at the end of the burrito. The server appropriately asked for the manager to speak to us but sadly he only had excuses that there was pico de gallo in the food. He did not seem to appreciate the situation or understand the possible "bad" evening I will have. He also at one point tried to blame the server, who was NOT at fault In the slightest. There should be better descriptions of food and better understanding from the managers. People jump at nut and gluten allergies but barely say anything for Crohns disease and that is not right. If you have any spicy issues PLEASE be careful!

My family and I have bveen eating at El Porton for 20 years. We first went there because my 2 year old did not like the other restaurants we had tried. Once we nad she tasted the regular hot sauce we were hooked. She is 23 lives in Middle Georgia and we have to send El Porton rescue packages to her regularly! We were raised on Mexican food in Texas and this is the best mexican food around Georgia! The food is home made. The tamales are made by Jose every Tuesday and I have friends that come form all around to eat them. The waiters are friendly and the food is excellent, what else could you want? I have eaten Mexican food in many places including Mexico but this is the Best of the Best! If you ever have a problem just ask for a manager or the owner and your problem will be solved.
