Upon exiting a different restaurant that wasnt yet serving lunch, I stopped by The Corner Cafe because a staff member approached me in the street and handed me a menu, telling me about their establishment. I had a similar experience a few months back while at the Farmers Market, so I figured Id finally go in and give it a try. The staff was super friendly, telling us about the specials and what items they have that are local favorites, which surprised me a great deal after reading the other reviews and comments about almost hostile situations that have occurred between staff and other patrons. The owner asked about us personally, how long wed lived in Sanford, what we do for work and fun, etc., and recommended food that he thought wed enjoy trying. I ended up ordering the Cuban sandwich since that seemed to be a pretty popular choice; it was good, but I dont think its the best Cuban sandwich Id ever had, so it didnt really live up to the hype. The bread was a little dry, and I was unimpressed with the sides (chips were store bought and the macaroni salad wasnt exactly my thing). I did enjoy the free desert that they gave us afterwards (a sweet pineapple shot), and thought it was a nice touch to give you the feeling of getting a little something for free. While I would stop in again if I was in the mood for a quick bite and friendly service, I dont see myself making a point to go out of my way to visit The Corner Cafe again.

Went there for dinner on a Friday, my girlfriend and I ordered water while we looked over the menu. The dinner menu was set at a $15 combination for each meal - we would get salad, soup, and a sandwich along with our choice of soft drink/tea/coffee. We each ordered a combination, but were told that because we had already received water, it precluded us from taking the other drinks offered in the combination. Upsetting because I wanted a soda and my girlfriend wanted tea. Why were we essentially charged for water when we hadnt even looked at the menu yet to discover that it prevented us the other options? What restaurant charges for water? Our salad was tasty but all of the lettuce were thin corner strips - the kind thats usually taken out of a salad. My sandwich - the "bacon lover" - was composed of a single strip of bacon, and a single slice of some other meat, and cheese. It was the most pathetic sandwich Ive even seen, it was all bread and almost nothing else. My soup - a potato soup with bacon in it - was incredibly bland. It was a tiny cup too, and I couldnt even finish it. Overall, I had a horribly meal, my girlfriends meal was slightly better, but in the end I paid $30 for a spread I could have gotten for $16 at almost any other sandwich shop - and they would have given me an actual sandwich and food that tastes better. I wont be going back.

The customer service is great when you walk in. However, it is overpriced for what you get. I ordered a ham and swiss which was supposed to come with aioli and did not. The buns that are used look like hot dog buns our tasted stale and old. My wife ordered a turkey sandwich which was not at all good. The price of these sandwiches is nearly $10 but what we got was more like a $3 sandwich put into a panini press. Horrible quality. The sandwiches were so dry that where it not for the drinks we would not have been able to get them down. After all if you pay for a $10 sandwich you might as well eat it. They also have this policy of no sharing!!! How are you going to try new things if you dont share? Last but not least. They request an 18% gratuity but you have to order at the counter then sit down. We should have done a double take when we walked in and saw the place empty with an employee sitting down eating lunch who was the first person to greet us. Overall. Never going here again. Anyone that wants to ask to see the bread before ordering a sandwich...

Corner Cafe has always been a high point of going to Sanford to do business, I have been there at least 8 times. Today may have been our last. After a 45 minute drive we walk in, myself to the counter to order and my son goes to use the bathroom. The owner was on the phone and stops his call to tell my son that we have to order first before he continues. Justifies it with We have a homeless problem. As we stand there dumbfounded with the rudeness, owner is on the phone attempting to run a credit card that is being declined. My son finally defies the rule so that he doesnt have an accident. I order, and after 20 minutes have to check on my food as we have an appointment to get to. There was no apology, and no thank you after paying. I understand that maybe owner was overwhelmed today trying to answer phone, take orders, and monitor the bathroom however that is not my problem. Today you should have stayed in the office and put some friendly faces out front. We will not be back. The gyro place on the other corner is fast and friendly, great food also.

We use to frequent Corner Cafe since they opened. Several months ago, I was enjoying a bowl of cream of mushroom soup to look down and see a hair in my soup!!! The owner, Michael, didnt bother to say apologize or come over to offer anything. He didnt even say goodbye to us! So flash forward, I decide to give him another chance. I brought my friend and our kids on a lunch date. I told them the food is pretty good. Well, I am so embarrassed. We waited an hour for our food. The other tables that came after got their food first. Instead of apologizing, he goes, "I hope it was worth the wait." ??? What?? Say " sorry for your wait. We had a mix up." Something? What is worse. A lady was cashing out and he demanded her to leave a tip. When she dropped change in the jar, he goes no no no, you can have this back. Then goes back in the kitchen, cursing. I had kids with me and they didnt need to hear that. I am very disappointed. I can see why he changed employees constantly.

This place is absolutely terrible!! From the moment we walked in the door the "chef" was extremely rude! He was rude if you didnt follow his exact directions and he was ride to every person that ordered. Whenever someone tried to order what they wanted he would tell them what he is going to order for them instead. Im all for food suggestions but hes extremely rude about it! If someone doesnt want it then they dont want it. When the food arrived two of the three orders were wrong. Everyone ordered the cuban and all three of them were COLD! It was the WORST "cuban" any of us ever had! I wouldnt even call it a cuban with all the wrong spices and the wrong kind of pickles. If the french onion soup is his specialty soup then Id hate to try his other soups! The french onion soup was more like a broth; terrible!!! I would not recommend this place to anyone! This "chef" thinks his foods the best but its NOT! Avoid this place!!!
