Clarendon Ballroom patrons aside, the worst part is the staff. They range from rude to criminal. The last time I was there my friend was assaulted because he didnt hear the bouncer say you couldnt take drinks upstairs. Literally he was hit, pulled backwards down the stairs, and had his shirt ripped when a tap on the shoulder would have worked (hes about 1/2 the size of the bouncer). When I tried to get the bar tenders attention to complain he flipped me off. Fortunately I found the bar manager who was polite in the sense that he was not rude. But his business card listed his job as "Adult Babysitter." With that kind of attitude at the top, it is no wonder that the staff behave like bullies. Only go there if you are used to college bars where they treat you like a child, and you want to tell people youve been to U Street without actually going there.

Saint Ex is not a safe place. My girlfriend and I had a horrible experience here and the worst part is that security were the ones responsible. This happened on Sunday, April 15, 2017. My girlfriend and I were having our last drink of the night when suddenly someone undid the knot on the back of her dress. We quickly identified the guy. He was wearing the same clothes as the bouncers telling us to get out and making very specific hand gestures as if undoing a knot. We look for security and tell them what happened but all they did was cover for themselves calling us racists for no reason, being very sexists against my girl, and not letting me speak so they could take advantage of her vulnerability. That day it was just my girlfriends shirt, tomorrow it might be something much worse.

Saint-Ex has been an good well rounded eats. It has the brunch, lunch and dinner. It has sort of an electric menu that should satisfy anyone in the party. Although the lunch is basically an abridge version of the dinner menu. The cocktails are an interesting mix. I tried the Up on the night I was there. in the Air Dinner time the lighting can be a little dark for those that are eye challenged. The comfy bar like interior isnt so noisy and I like the high top tables. Service is good but can be a bit slow depending upon how crowded it is. If you arent in too much of hurry then it should be fine. Dinner should be a casual affair. Everyone is always in a rush these days anyway. Ive never ventured downstairs so cant tell you much about it other than lots of umps, umps, umps...

I went to this bar last Saturday night and had the terrible experience of having my shirt untied twice by a guy who thought it was OK for him to decide when to undress me. At the beginning I thought he was a bouncer at the place because he was telling me to leave and was wearing a black shirt (security here wears black shirts with nothing in the front, so I couldnt really distinguish). I tried to complain to the bars security staff and they tried to call me racist because the person who happened to untie my shirt was black. Anyway, their personnel treated me really bad and even tried to say that I was high when I was only asking for help because I was mistreated at their bar. That is not how you keep your customers safe.

We had a good time but... the food was just ok...it has gone down hill a bit. I ordered a special vodka and it was the wrong one...The Salmon tasted good but the presentation, portion size, and the quality of the entire plate was severely lacking...I tasted the scallops, they were good but the mussels were not fresh. Typical for DC seafood not fresh. I must say the scallops were perfectly cooked and the morels were awesome. And all the staff has a negative attitude...like a permanent scowl..I loved the interior and the tables are my favorite...heavy marble table tops..perfect..that was the highlight of my evening @ Saint ex feeling and staring at the marble table tops. lol

This is my goto spot for that 10:30-12:30 range. The upstairs bar is clean, well decorated, and has a good bar feel. People talk and hang out, but they all know why they came...The basement. This place is one of my favorite places to cut loose and cut some rug. They recently did a remodel of the basement so it is now industrial cooled. There are also a few more lights here and there. There was something romantic when sweat dripped down the walls and the only lights were from the doorway down, the DJ booth, and the bar....but those times are passed.

If you judge by what you see on their website you might be fooled into thinking this place is a posh cafe. Its very much a BAR. Its fairly loud -- especially downstairs. This is a place where you go with friends for beers and some good pub food, not for a quiet intimate dinner. That said, its a really fun atmosphere & the staff is very friendly/welcoming, but tend to be more informal & laid back than most places. Good food and strong drinks. I would say this is a "neighborhood place" that seems to be geared towards locals.

I spent a few nights in my early twenties in the sweaty, dark, kinda-creepy-dance-party basement at Cafe St-Ex, so I was surprised to find out that this place actually serves brunch. And it turned out to be a decent brunch at that! I had the Fried Green Tomato BLT, which had a perfectly cooked tomato on it, with bottomless mimosas. Would love to go back now that its nice out an enjoy their prime people-watching patio on 14th street.

Last night was my first and the last night in this establishment. My coat, phone and credit card were stolen and when i tried to contact the police so that i could report it the bouncer assaulted me and the bar manager just stood there... When i called the GM today he told me that he does not care about what had happenned and if i have a problem i need to take it out with the police department.

This is a nice spot for happy hour and at night the basement turns into a decent place to dance. Near the U street corridor, it is conveniently located too. There is limited seating for dining though. Service is excellent. I was there for a happy hour, and they made an extra burger. Server asked if we wanted it, and they gave it to us for free.

I had the homemade seafood pasta for $19. the portion wasnt large for the orice, but it did taste excellent! For dessert we shared a peach gallet, which was almost to die for, if only the pastry had been real galette pastry, and not (store bought?) puff pastry. Service wasnt incredible, and all considered it doesnt deserve more than 3 stars.

Stopped in with some friends for a quick bite before a show at 9:30 Club. Above average, attentive service, good beer selection, solid drinks. Food was quite good (burgers, steaks, sides and dessert). Atmosphere was very enjoyable, a little tight on the seating, but good vibe and not too loud/quiet. Would definitely go back

Worst drink I have ever ordered. Vodka Sprite that was literally water and the bar tender paid no attention at all to boot. I understand being a single guy at the bar provides little to no interest to a bartender but you could at a minimum poor a halfway decent drink or good service. Sincerely, Disappointed sober customer
