Lovely place but disappointed : ( Have wanted to try this restaurant for the longest time. Had a groupon type voucher which was due to expire, so yesterday I took a family member who is like a mother to me there in celebration of her 75th birthday. She has church activities Sunday evenings so Dinner which begins at 4 was out of the question. Therefore we opted for an afternoon "Birthday Brunch". The historic home as well as the room we dined in were lovely. The woman I spoke with when making the reservation was extremely nice, the service was fine, and the food was good (though nothing grand IMO). However, I was very disappointed that although the reservationist made special note that we were there in honor of a birthday, nothing was made mention or done to help make it special in any way. I was hoping that if nothing else, they could at least put a candle in a muffin or atop her fruit salad or even just mention the occasion to wish her a happy birthday. I could tell she was very disappointed and as we left she commented that it didnt feel anything like a birthday. I felt bad about that and will definitely find another place to take her over the next few weeks to make it up to her. Last year we celebrated her birthday over brunch at The Milton Inn (also on a groupon) and they made the event so very special. We enjoyed it so much that we have dined there for brunch at least 15 times since as well as 2 holidays with out of town friends and family. Was so hoping that Elkridge Furnace would live up to The Milton Inn as it is much closer than driving to Sparks and so similar to the type of restaurant I prefer .... traditional/French upscale food, in a timeless historic setting. Although I would love to try one of their scheduled High Teas, Im not sure Id ever choose this again for a special occasion.

Got there and felt a bit underdressed--this is a bit of a fancy place. I agree with a previous reviewer that none of the staff cracked a smile ever--I dont know if thats part of the snooty atmosphere, or if they were displeased to have customers. First, the water they poured me had a dead black ant in it. They apologized and brought out a new glass. No biggie. We split an appetizer, soup and salad, which were all very good. The main entrees came out and my companion had a dime-sized dead spider in his plate hanging off a scallion! I totally lost my appetite at that point. Ill bet you the scallion had never been washed. The staff was very apologetic...but thats it. No price reduction or offer of free dessert or anything. I guess we could have waited another 30 minutes for them to bring out a replacement entree, but my companion went ahead with the meal. I spent the rest of the meal scrutinizing my food for vermin. I eat out often and have never experienced anything like this. Its too bad I wont be returning here since most of the food was pretty good up to that point.

What an outstanding experience in an otherwise repetitive and pedestrian Maryland restaurant scene. Service is attentive without being obtrusive. The menu offers a reasonable breadth of selection for all tastes without resorting to the usual "See how many different ways we can serve Blue Crab" that is typical of most dining in this state. Indeed, this may be the only restaurant in the state that understands what an amuse-bouche is, let alone serve a complimentary one! The wine list like the menu, has a good deal of breadth without being cumbersome. The person(s) responsible for this list has a clear understanding of wine and its vital place in fine dining. Any restaurant with the knowledge and courage to have a Banyuls on their list will always get extra points from me. When youre ready to move from the typical and try a true restaurant experience in Maryland, make your reservation at the Elkridge Furnace Inn. You may never want to go anywhere else again.

I usually drive to DC to find good quality food as I am a DC native and there isnt much for quality restaurants close-by Hanover/Arundel Mills where I live. I decided to give this place a try because my visiting in-laws did not want to drive far for breakfast. Between the four of us, we tried a total of 8 things on the Sunday brunch menu(4apps, 4entrees). EVERYTHING I ate absolutely exceeded my expectations. The complimentary pastry basket offered a variety of fresh and delicious items. We all enjoyed the "Old Town" appearance and ambiance especially since the place looks and smells clean and well kept. I am moving away soon and sad that I found this place only today. I would say the food is top 5 if not top 3 of restaurants I have eaten. Clearly, I highly recommend it. : ) and for just $28 per guest we absolutely got our moneys worth on portion size and quality crab meat. Please stay consistent! I look forward to dining in again before I leave the area. :)

We eat here once or twice a year, primarily to celebrate special occasions. The wait staff and maitre d are always very personable, courteous and professional. When weve taken our kids (12, 9) the staff goes out of their way to accommodate them. We have never experienced the snootiness other reviewers have mentioned. On the contrary, the staff can have a tendency to be quite casual and familiar. The service and attention to the diners is excellent without being overbearing. Twice on our anniversary, without any advanced notice, they have served our dessert on a platter with Bonne Anniversaire written in chocolate, and once even gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne. The food is always exceptional, and the fine dining environment is as nice as any Ive seen in metropolitan restaurants. Combined with the historic building and beautifully landscaped grounds, this restaurant is always a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

We have been in the Elkridge Furnace Inn during our last 2 days in the U.S. before returning to Frankfurt. (August, 2013) After a trip from Manhattan back to the BWI we were looking for good non-fast food restaurant. Finally we found on the map in our hotel room near BWI the Elkridge Inn. I was in company with my wife an 2 kids 7+10 yrs. I called in order to reserve a table and I was informed that there was a wedding party that evening. We were very surprised of the charming atmosphere. After a short time we were "identified" as tourists and the Manager Mr Stishan (I suppose) welcomed us at the table. He was very interested in the fact that tourists visited the Elkridge Inn and was very nice. By the way: the meal was delicious and the price was appropriated to the quality. The price was almost the same as in Luxembourg. (without tip). Next time in Baltimore we will certainly visit the Elkridge Furnace Inn again.

I absolutely LOVE this place! I went with some people from work. I had the Cream of Crab soup which was most likely the best Ive ever had. LOTS of crab meat and the soup wasnt too thick or starchy. For my meal I had the Quail (Stuffed with crab meat and corn meal) , Veg Puree and Kale. The portions are perfect and it was neatly presented. I cannot wait to go back again! I cant decide if I even want to get the same thing or switch it up because my meal was so good! I also took a dessert to go- A Pecan Tart (Basically a slice of Pecan Pie). It was delicious and not too sweet. Its also neat because the Owner is the Chef; the owners wife is a hostess and walks around to the tables to talk to each table once throughout their meal and the daughter is the pastry chef. Anyway, this is clearly one of my favorite places to eat!
