Definitely the worst dining experience ever, and Ive dined throughout the world. French?? Seriously? Im French. All my relatives live in Paris and the South of France, and I can tell you this was not even close to French cooking... at least the brunch menu wasn’t. Hopefully the dinner menu is better, but that would be hard to imagine after our brunch experience. My husband and I walk in. Nobody greets us. Were walking around not knowing what to do. Walk in the bar area, back out to the dining room. Finally I see someone who appears that she might work there. I ask her if she does. She replies "yes." I ask her for a table. She says the wait is going to be at least 20 minutes or more, but we can eat in the bar area if we want. So we get seated at a table in the bar area. We sit for at least 15 minutes before the bartender finally comes to our table to ask us if we want something to drink. As were waiting on our WATER and DIET COKE that we ordered -- not hard to make -- two more tables are seated in the bar. So now the only three tables in the bar area are seated. Still no water or Diet Coke. The bartender walks over to one of the tables, who obviously were regulars, who brought a dog with them, (who, by the way, sat in a chair with his head on the table as the people fed him), and they got their water! Still waiting.... We finally get water and Diet Coke. Still waiting to order as the bartender is petting the dog and talking to the regulars. Finally all three tables actually get a basket of bread all at the same time. Mind you: We have now been there 30 minutes, second table maybe 10, third table maybe 5, but we don’t get anything until all three are seated. FINALLY, we get to order. Steak and Frites for my husband and Eggs Benedict for me. After another long wait, someone rushes the food to our table, plops it down, and runs away. Doesnt ask us if we want or need anything. I have to go to the bar to ask for salt and pepper. Nobody EVER comes back to our table. The steak and frites were a big BOWL of soggy Varsity style French Fries, and a long narrow piece of steak that is shaped like a biscotti, and as big as one. My guess is it was a hanger steak, after looking it up on-line when we get home. My eggs are hard boiled on a thin slice of Kroger deli meat, Black Forest Ham, and two soggy supposed pieces of brioche with potatoes Lyonnaise that were completely bland and tasted like the soggy French Fries. This is the first time in 20 years my husband actually does not eat all of his fries! Steak and Frites: A super thin slice of steak that is usually half the size of your plate, pink in the middle. Frites: very, very thinly sliced potatoes fried to a deep golden CRISP surrounding your steak. Eggs Benedict: at least SOFT boiled eggs! Not two round little balls on top of I dont know what??? Who doesn’t know how to cook eggs benedict?? We barely get down half of our food. Were done and ready to go. We sit and sit waiting for someone to come take our plates and ask how everything was, do we want our check, SOMETHING! After a good 30 minutes, finally someone comes over to take our plates and asks us how everything was.... I told her. I thought her head was going to start spinning... what??? Everybody loves our food! My reply: Well, I dont! You shouldnt have asked if you didnt want my opinion. Then the manager comes over and asks us if there is a problem. We reply there is not a problem. We were asked how our food was, we replied it was like Varsity fries and a Longhorn steak, and my eggs were too well done. Another gasp! She asks if we want dessert. NO; we just want our check so we can leave.... “Well come back and see us” she says. I reply, “Unless your dinner menu is better than your brunch menu, we won’t be back.”

We took my mother in law to this place for lunch on her birthday. We started the meal with an appetizer of mussels steamed in garlic/butter/wine sauce. Absolutely some of the best Ive ever had ANYWHERE. Both my wife and M-I-L agreed. As an entree I had the garlic roasted chicken and they had the baked sea bass. Both dishes were served at just the right time, hot and presented well. The chicken was fall off the bone tender. Whole roasted garlic cloves were scattered over the meat. A side ragu of vegetables was served as well. Im not a fan of vegetables cooked that well, but they were tasty. The sea bass was cooked perfectly. The meat flaked well and was not over seasoned. It was topped with some wild greens. The best part of the meal was the surprise birthday cheesecake torte that the waitress brought to the table. We did not inform her that this was a birthday meal. She simply overheard the birthday toast for the M-I-L and took it upon herself to make this wonderful gesture. A bonus was that it was very, very good! Cheesecake alternated with spongecake, drizzled with raspberry sauce, large dollops of semi-sweet chocolate sauce and fresh blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. Perfect! We dined outdoors, at noon, on July 2. Yet it wasnt overly hot or uncomfortable. Not just a great meal, a great experience.

Nutshell: Our waiter was expressionless, completely unfriendly and numb. He lacked ANY basic people skills required for this supposed level of restaurant. The food was bland (even had to return an appetizer) and the prices... get real! I dont care if its Buckhead, but it ISNT Paris for cryin out loud! To top it off, the waiter handed my mother the bill after I had requested it. He never returned to collect it and I finally had to step to the manager. Great patio, but with the real estate market the way it is, Im going to pay MY mortgage first. This place represents the Parisian stereotype... "What are these stoopeed Americans doing in my restaurant?!" Ill never darken their door again and Im willing to bet theyre fine with that. Too many great restaurants in Atlanta that appreciate their customers

I chose Anis to celebrate my birthday but I dont recommend anyone make my mistake. The food was very good, but the experience was lousy due to the poor service. The server could not have cared less that we were having dinner at the restaurant let alone that we were celebrating anything, even through we made it well known that it was my birthday. Luckily my friends and family made the night enjoyable. And the owner did apologize after I shared my disappointment with the hostess. But if you are looking for a nice place to have a celebration, in an environment that truly cares about their customers, keep looking.

This little gem offers a view into what "cultural dining" should be. Anis is a delightful little French Bistro located in the heart of Buckhead. They have no parking, yes a valet is the only option, and an even smaller dinning room. What they lack in size, is made up for in boutique french cuisine that is absolutely wonderful. Lunch and dinner are the main times, and this place will get very busy. Call ahead and make a reservation, unless you sneeze hundreds. A well manicured, and superb atmosphere should be expected here. Enjoy this little diamond in the rough!
