There’s no denying that Wynwood is one of the hippest and happening places in the 305, though let’s face it, options on where to imbibe are scarce. Sure, you’ve got a ton of craft beers to get you good and inebriated, but inventive proper cocktails with say a side of colossal Wagyu Cheeseburger Croquettes of Yukon Gold and Aji Amarillo to go along? Say hello to Beaker & Gray, the offspring and first solo endeavor for barkeep Ben Potts and chef Brian Nasajon. If Potts looks or sounds familiar, that’s cause the financier turned bartender and Broken Shaker and Blackbird veteran has likely made you more sweet tea vodka blackberry lemonades than you can remember. While Nasajon’s face might be a bit less recognizable, if you once upon a time dined at Lure’s flagship in New York or at Sushi Samba Miami Beach (where he was executive chef) then you’ve unknowingly tasted his culinary prowess. Together the two are bringing something fun and approachable to the Miami Arts District’s eclectic and youthful crowd. Since opening on the heels of last year’s Art Basel, we’ve been asked countless times what our thoughts on Beaker & Gray are, to which we embarrassingly had never been to…till now. You know what they say: better 11 months later than never, right? Good news is we can personally vouch for Beaker & Gray as a solid happy hour ($5 old fashioneds and Moscow mules, anyone?) and casual dinner date spot, as well as a lively bar with cocktails you won’t be able to sip anywhere else in Wynwood like the Lavagave, which mixes Don Julio Blanco and Fidencio Mezcal with Lavender, Egg Glair, Grapefruit, and Vanilla Bitters. Disclaimer: sip with caution. With a menu featuring 20 plus libations, Beaker & Gray is mixing, shaking, and stirring bevvies for every spirit drinker and flavor preference, from herbaceous and tart to bitter and smoky. Comestibles are equally as diverse, taking inspiration from global flavors and putting otherwise unexpected twists on a classic Wellington (with its puff pastry taking a pastelito type twist and rather than filet packing wagyu brisket). There’s also a Cuban Sandwich reimagined, packing pork belly and watermelon rind between plantain brioche. Papas Bravas have been toned down and given a rocoto and pesto treatment instead. Mochi, wait for it, Bacalao Scotch Bonnet isn’t a sweet ending but instead a salty and spicy starter. Brown Sugar, Sesame, Salt and Vinegar Chicken Wings are finger and bone licking good. Can’t decide or want them all? A chef’s whim family meal or tasting menu (customizable depending on dietary preferences) lets Nasajon do all the cooking and choosing for you. We especially loved the vibrant and piquant Baby Beets, doused in strained velvety Yogurt and finished with Key Lime and Pistachio for nice nuttiness. And if you’re on the eliminating as much beef from your diet tip after watching Before The Flood‘s world premiere Sunday night like we are, you’ll be pleased to know Beaker & Gray is dishing out plenty of plants and seafood like Wild Mushrooms with Nashi Pear, Butternut Squash, and Apple Cider; Spanish Octopus with Cilantro and Watermelon; Black Kale with Almonds, Rainier Cherry, and Black Radish; Risotto with Tiger Shrimp, Mustard Seed, Banana and Watercress; and Whole Local Fish with pickled and smoked Paprika. Meaning you don’t have to give up going out indulging in a good time so long as you’re mindful about what you’re consuming.

OK! Where do I start? I called in advance to make a reservation with Ben for 15 people plus kids. They never told me that they had a time limit before they will give away my table. They never told me that they had no high chair and that I had a time limit to eat. 1 couple from my table got to the restaurant late and they prohibited them from ordering food. When I was ready for dessert they told me that I was not aloud to order dessert because there was people waiting for the table. IN WHAT RESTAURANT THEY DO THAT???? I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THAT IN MY LIFE!!!! That was the worst customer service I have had from a restaurant in my life. They have being open for a week or so and they already treating customers that way. I would not recommend that restaurant to anyone. Is a shame! BTW. I was only 15 minutes late. NO BIG DEAL! Welcome to Miami Beaker and Gray. NO ONE IS ON TIME!!!!

This restaurant just opened and what a welcome addition to the Wynwood scene. Firstly, the decor is wonderful. Everything is tasteful and welcoming. The kitchen is open to the dining area which is always reassuring. The bar is large and complete with specialty cocktails by Ben Potts. Theres a lounge area next to the bar which would be a great place to being a date. The food is tapas style in that the dishes are smaller, designed for sharing and come as soon as they are ready. It was a lot of fun to share with the whole table. I was in a group of 10 and I think we ordered every dish on the menu!! Each one had something interesting and unexpected flavor wise. I spoke to the chef who was very kind and also eager to hear any suggestions we had about the food and the experience. Overall, I had a great experience. This restaurant shows that food in Miami is finally getting good!

This place has a really neat modern industrial vibe going on, but the noise levels are a bit high. The service was excellent, our waiter was there almost immediately any time we wanted him, and never came at a bad time or interrupted us. The menu has a chefs whim option which lets you choose a price from $14-$40 and optionally choose the protein, and the chef will just make something not on the menu. As a creative myself, I know that I do my best work when I have the most freedom, so giving the chef free reign we opted for the $40 option. It was a spectacular two part entree with a steak and potato portion bursting with flavor paired with a delicious halibut in a flavorful sauce. The waiter was very knowledgeable and explained everything about the dish for us.

Popped in here Xmas morning for breakfast. Dishes were pretty good and service started out great but then fell off with a long wait for the check. There was also a very confusing parking situation were the valet chased out out of the parking telling us that it was for VIP diners (even though the place was dead). We had to go around the corner and park on the street. This wouldnt have been a huge issue except that we were from out of town and had to spend 15 minutes downloading and sign up for their parking system before we could leave the vehicle. When we asked inside they said we could have parked in front and that the valet company had been telling people that for a while but it wasnt true. Get Co trol of your staff!

Ok, what are tasty words that all mean AWESOME So between Fraser and Johnny, you will be more than cared for. These guys know how to not only make a drink.. but make magic in a glass! I wont even talk about the food (do tiny plates that are amazing each and every one - just saying).... you need to come to this odd area of town! You wont be disappointed! Tell them Lori from Joes sent you and ask for Fraser and Johnny! We didnt have one bad drink or bad taste on our palates all night long! Yes, make sure you are good with valet parking or have the parking app downloaded, but you will end up staying longer than you expected regardless. Did i mention to say "tell them Lori from Joes sent you"? ;)
