My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant in hopes to find a new spot to frequent. A pro is there is a parking lot for the restaurant itself which is convenient seeing how its in the busy part of gulfport and the bread loaf is "interesting". Now for the cons: When we walked in, the restaurant smelled like a thrift store which was slightly off-putting since we were there to eat. Pretty much the whole restaurant was empty and the hostess took about 5 minutes to walk around to find a seat for us (we did make reservations). We were placed in the back room in the corner next to the speaker which had very loud music to where our waiter mentioned how loud it was and said he would turn it down but never did. All of the tables had large plates in each spot which made no room for the plates brought to the table, not to mention there was food stuck to my plate but luckily I never used it. I love sauerbraten and I was excited to see that they had it on the menu. it was $22 so I was expecting to get a larger portion then I received. The entree said that it would come with vegetables, a starch, and a salad. I had asked if there was an up-charge for getting a soup instead of a salad and he said he would not charge me if thats what I wanted. My boyfriend also got an entree which said it came with a salad bit he did not receive on when I got my soup (lobster bisque which was awful) and the waiter said "oh did you want a salad?" The waiter did not give us an option to choose any of the sides in the entree. When we received the entree is had a very small scoop of rice, an even smaller scoop of red cabbage and sauerkraut with 2 slices of carrots that were soaked in marachino cherries. Was not filling nor tasty. When the check came the soup was on the it so we had to let the waiter know and he said that the hostess didnt know and he will let her know to take it off. The hostess and waiter were helping us back and forth throughout the experience so Im not surprised there was little communication. Thank goodness we had a Groupon so we didnt pay as much as we would have. All in all it was not a pleasant experience and we will not be going back again. Would not recommend. Also the picture advertised on Groupon of the food is misleading. They do not even have lamb/pork chops on the menu and the atmosphere has an extremely different vibe.

I called La Cote Basque in the afternoon to confirm their hours, as we had a 35-minute drive to this location with our family after work. Self-identified owner stated the close time of 10pm on the phone. My family and I arrived at 8:45pm to a restaurant with all of the lights on, patrons inside, OPEN sign up on the door marked ENTRANCE with hours posted clearly with 10pm close time and the light-up neon OPEN sign lit up brightly in the window. We waited 15 more minutes as patrons and wait staff watched us from the window. No one came to open the door for us. The cook came from the parking lot clearly high on drugs and we inquired about the locked door. He mumbled and stuttered something about 9:30 or 9:45pm but we couldnt make it out because he was under the influence of a substance that we could not identify, as his eyes were glassy as well. He stumbled on the sidewalk trying to talk but we could not understand this man who is clearly the restaurants cook with his labeled apron and hat on. We called the restaurant to receive a busy signal. We called again and the self-identified owner answered this time. He stated that they were no longer serving customers and hung up. I called from the car to ask why they closed an hour and a half early and identified myself as the individual who called in the afternoon and spoke with him regarding their hours. This man now opened the door to let his cook back inside but we were not welcomed. The cook and the owner both appeared to be high on a drug of some sort by their appearance, behavior and demeanor. The owner is an average height tan male with shoulder-length curly brown hair, the hostess is a short dark-haired tan young woman with glasses and the cook is a short tan man with many teeth missing. I was upset about this service to say the least but La Cote Basque is clearly a filthy and poorly-run business with drugs inside. We wasted an hour and a half driving to and from what seemed to be a very nice restaurant only to be denied service more than an hour before closing. I will contact Groupon about our experience and spread the word, as this is a very unsafe environment for children and adults.

I have been going here with my sister for the last 7 years and food is always delicious. I like the elegant modern look it has, and the decorations are lovely. It is very unusual to see a resturaunt like this, which is unique. I like the staff, they are all family, and they always appreciate your business. I would have to say that reviews dont explain what this restaurant has to offer, you have to go in, and see whats inside. Also, if you ever have an issue let them know, they take care of their guest really well. Its really inexpensive for such great food, because you can always find there dinner coupons everywhere. Everything is freshly cooked and they always work with my allergies. They bought me Gulten Free Cake just for our get together, because I requested it. If thats not outstanding customer service, well I dont know what is. The business has been here for over 40 years. If you have any trouble with your dinner or service, let them know! Also, I have to note, if you dont like something a certain way(I am a picky eater as well), see what they can do, nothing is pre made.

Lucky to find them open for dinner on Christmas even if the menu was limited to three pretty traditional holiday meals. First off I have to say the place has a cozy craziness to the decor, Lots of lamp shades and red and heavy looking chairs and beautiful hand painted murals. We both ordered duck. The other choices for entree were turkey and ham. The garden salad that came ahead of it was kind of predictable but better than most with a lot of the leafy greens were all trying to get into our diets, and the dressing a little sweet but good if used sparingly instead of being dumped on. Heres the important part. The duck was perfect and I couldnt finish it. It was surrounded with a great variety of root veggies roasted or braised, and other vegetables like steamed string beans, all really great. Coffee and a shared creme brulee (also very nicely done and presented with fresh whipped cream on top. Love this place and the quaint little village of Gulfport that well surely come back to so we can look around more

Decor: old, dated, dirty, religious artifacts Service: slow, not very professional Way overpriced. My spaetzle were completely over salted, carrots drenched in amaretto, cabbage over seasoned. Frog legs were dry and covered in garlic. Dont get me wrong, I love garlic, but this was to the point where your eyes were burning from the smell (once you tasted it your tongue as well). Salad was limp and not fresh, served with some sort of mayo dressing and a side of bug crawling out of it! Once we told our waiter all he did was bring out a new dinner plate - no apology and left us the salad the bug came out of!! When I ordered another glass of wine the waiter came out with a fresh glass filled with wine, which he proceeded to pour into my dirty used glass!!! Oh and they add gratuity to your check (no signs or warnings on the menu or anywhere), I wonder why!!! Very expensive and serving very low grade food. Left there hungry and with a stomach ache. What a waste of money.
