Ive wandered past the diner for years. Ive always enjoyed the art and atmosphere surrounding the building; it seems very authentic. Today I finally stopped in and sat at the counter. The place was clean, and I was cheerfully greeted by the host, then by my waitress. She immediately took my drink order (orange juice) and quickly came back with a really fresh-tasting drink. The waitress let me take my time to figure out what I wanted to order, and she was there as soon as I closed the menu. Since I was sitting at the counter, I got to see everything made basically in front of me. My eggs, pancakes, and bacon were all fried up fresh and were very quick, even right in the middle of the lunch rush. When my food made its way to me, I dug in - everything was cooked perfectly. The pancakes werent as fluffy as I make them myself, but they were flavorful and soaked up the syrup perfectly. When I finished, I ordered another orange juice (as fresh and delicious as the first) and sat around doodling for a little while, as I was killing time. The staff never made a move to get me to leave, and continued being incredibly polite. When I was ready for my bill, they had it for me immediately. Overall, the service was friendly and quick, the food was delicious, classic diner fare, the environment clean, and everything was well-priced. The American City Diner will definitely see me again.

I heard about this place from a friend when I was explaining that I wanted to cap our first date with something more than just an amc theater or something "cookie-cutter" like that. (I had mentioned my date loves old films to my friend). I checked to see what was playing at ACD and when they hadnt posted their October schedule, I called and requested a film with my dates favorite actor in it. Mr. Gildenhorn worked with me and made it happen! It was incredibly awesome of him to do. Okay, so food = above average for a diner---hello, its a diner. Dont go here for michelin star chefs----its a 24/7 diner. We had a pizza, fries, and classic (in an old school 8 oz bottle) cokes. Tasty. Everything else smelled good. Parking...yieh, its DC, get over it. Youre going to have to walk more than 10 feet to get somewhere. Take the metro, its only a few blocks away. I know Im skewed by the wonderful experience I had given that they helped make my evening special. That being said, the bottom line is Im going back.

The many dirty tables. And had a problem getting a clean table. The waitstaff are only nice to more people at a table. We had terrible service. Not spend much money and not get good service The hostess/waitstaff same behavior. Talk back rude, Eat food while wait on customers, rush to get rid of, yell and interrupt, walk away and not come back, walk away while females are talking to them. And walk away from customers to watch television. And run away from female customers and not volunteer to wait on . The waitstaff not want to write down the order. Said not their job. And we told them it is. WE got 3/4 ice in soft drinks that we not order. We not order ice, also. The female waitress squirted mustard on my shirt. WE left early and not eat. And the manager and hostess not apologize. the washing machine got out the mustard. The movie area is nice. Many choices on menu at moderate prices. And the decor is plain and nice.

Overpriced precooked crap. The stuff all comes ready made of a Cysco truck. You will find the exact same food at say a Dennys or a Shoneys ... As they all buy the same stuff and heat it up. Only its more expensive here. Plus it is owned by the creepiest old little half sized pervert youll ever meet. The owner (Jeff Gildenhorn) yells at the staff, and leers at underage girls all in front of customers. He shant have my business again.

Not sure what reviewers complaining about parking are talking about as there are multiple parking lots (one with the mural and the one behind the whole block of shops) one can use, but the food tends to be overpriced and not very good. I usually get an omelet as its one of the few foods on the menu that I can eat due to allergy reasons and its basically an egg crepe loosely wrapped around whatever fixings you get with it.

My spouse and I recently moved to the neighborhood and have been here three times. Its a little pricey (like most things in DC...) but its nearby and convenient. We like the summer movies! If were ever bored we can just walk across the street. The food is nothing to write home about... but the milkshakes are SO DELICIOUS (!) and the breakfast items are satisfying, too. Service was very friendly and attentive.

Im sort of a regular here now and although its a little on the pricy side, I love coming here. Their milkshakes are absolutely amazing. I dont know how they do it, but its be the best damn milkshake in town! The food isnt absolutely amazing but its still quite good. I love the staff too! Theyre all really nice to my friends and I. Oh, and they made me a birthday pancake stack with alllll the works. It was awesome!

The waitress was friendly and good customer service. I ordered the meatball sub with fries,my husband ordered Belgian waffle, home fries and fried egg. The portion size were good and good taste, but then my husband discovered 2 pieces of hair in his homefries. We didnt bother making the staff aware because it was toward the end of the meal. I observed the two male cooks without hair nets which should be required.

Awesome place !!! Staff is friendly and very accommodating to the customers. Food is amazing. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and it was great. Husband had chick and sausage over spaghetti and it was all he could do to finish it. Would highly recommend this diner if you looking for a friendly , good food place to eat.

Went by on Saturday night at 10:30pm. They rudely told us they were closed. I Showed them their website that said Midnight was closing time. They said we are closed, the website has not been updated. He said it so rudely and did not care about the inconvenience to us.

had to call to speak to manager because after visiting the bill was $20.02 and they charged our card $23.02. Now theyre saying what we ordered was $21 and change. And to go back in there and they will figure out the bill and give us the correct change. REALLY!!!
