Most importantly, the food was flavorless. We chose this restaurant for pre Marine Corps Marathon carb loading because the reviews were so good. They only offer three wines by the glass which are listed quickly when asked. I has the Chianti and it was flat. Clearly trying to force you to a bottle purchase. We started with the the bruschetta which was clumsily prepared and lacking. Tomatoes were mealy and the bread was overly doughy. The cheese was the highlight of the night. I had one of the specials, seafood linguine with scallpps, shrimp, mussels and squid in tomato sauce. Almost all of the seafood was overcooked and chewy. The pasta tasted like it had been sitting in water all night. Tomato sauce was thin and watery. My husband had the penne with sausage and while the sausage tasted good he had the same complaints about the pasta and sauce. It then took fifteen minutes to get our check. We left highly disappointed.

While on a business trip to DC I decided to check out Otello based on other reviewers advice. The food was certainly good enough, however if youre dining alone you might want to find a different spot. From the rolling of the waiters eyes when I told him I didnt want to order any appetizer, to the out-loud sighing when I told him that I wouldnt be ordering a bottle of wine it was a fairly uncomfortable experience. It was a dead Wednesday night, only a couple of others were there. And, oddly enough, they were also dining alone. I was leaving at the same time as another diner and we had a brief conversation about the place as we exited. It turned out his experience was pretty much the same as mine. It might be a great place for families like another reviewer pointed out, but for dining solo you might want to check out the Luna Grill, right down the street instead.

The waiters STEAL, The food was meh but for 10$ for a basic Caesar salad and the seafood "special" for 28$ I have had WAY better. Hell Carmines doesnt charge this much for what you get. The waiter up sold me and when I gave him a short tip (which turned out to be a good thing.) They charged my card 6 EXTRA dollars. So I had to go all the way up and get my money. The sad part is , the waiter ( instead of apologizing) to me said "Just so you know, we dont get paid by the hour, we get paid by our tips".....umm I DONT CARE you dont steal from customers. And with other reviews this is not uncommon. AVOID THIS PLACE you will not miss a thing. I went by myself as I love trying out new restaurants but be warned.

While visiting DC my friend and I had dinner here. The atmosphere was very cozy and quiet. The food was amazingly authentic and the service was second to none. It was quite busy and the only table available was for two but located directly inside the front door. We were seated there only momentarily when our waiter moved us to a much better table near a window. This restaurant is an amazing date night spot!

This place is wonderful and reasonably priced. I love the atmosphere...You could have a nice date or a family meal here. The staff is wonderful...They are always so friendly and will take a second to make you laugh even if it is a busy night. They have a number of yummy, authentic Italian dishes. -Great Appetizers and save room for desert! I am heading there for dinner tonight and I cant wait! :)

Great hidden Italian Restaurant that we tried after looking for something kid-friendly, affordable, and within walking distance. Place has been around for over 30 years. Roberto our waiter was excellent! Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and even better food. Wine selection was limited but overall we were very pleased and will be coming back/recommending in the future!

Classic Italian fare with a minimum of frills. This place has been here forever, I used to go back in the 90s. Red checkered tablecloth and a menu of Italian favorites. Nice location in Dupont Circle and a friendly wait staff. My wife had the tortellini with cream sauce which was good if a little heavy. My veal was tender and tasty.

Fully authentic Italian selection. THE BEST pasta recipes in town. I find myself extremely picky when it comes to Italian food and this place blew me Away. Prices are very nice especially for the quality of food and service . This place should charge a fortune . I will defiantly stop here on my next trip to Washington dc.

There are plenty of family Italian restaurants in central New Jersey, but none compares to this in atmosphere, service, or food quality. Ate alone; slow night; Rigatoni Napolitana (sausage, meatballs, spinach, tomatoes, black olives) gently spiced so all flavors come out. Servers friendly and attentive, not pushy.

The food was AMAZING. Both my husband and I LOVED our meals. I ordered spaghetti and wish I would have ordered a whole extra portion so I could have had it all over again. It is rare to order spaghetti and LOOOOOVE it, but it was incredible. Seriously. This place is a must.

Great, absolutely great chicken parmesan. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. They let me substitute spinach in place of the pasta; it was tender and fluffy and great. I get here because of business about once a year, I will definitely be back.

Very, very good food. Was a bit chaotic inside and took some time to get the check but the staff was nice. We had capellini and gnocchi for dinner and prosciutto and melon as an app. Delicious. Im Italian, so Im picky, and the food was perfect.

Ive been dining here for almost 14 years. It is the BEST italian food you can get in the DC area hands down!!!!! The crab linguine is sooooo good. I get the food to go to to take home with me to Maryland. Try it you wont be disapointed.

Would definitely recommend it. Ambiance is as others have described it but the food was very good. Very friendly staff - owner came by a few times to see that we were ok. Catered to the kids as well as us. -A
