I visited the restaurant many times over a range of 23 years and I published an article in 2007 talking about Chinese restaurants in South Florida including Tropical Chinese Restaurant, which I ranked the best at that time. But now yesterday I found some serious problems with the restaurant. (1) The waiters are not friendly and professional. They dont know how to say sorry to let people less disappointed. They stand there around us so closely and seem to want to overhear us talking. They dont know for sure which food is available and which not. We tried to order Hui Guo Rou. The waiter serving us said its not available while another employee said yes. They had to go back to check and finally gave us a Yes answer. (2) The restaurant is ungenerous. We had 5 people, they only offered 4 small bowls of rice, relentessly leaving one of us without rice to eat, mentioning that we only ordered 4 dishes and the soup for 5 people we had ordered didnt count as a dish. (3) Other than the scanty rice they provided, the dishes in the restaurant are way too expensive comparing to other similar level of Chinese restaurants and of a small quantity. (4) The black color of the uniform every worker there wears seems dirty and hard to let us trust its clean. For the good aspect, the menu with pictures is nice and the food is still tasteful, which compensated us a little bit.

I drove to this restaurant from Downtown Miami to try out the Dim Sum. I asked a friend of mine to join me, I used the glowing reviews as means of persuasion. The venue is not centrally located by any means. It is located in a rather pedestrian strip mall amidst pets shops and check cashing establishments. Upon entering I noticed a troop of waiters standing around regaling themselves and laughing crudely while I waited to be seated. I waited for approximately 7 minutes to be seated - mind you the place is empty and everyone is just standing around doing absolutely nothing. After being seat I had time to look around and take in the decorum; it was over the top Chinese kitsch. The waiter came by to take our drink order - the service was marginal at best. We ordered 7 different items from the Dim Sum menu - the food was downright terrible. The fried shrimp tasted more like the oily mess it was fried in then shrimp. Even the steamed items were flavorless and low-end. Half way into our meal my friend began to feel sick from the food. While concerned I figured she was being overly dramatic about the poor quality of the food. 20 minutes later both she and I were in the car on our way home with acute intestinal aches. We were both ill for DAYS!! I will NEVER eat at this establishment again, the food was lousy, greasy, and it made me sick. .

ALRIGHT PEOPLE, MOST OF YOU FOLKS WHO LIKES THIS PLACE A LOT NEED TO REEVALUATE YOUR CHINESE FOOD PALATE. 1. SERVICE IS GOOD ONLY DEPENDS ON THE SERVER. WE HAD TWO SERVER, ONE SERVED US THE SOUP WITH THE SOUP DRIPPING ALL OVER THE TABLE AND DID NOT APOLOGIZED FOR THAT. THE OTHER WAS GOOD BUT NOT EXCELLENT. 2. WE ORDER BASIC CHICKEN AND SHRIMP HOTPOT DISH BOTH CAME OUT EXTREMELY SALTY! FOR THE PRICE AND RAVES...I EXPECT BETTER. 3. THE TASTES IS THERE BUT NOT LIKE HOW MOST PEOPLE RAVED ABOUT. 4. NO WAY YOU CAN COMPARE THE FOOD TASTES LIKE NEW YORK OR SAN FRAN, OR LOS ANGLES...NO WAY..NOT EVEN CLOSE! (YES I HAVE EATEN ALL THOSE PLACES LISTED AND IN HONG KONG)...I AM BORN CHINESE. 5. LOCATION IS TERRIBLE...SORRY BUT IT IS ALMOST LOCATED IN A GHETTO.. BARELY ANY LIGHT IN THE PARKING AND THEY ARE GETTING AWAY WITH CHARGING AVERAGE $16-$30 PER PLATE? I CAN SEE THAT THEY CAN CHARGE MORE IF IT WAS AT A PRIME LOCATION LIKE S. BEACH MIAMI AND EXCELLENT TASTING FOOD..BUT ITS NOT AT A PRIME LOCATION AND NOT EXCELLENT TASTING FOOD! 6. VERY CLEAN DECOR AND OPEN WINDOW TO SEE THE CHIEF COOK..BUT I CAME FOR THE FOOD, RIGHT PRICING, AND IF THEY CHARGE FINE DINING PRICES, WE DID NOT EVEN GET FINE DINING SERVICE EITHER.

One word, HORRIBLE and for the quality SUPER over priced. I ordered something simple, honey chicken and special fried rice, $32. I was excited because the place was packed to the door and I saw good ratings but what a disappointment it was. The rice was like one flavorless lump of mass that had to be pried apart with the little shrimp and meat mostly all on top. The honey chicken was brown and it was clearly from being cooked in old/over used oil, not burned on the fire. The chicken had absorbed so much oil that pools of oil actually formed under the chicken when I tried to heat it up a bit, trying to salvage my dinner. Add to that that I ordered honey chicken and they gave me garlic honey, something I tried to eat but it just wasnt possible. In the end, my 8 year old daughter didnt want to eat it either and I just tossed it all in the trash. I am not even a fan of Chinese food, it was literally the 1st time in at least 10 years that I order any and after this experience it will probably be another 10. This was on Saturday night, 1/28/17. I wish Id taken pictures of the food to post here. On a good note, the fortune cookies were great. Expensive cookies. :-/

We never miss going to this restaurant during our annual trip to the Miami area, now in our eleventh year running. The dim sum at lunch time is a very special treat for those of us who live in smaller cities like Cape Coral or Ft. Myers. The restaurant doesnt look like much from the outside, but the interior is very nice and the service has always been prompt and attentive over the many years. The few comments I saw stating the contrary are obviously plants by jealous competitors. The dim sum is fresh, hot and much better than what we ever get anywhere on the west coast of the state. Dont miss the coconut-peanut rolls for your dessert at the end, they are simply elegant. Three specific pieces of advice. 1) Get there around 11:00 am for instant and choice seating before they get busy. 2) Pace yourself as the carts come around, dont order everything the first time the carts go by so you can get it all hot and enjoy it in small waves. 3) Enjoy your dim sum with a beer, they keep their beers just above freezing and that beverage works better with the many varieties of dim sum than any wine I could possibly recommend. Eat cheap and eat like royalty here. Youll love it.

The food was OK but Ive been to better restaurants. The place is also super expensive because a "large" plate is $4.25. And a large plate of shrimp rolls has 3 rolls, wow so big. And the x-large plate is the exact same thing, the only difference is that the x-large plate is $6.25. So ya get ready to dish out some money when youre there. But the thing that really annoyed about this place was the service. It was absolutely horrible. And they force food on to you. But the thing in the service that annoyed me the most was when one of the waiters came and asked us if were finished yet because all the employees were staring at us the whole time. This place was horrible and I would not recommend it to anyone.
