My wife fell in love with this place immediately. Weve been to France - several times - and eaten at French restaurants in NYC, among other places, and this place was quaint, and had a very homey, romantic feel that is impossible to appreciate from the online pictures. As for the food - everything was wonderful! I will caveat and say that I went out on a limb and had the quail, which was a bit like a very tasty, over sized chicken wing, but I wanted to "branch out". Next time, Ill stick with what I know. Either way, the dishes are excellent and my wifes fillet was delicious and the service was fantastic. I think one of the owners waited on us and she was so nice! We will be back!

This is one of the best gems in Old town Alexandria. Everytime I go, I have just a wonderful time. Delicious wine, and great service. Plus, the food is literally to die for!!! I cant rave enough about how delicious the food is. Everything I have had there is sooo good. The french onion soup with tons of cheese!!! The french bread! The crab mushrooms, the escargot, the salads, the mussels, and dont even get me started on the entrees. The filet with brandy peppercorn sauce and au gratin potatoes, the salmon en crut , the beef wellington...it doesnt matter what you get there you will enjoy it!! Bon Appetit!!

Our first time to visit, based on the Washington Post magazine write-up on the escargot. The escargot was worth the trip along, not your traditional escargot, but with a veal reduction and tomotoes that were fabulous. We were initially seated near the door to the kitchen, but were soon moved to a table by the window so we could be more comfortable (all without us asking to be moved). The service was also outstanding, which made the entire visit one to remember.

This place is a hidden gem. The atmosphere is quaint, the service is good, and the food is delicious. We started with the crab stuffed mushroom caps - they were delightful. I had the goat cheese and pepper stuffed quail for my main course and truly enjoyed it. My husband finished his meal with the chocolate mousse cake which was very tasty - I think it had a slight hint of almond. Ill definitely come back to try out more of the menu.

The restaurant that time forgot--and thats not so bad. The first thing you notice is that this cozy place looks like it would fit right in somewhere in France. The menu isnt adventuresome, but the well-prepared classics are why people come here. Clams casino were tasty, the scallops were huge and succulent on a bed of crushed tomatoes. The 3 cold soups (cucumber, gazpacho, and a dreamy red pepper) were perfect for a hot summer day.

Like others have said...What a Gem! Ive been coming here for years! Ive always had a great experience. The friendly staff literally make you feel like family as they invite you to their home. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu but my two favorite dishes are the "Filet De Porc au Rocquefort" or the "Fillet de Boeuf Wellington". When you go here make sure you leave room for dessert and have the PROFITEROLES!!!

Im going to echo many of the reviewers below. We really had a fantastic time here with both the service and the food. I had the Filet de Boeuf sauce Roquefort (Filet Mignon in a creamy Roquefort sauce) . My friend ordered the profiteroles for dessert and it was phenomenal! If you need a place to impress your date and you two are in the mood for French Cuisine, this is the place to be!

Disappointing. Looking forward to the frog legs and champagne cocktail. Neither were good. Actually left part of the meal. My friend had quiche and said it was ok but not great. She liked her house salad. Expensive for the quality of food. When leaving saw a woman eating choc. mousse cake and sauce which looked very good. Should have had that instead of the meal.

“Happy Hour in the Lounge” Spent a lovely evening enjoying the vibe of the lounge at Vermilion. We caught the end of happy hour and enjoyed several lite bites off the happy hour menu. Nice selection of craft beers and wines. The lounge menu offered several interesting choices including a very spicy chicken sandwich worth trying. Relaxing atmosphere, great service.

Went to Old Town to see the lights and decorations. We had a few restaurants in mind but did not make any reservations. When we went by Le Refuge it just felt right. Small, intimate and eclectic. The menu had many true French cuisine dishes (Frog Legs and Escargot) but was extensive enough for seafood and meat lovers as well....

Just a wonderful little place in Old Town. The food is magnificent, service is very good, atmosphere is enchanting. Ive been there three times: Maryland Crab best Ive ever had. scallops scrumptious, chicken with creamy mustard sauce ever-so-yummy. Coq a vin I did not have it but tasted my daughters..really, really good.

A simply great place to eat wonderful food. My wife and I dropped in for lunch, we were not disappointed. This is the relaxed, comfortable French spot weve been looking for. After a delicious meal, and a few glasses of wine, we never felt better as we strolled around Old Town. We will be coming back soon.

even the restaurant was two third empty it took over 20 minutes for the owner to get to our table. Her first impression was (why the hell did you come hear tonight do not you see I am tired and had enough of this place) food was old, overprice, and goat chees made us seek. Will not go back nor recommended.

Wonderful!! Ive been bringing friends here for several years and everyone loves the food, atmosphere, and service. Spinach salad, french onion soup and quiche are the best. All is very, very good. Prices are not that expensive compared to other local restaurant. My favorite place in Old Towne.

My wife and I drive down from Pennsylvania just to eat here. The onion soup is, without doubt, the best weve ever had. In fact, weve never had a bad meal. The decor is dated, and the interior will not easily accomodate a crowd, but the food makes the experience a pleasure, always.

Beautiful inner space in what appears to the outside to be an office complex. Lovely array of beers and a terrific menu. Attentive staff, offering small tastes of beers in order to allow your informed decision. Great gift shop, as well. A real dining experience!!!

Just love this place! The Beef Wellington is a favorite and the crab stuffed mushroom caps are a meal in themselves. Terrific food, cozy atmosphere... a trip to a french village for dinner. Very cool!

Amazing gazpacho (cold) soups. Homemade with fresh ingredients. The specials change daily and are delightfully well prepared. Go with an appetite. Enjoy sitting inside or outside (limited space).

Nice, quaint atmosphere ... great service ... terrific food and wine. A small slice of "France" in Alexandria VA. Our party of 3 had a good time ... and well do again, sometime soon.
