Reservations for this place are few and far between, but my girlfriend and I managed to grab some up online literally six months ago. And now after all this time, the day came. We entered the rocks and it was a magnificently themed facade going on. The people that sat you down rang out "The Master has a table for the Blank family!" and then handed you a little Lumiere figurine as you walked to your table in one of three great dining halls. We got seated in the main, grand hall, which was glorious. Chandeliers-a-plenty with snowy mountains out the window and the snow was visibly snowing. It was great. At a couple points in the night, Beast himself strolled through the dining hall giving everyone greetings and thanks for eating at his joint. The appearance and theming alone earned this place major points. Now, for the food. For the appetizer, we had the Assorted Cured Meats and Sausages plate (served with Cornichons, Pickled Onions, and Toasted Baguette). All of it was pretty good. Im not one for fancy meat and cheese plates, but Brittany is, so I figured we might as well try it. The baguette was actually very above average for bread in general. The meats were good, the cheese was good, and there was a sweet tomato jam on it that I actually wish I had a lot more of even at home. So good. For my entree, I had the Grilled Strip Steak (with Garlic-Herb Butter and Pommes Frites), cooked medium rare. Emphasis on the medium rare. The steak itself was the best one I have had in a very long time. The cook was perfect mostly, the fat was rendered so nicely, that it was edible and delicious, and just for flair, the grill marks were pretty nice, too. Very, very good steak. The green beans underneath were also probably the best green beans I have ever had, legitimately. They had such a great crisp to them and the seasoning was so on point. The garlic-herb butter was on the plate, but it honestly didnt add anything to the dish for me, other than a dipping sauce for the french fries, which were also very above average. My girlfriend had the Sautéed Shrimp and Scallops (with Lobster, Mushrooms, and Seasonal Vegetables in a creamy Lobster Sauce). The lobster was shredded up and tasted like it was butter poached; very nice. The shrimps and the scallops were honestly the best cooked Ive had in all of my time in Orlando. The shrimp has such a good bite to them and they were cooked perfectly. The scallops were also wonderfully cooked. These two items are so easy to overcook, but this place did them right, and they didnt taste like they were frozen. Perfect. Also, the pasta was good. So delicate and tasty; also obviously freshly made. Then on to dessert. We were so full that we only wanted to split one, and the obvious choice was The "Grey Stuff" (Chocolate Shell, Cookie Crème topped with Lumieres special "Grey Stuff"). The dishes had told us that it was delicious. The chocolate shell was a little jolting at first. It was a harder-than-expected shell that crumbled and kind of exploded when we first spooned our way into it, but once we got the hang of it, it was a really good dessert. Crispy and creamy and grey. I like to say that I dont like to hand out too many five star ratings, because then it just seems like Im a pushover when it comes to these places, but looking at my own profile, it looks like Im nothing but a giant pushover. Lol. Either way, even if I was the crankiest old man on the planet, nothing would be able to stop me from giving this place the five stars that this place friggin earned.

I had read so many wonderful things about this place, that I absolutely wanted to dine here during our stay at Disney World. Unfortunately, Im not so sure if it lived up to expectations. Reservations for both lunch and dinner are hard to get, even with trying to book 3 Months in advance. I eventually got us a dinner reservation, but it took a few weeks of persistence. We showed up early for our reservation, but still had to wait quite a long time (Id guess at least 30 minutes) after our allotted time before we were shown through the gates and rushed to our table. We were seated in the Grand Ballroom, which was very large, very crowded, and very noisy. It kind of killed the ambiance, which, based on the food we received, would be one of the only reasons to pay Table Service prices for this restaurant. I think if it had been quieter and less crowded, our experience would have been better. As it is, well probably not return for dinner, but instead stick with lunch where prices are lower. The theming of this place is absolutely gorgeous. With ornate architectural detailed, mural ceilings, lush tapestries, golden chandeliers and lots of little Disney details and magic, its certainly worth checking out. After our meal, we explored the other rooms, which were smaller and quieter, but didnt lack on the adornments. Also, while not official character dining, the beast does walk through the ballroom every 20 minutes or so, with an announcement and fanfare. Youre invited to visit him and take photos after your meal. The French Onion Soup is absolutely amazing! Probably the best I ever had. I should have just ordered 2 bowls of that, and skipped my entree. I had the Sautéed Shrimp and Scallops which was served with mixed veggies in a puff pastry. The seafood and vegetables were cooked to perfection and the puff pastry was flaky and crispy; however I felt that it was a little more on the dry side than I would have liked. It was supposed to have a lobster sauce on it, and I kinda felt it needed more than the light drizzle the filling seemed to be tossed in. I was dining with my parents, and based on some online recommendations, they choose the Herb-crusted Lamb. They were hoping for something on par with the lamb they had at the Blue Bayou the year before. Unfortunately, what they received was far from it. While they did state that the meat was well seasoned, it was also very tough and chewy. They complained about the lack of knives other than the butter knife we were given. The butter knife was insufficient to saw through the meat. They powered through it though, until someone, finally, came around toward the end of the meal to ask us how our food was. After explaining the meat was very tough, a manager was fetched and it was discovered the meat was improperly trimmed and prepared. The silverskin was not removed and the lamb was overcooked. The manager offered to replace the meals with another selection, but by then my parents were pretty far into their meal and declined. They were pretty disappointed with their experience. We had the Grey Stuff for desert. It was delicious! ;) A light, cookies-and-cream mousse/whipped panna cotta piped on top of a chocolate cookie/biscuit.

This is the most popular restaurant at the Magic Kingdom by far and one that you WILL need a reservation for. Even once you have a reservation, it’s easily a 20 minute wait time to get to the ordering counter. Once through to the front of the line, you will be taken to an ordering station and are expected to know what you want (since you’ve had plenty of time to study the menu while waiting in line). Of course, with two kids and four tweens this may still not be possible and being Disney, the ordering staff are very patient and friendly. We ordered the signature cupcake (Master’s Cupcake with the secret “grey stuff”… in other words, a chocolate cupcake with some chocolaty icing…lol), a triple chocolate cupcake, French Onion soup, a Tuna Nicoise Salad, grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids, a vegetable quiche and a couple of potato leek soups. In short, a handful of mix and match to share between nine of us. Soft drinks and coffee were also ordered at the counter but are self-service at the soft-drinks station. You may have noticed the general theme here about no meat items since we only eat halal food. No biggie since there were plenty of vegetarian options to choose from and the order staff were pretty helpful in catering to any allergy requests. Once ordered, we were assigned a table and waited for our trolley to come around. Once you enter the main dining hall, the first thing that strikes you is the scale of it (pretty big) with an ancillary dining hall on the right. The ceilings are intricately decorated with palace art and chandeliers. There are various statues of Beauty and the Beast and paintings of (presumably) various fictional royals on the walls. Very nicely done and part of the experience in being there. The food was quite good and was at our table within half an hour. Taste-wise definitely better than fast food/casual dining but falling short of fine dining, understandably so given the scale of the restaurant. Service was excellent and friendly, as you would expect in Disney World. The restaurant is also open for breakfast and dinner with the latter seemingly having the most elaborate menu. If at Magic Kingdom, this restaurant should be on your to-do list.
