The service was fast, the cashier and staff knew what they were doing. I came at about 10 am so the flow of customers was steady but not exceptionally busy. I got the butterkuchen and a large mocha. They were both well done; I would definitely return for the butterkuchen again. I spoke with another customer who had the ham and egg breakfast sandwich and she said it was delicious. The pricing is on par with Starbucks, but the quality is better, so I have no complaints. They have an ample amount of nicely sized tables, and can be a great place to get work done as they have plugs under the tables. Unfortunately, I am not a resident of DC, or I would definitely utilize their stamp card.

Excellent setting and location, near China Town and the National Portrait Gallery/Museum of American Art. Good internal atmosphere, fair amount of seating, combined with plenty of outlets, and relatively low traffic, so it doesnt feel too crowded or rushed. Coffee is good, above average but not exceptional, espresso drinks have a tendency to be served very hot and sometimes have a slightly burnt or scalded flavor. Pastries are exceptional, some of the best pastries in DC. Expect the price to match, however. Would recommend the butterkuchen, one of the best value pastries offered as well.

So as i am never giving one star and rather just dont make a review this time I will make change. bacon and egg sandwich was disgusting! soaking oil and burn half way. with no taste at all. I am not picky person at all i can have slice off bread with anything and its good enough. But this is just rip off!! Maybe try to use some salt and pepper next time and way less of oil. oil or butter was almost dripping from my food and wait 10 min for that? I thought they are waiting for chicken lay that egg. You can have way better food for less!

They do make good coffee and lattes. However, pastries are overpriced for what you are getting. -2 stars for the pastries. Ordered a cinnamon roll and it was too yeasty and inflated like the pricing. Maybe people here are into that but I dont think the pricing is right. Maybe $3- but $4 is not worth it. Ive had $4 pastries and this place does not make that quality. If you are in SF check out Tartine and you will most definitely agree. Go to Starbucks instead and you will get your moneys worth if you like decent pastries.

Coffee was good, pastries were fine, barista was nice, cashier was cranky. I got a general feeling from the whole of DC that I was operating altogether too slowly, but oh well. I had an apricot and custard Danish as well as a ham and Gruyere croissant. Both were fairly good. I would have liked the apricot to be more evenly spaced rather that just on the sides. I also felt the space inside the coffee shop was organized a little poorly with tables only on one side of the shop. Overall, it was better than Pauls, so...

What a cup of espresso! I try to visit local coffee shops whenever I travel and this one was excellent. We had the Einspanner, which was great, and an Americano which was also exquisite. Not a lot of food quantity available but what they do have is very good. The ham quiche was about the best I have had, and the butterknuchen pastry was light and fluffy. We were staying at the Monaco, and please skip the Poste Brasserie and head here for a light breakfast.

Chinatown has needed this coffee shop for years. Small and cozy, this place is everything you love about a bakery and a coffee shop with none of the extra frills you dont. My only complaint is I wish they sold some kind of simple cookie or small snack. All their baked goods are so fancy, I dont find them very accessible as an afternoon snack. But their chai is smooth and delicious, and they offer an array of milk options. And take note: theres no wi-fi here.

I used to be a big Pink Berry fan, but their flavors are not at the quality of Tangy Sweet. Same for Cali yogurt. Ever since I moved to Penn Quarter I have developed somewhat of a obsession with Tangy Sweet. I recommend trying their Classic and Coconut flavors. In defense of TS, I have never had an experience with uncleanliness or rude workers. I wouldnt be discouraged by the reviews here. Try it for yourself.

Sorely needed non-chain coffee and French pastries shop in bustling Chinatown neighborhood. Good drip coffee and coffee-based drinks. Pastries are of the fancy French variety, financier / tarts, brioche buns, gigantic 4" maracons are examples of what they sell. Theyve just introduced breakfast and lunch sammie options as well. Looks like the make in-house most of their items, nice to see. Come visit ;)

This is the first place I ever had Berkshire Pork. It was in the Ham and Cheese sandwich. I can never pronounce the name of the cheese. Anyhoo, this is a special treat for me since I usually dont eat meat in the morning. The Americano here is on point also. Really strange that there is a Starbucks directly across the street. Nothing against Starbucks, but I try to eat locally whenever I can.

The line can stack up quick and take a minute to get through but fear not it is worth every second. I recommend the melange (half espresso half steamed milk topped with made in house whip cream). Top it off with their famous butterkuchen (you just have to take my word on that one) and youre in heaven. Its loud so dont bring a book but then again who reads on their 15 min break anyway??

EN Really good choice for coffee lovers and enthusiasts. The times are a total highlight for District of Columbia, where is really hard to get some nice coffee after 8 or even 7 pm (depending on the region). Great option for a hot and freshly brewed coffee before riding back the subway at Metro Center station for instance. The pistachio-chocolate macaron is definitely a yes!

The owner Tracy is friendly, present and hands-on - and it shows. The staff is friendly and she treats them well. The coffee and pastries: outstanding quality. Viennese pastries made with high-quality ingredients and passion, make up a simple and reliable menu. Perfect morning or midday break. Convenient Penn Quarter location in the midst of lots to see and do. Enjoy!

No sign of yogurt or cold drinks of any kind here. The pastries are more expensive than at the Starbucks across the street, but they originated about 10 meters away and never see the inside of a cellophane package. The drip coffee is good, standard drop coffee. The Einspanner (double-shot espresso topped with fresh whipped cream) is to die for.

Petit café cool, excellent café mais, surtout, je ne pourrai jamais oublié leur pudding au pain (jen salive encore...). Oubliez Starbuck et allez les voir.

Very pretentious... played loud and offensive rap music using the"N" word, floors were very dirty, tables had trash and pieces of food all over them. Limited yogurt choices and worst of all they serve your yogurt. So for me not an actual "frozen yogurt" joint. My money well be given to SWEET FROG!!!!! Not thats frozen yogurt.

Nice place, good service... not loving it the limit your stay to 60 minutes but its okay I guess, they can have more costumers. Had athe sweetest tea ever... not a fan of drinks with too much sugar but it was okay. Good match with the cupcake place next door tho!
