Bolt Burger is a quick service quality burger restaurant similar to Five Guys out Shake Shack, in both both are just a few blocks away. They are similar in price (more expensive than fast food) and similar in food (primarily burgers, fries and shakes). However, in my opinion, while I find Five Guys and Shack Shake to be mostly equal in taste (Shake Shack has slightly better burgers, but Five Guys has much better fries), Bolt Burger had much better burgers (at least on my one visit). Bolt gives you the choice of Angus beef, turkey burger, chicken or veggie burger, so you have more choices. They also give you the choice of fries, onion rings or crunchy green beans. And, they add chicken nuggets as a kids meal option (but no hot dog). And, they have shakes and smoothies, and adults will like the option to add vodka or rum to their shake or smoothie! The burger gives you a lot of customizing options like Shake Shack and Five Guys, maybe not as many, but you have more cheese options and even a fries egg option. They also make their own ketchups and mustard and other sauces, while also offering name brands if you prefer. They also have their own source blends. I purchased the make your own burger, and it was thick and juicy, well seasoned and hot. My wife ordered the signature burger, which she tells me was the best burger shes ever had (sadly they didnt put bacon on it, even though shes ordered it). My kids got a chicken nugget kids ball and a grilled cheese kids meal. They both finished their entrees without fussing, which is an amazing feet for them and speaks of how good it was (I tried a bit l bite of each and can confirm). The kids meals came with fries and a drink, I ordered my own fries and my wife ordered onion rings. She loved the onion rings. The kids fries were large enough that I did not need to order any. The fries were typical restaurant fries, good enough, but didnt match the quality of the rest of the food (Five Guys wins here). We also ordered a chocolate shake, which was just as good as any quality shake (Chick-Fil-a, Shake Shack, Five Guys level, not a cheap McDonalds one). They also have two Coke Freestyle machines, which are nice for all the options! The design of the restaurant could use work. When you walk in there is a hostess station and ordering screens. This backs up the entrance, as u cant get around if people are waiting or ordering at that screen. If you want to order at the counter, then you have to walk by this area to get back to your table. Its just a bottleneck that should be redesigned. Thankfully they bring the food to you, so you wont be going by here with a tray full of food. Since the prices can add up quick, I recommend that if getting a kids meal ($6-7 each), there kids fries will be enough to share with their parent. That will save you $3.50 per very l fry. Overall, breast burger place around, if they improve the fries, then dont even consider any other burger place!

The food is certainly tasty, but its very expensive- not worth the price when Five Guys and Shake Shack (or even the more comparable Black & Orange) offer good enough food for half the price. If Im going to pay $20 for a basic meal, Im at least going to expect a burger thats the size of my outstretched hand and already comes with fries+drink; not a typical fast-food style portion without any extras. That said: I got the Angus beef Bad Hombre, fries w/ toasted peppercorn+herb and herb+mustard, and a Mango Passion smoothie. The total was $20.34, but I had a $10 gift card -- bringing my total down to what I would have *expected* to pay. The burger was very good, but I reiterate that for the price: the portion size just didnt match up. Taste-wise I felt it comparable to Black & Orange. I liked the fries, but again: I felt like the price and quantity just didnt match. But while Five Guys might fill an entire bag for a "small", Ill give that these fries were certainly better than Five Guys. And the seasoning & mustard combo was great, but nothing compared to Good Stuff Eaterys fries & condiments. The smoothie was the most overwhelming in price: $6.00 -- I could get a huge tub from Smoothie King for that much. It was decent, but it seemed like over-processed poured-out-of-a-carton variety that wasnt worth even close to that price. Service was impeccable: everyone was very friendly, though it did take about 10 minutes for my food to arrive even though it wasnt busy in the slightest. But sometimes that delay isnt so bad (and its certainly faster than Shake Shack) ... it just wasnt what I was expecting at a seeming fast food joint. It did seem odd that they have a hostess, though- felt like a particularly unnecessary job, and Id sat there wondering how much cheaper the food could be if that position wasnt there, and whether itd be substantial enough to make me feel like theres any better value. I liked the environment -- decent enough for a fast food burger joint, with big TV screens showing the Caps game (which ended in a surprising overtime loss). One note: ADA access is slightly hidden along Mass Ave, but its there. Random side-note but handy to know: soda options are available via those fancy automated Coke machines, so plenty of options (but never any birch beer in those... grr).

So I have been working across the street from this spot since Feb in the beginning it was a great spot to go grab something quick to eat reasonable prices in all.....Since that time I have watched the one particular item that kept me coming back to the burger joint there (crispy fried green beans)go from being batter then fried to perfection to looking like some one was too lazy to change the batter so its watery looking and leave you with a green bean that looks like someone has crushed up some corn flakes and sprinkled them on hot greenbeans......now I know what I was being served in the beginning when I was new to this spot but now just from that 1 item and the response i received from the manager on site at the time James was the batter looked watery because its mixed with another type of batter due to there distributor not having the kind that they normally use......do I like a damn fool to you......when I asked the girl who rung me up is my food supposed to look like that she had the nerve to tell me yes as if I didnt send that same item back a time before because of the same reason and they fixed it and my next serving was cooked correctly........i cant deal with lazy service......wont get my Lil coins anymore......

Me and my wife went to Washington D.C to celebrate New Year 2017 on the 31st but she wasnt feeling so well so we ended up trying to find a place at 10 pm to get her a tea. We went to Bolt and the guy was very courteous and extremely nice and he handed us menus and told us hell take our orders whenever were ready. I felt kinda bad knowing we went there for just a cup of tea. But everything seemed very interesting, the menu, the concept, etc. so we decided to come back next morning after the excellent customer service we received. The concept for the burgers are amazing. We ordered the Earth burger, Nuggets, Fries (forgot what kinda burger my wife ordered). Everything was fresh and you could taste it. The owner I think was present in the morning and he came up to us and checked on our food as he did with the other clients that were there. Id say the burgers could be more seasoned because they tasted a little bland, but the freshness factor almost compensated for it. Overall very good food. Id still say money well spent and excellent food and service. I hope this place sticks around for a long time.
