Still sticking with five-stars in Class (College hangout / Everybody Welcome / Great outdoor deck / Pensacola St. Fixture). When I think of Gordos - I think of right here, back in the late 90s. Im not sure when Gordos will be celebrating 20 years, but its gotta be soon. Having that sort of staying power, with a transient student population year after year, isnt easy - given the fickle nature of each years incoming waves - but Gordos stays ahead of the curve. The outside deck is top notch - and inside seating is as cozy and attractive as ever. Seldom will there be a lull in the business, and on game-day, count on this being a center of activity. There are a handful of reviews that knock Gordos for not being "The Real Deal". To me, the sanctity of authentic renditions of the Cuban "classics" as we know them has never been the goal here - instead, its been to provide a Tallahassee interpretation of many Cuban dishes along with a good number of originals. If youre looking for a reenactment of a Calle Ocho scene, this isnt for you. If youre looking for a good time with friends, solid food and drink, and a number of big ole screens (outside and in), along with a great location - then Gordos is for you.

Gordos is a typical college dive that serves great Cuban food with little sense of urgency. The decor is unappealing but not unattractive, which is to say that it will neither put you off nor draw you in. Youll wait a few more minutes than youd like for your server to come, and depending on how busy they are your food might take awhile as well. When it comes, however, it will be hot and delicious. The fries are fantastic, and a basket as an appetizer is really a must when you visit. Make sure you get the Gordo sauce to dip them in as well. The Pollo Empanizado (fried chicken) is my favorite, and all varieties of beans (black beans, moros, and congri) are excellent. Their pressed sandwiches are also great, and if you (or someone in your party) doesnt like Cuban food, then you can rest easy knowing they make an excellent burger as well. All in all I highly recommend Gordos, though I would caution you to avoid it if youre in a hurry.

we go there once or twice a week because the food is good, but their service is TERRIBLE! not only are they slow but they are unpleasant and extremely rude. ive been a server for over a year & so has everyone i was with- we feel for servers. but this is just ridiculous. the girl today, stephanie, decided to make a sly remark to us on the way out. i called after we left to talk to a manager, and the first time a girl (think it was our server) told me a manager wasnt working & when i asked when one would be in, she said she didnt know & hung up on me.. so i called back. then a man answered who pretended to be their "manager", he was extremely rude and ended up hanging up on us as well. moral of the story- they dont run their business by the idea that "the customer is always right". i will never go back there again.

I am pretty surprise this place has a 4/5 star rating, all my three experiences with Gordos has left me dissatisfied. It might have changed owners, as I can tell this reviews are almost a year old. I wish I could give this place 0/5 stars. My first time going to Gordos was very disappointing, it took the waitress over 20 minutes to acknowledge us, and take our order. We literally had to switch tables, to a location where it was impossible for them to miss us. Our second time around was almost as disappointing as our first, but me being a believer had to give them a third chance. On my third time, I receive a very authentic cuban food, it was so authentic that it even had TWO fried flies, on the white rice and beans. Sorry Gordos, three strikes and your out!

The first time I went there it took 40 minutes to get our food from the time we ordered. I figured this was a fluke and went back a couple weeks later. This time it took one hour to get our food. I counted at least 5 people asking to speak with the manager and one lady asked for her money back. Its quite astonishing really. Why go into the restaurant business if you dont know how to run a restaurant? There was absolutely no attempt to make the unhappy people happy. The service was surprisingly terrible. The layout of the restaurant if awful. If you dont sit in a booth then youre out of luck. The tables are right up against each other and you cant move without hitting the person behind you. Gordos wont be getting a third chance from me.

I went with my brothers while on my time in Tallahassee and sat down at a table that wasnt cleaned off nor was a server present for the first 15 or so minutes. After having a server present herself, we were then told to wait for about 20 more minutes to have our food ordered. We then preceded to wait for a little over an hour before our food arrived, with no refills on water for entirety of that period. The food I, myself, received was cold. The server, also, did not communicate with my table at all aside from asking us if we were okay once, while she went to every other table she had and got them refills and anything else they asked. Quite a bad experience.

Extremely slow service. Ordered a frozen margarita, the half-melted drink I got didnt even share a zipcode with tequila, let alone have any in it. When I asked for a a bottle of beer, they were of course out of it. When our food finally came out after about 40 minutes, my food was warm at best though tasted reasonably good so they get a star for that. To top it all, the view of the kitchen from my seat made it very clear that they probably havent cleaned it since last week. Filthy floor, overrunning garbage can, yeah. God help these people if the health inspector ever showed up.

As a cuban, Ive tried to like this place. But its awful. The rice feels old, the tostones and maduros have obviously been refried at lest twice, and the sandwhiches lack flavor. Its, simply put, a waste of money. Please, dont think that is what Cuban cuisine is like. Its just a mediocre representation. Im not one to leave negative reviews, especially this blunt, but weve had several bad experiences with the food there. On the plus side i will say it seems they have cheap drinks. I havent tried them, but the happy hour is long so maybe thats something you could try.

Gordos has really fallen off lately, the service is terrible. If you enjoy sitting for 10 minutes and being by passed by multiple servers before being greeted, not getting your apps until after your entrees (bc your server forgot) and still being charged for them then this is your fav place! It would be different if this was a one time thing but it has happened over and over again. I cant even rely on eating at this place if I have anywhere to be on time because it can take up to 90 mins to get your food. Sad because it used to be a favorite.
