Returned in 2010, and the manager admitted that they no longer use the spice bags the original founder used to make up for the sauce. The legendary taste is a fading memory. They also did false advertising. A big sign in front of the place and at every table offered a chance to win a new car. I asked for my chance, and they told me that all of the tickets were gone, and as a matter of fact, they had already selected a winner. This was on Tuesday, while the car was being given away on Saturday. Went to Nicolas later that week. They still use the original family recipe, Much better, My wife and I have spent two long weekends, and most recently, a full week in Rehoboth. Our first two visits - we were disappointed in the Grotto - got great looking pizzas, but the cheese was tasteless, and the sauce had no spices. This past week, nearly restored our faith in the Grotto. Had a pizza at the Outlet center, and it was outstanding -- nice sharp cheese flavor, and the sauce was back. We then visited the Rehoboth Avenue location, and got another outstanding pizza. On a drizzly night, we went back for a third time, and son of a gun -- the cheese was flavorless, and the sauce had no hint of spices in it! My wife speaks from experience. She worked in the family pizza business for 11 years before leaving small-town Pennsylvania -- at a place whose owner was related to the Grottos owner IMHO, what is going on is a QA/QC problem -- the bakers are sometimes forgetting to add the spice bag to the bucket of sauce!!! Earlier this spring and summer the pizzas rated a C - good looking but tasteless. This past week, Grotto sold us two As" and a C. Maybe they need to send the guy who runs the Harveys Lake PA site on a QA/QC tour. Theyve got the stuff to consistently bake a good pizza -- they dont always do it.

A few friends and I sat on the second floor. My experience here was terrible. I understand that the windows are open upstairs but there were flies everywhere. The waiter/bartender was inattentive, our table had to ask him to refill our drinks multiple times and had to ask him to take our plates and he brings out my friends salad with no dressing. He didnt know drink prices when I asked and I had to blatantly had to ask him to check so I could know. Then when checking my ID he makes a comment "youre cutting it close." referring that I was too young to have a beverage and Im 22 so I dont know why that was even said. Then the other waiter said "yeah, thats why shes at the bar." I just thought it was very unprofessional. I ordered a long island ice tea and it was all mixer, not very much alcohol for the price. So I ordered something else and it was literally all soda and I try to get another drink and he "cut me off" saying that it was a lot of alcohol but these drinks literally almost had nothing in them. I would understand if the drinks were strong or if I was acting obviously intoxicated, which I wasnt. I had to also call him over to the bar each time to even get a drink when he was doing nothing and I thought that was very rude.. I also gave him my card to swipe and then he brings me a recipet that hadnt been swiped so I dont understand why he swipped my card at first. He was the bar tender with red hair and glasses. I would never come back here.

Its unfortunate that I at least have to put a star here because this pizza is disgusting. It doesnt have the right to be called pizza. Anyone can slap cardboard bread, watery tomato sauce, and bad cheese together and call it a pizza. It has been 10 years since I last went and I dont plan on going. Just because the price is cheap doesnt mean the pizza has to be. My family just came from there yesterday with stomach problems. I saw the margarita pizza they brought home and it looked like something youd find in a dumpster. Sorry folks but anyone who says this pizza is good has no taste buds or hasnt eaten real pizza. Delaware needs to stick with boardwalk fries.

HORRIBLE!!! I ordered a baked zitti with sausage. They gave me a baked zitti with sausage pizza toppings that tasted like S..T! I did refuse to pay for it and was deducted from my bill. Also when I was escorted to the upper dining area I noticed how filthy the steps were and that they were open steps (no backs) so when ever someone walked up those stairs it would cause the loose dirt and filth to fall on the patrons below. On them and their food. There were even spider webs at the top of the steps, clearly a health violation. I warned everyone that I know on my FB page not to go there. It was a descusting experience and I will NEVER go there again!

after driving for hours, late at night, hungry Id eat just about anything. But this sad excuse for pizza had a floppy, nasty crust, tasteless sauce and rubbery cheese. I stopped eating after two bites. The second bite was only to confirm the disbelief of how bad the first one was. The flies were impressive though, there had to be a hundred flying around. If you love Chef Boyardee pizza, you might think this was edible. 7-11 pizza is better than this.

I love Grotto! We had a super friendly waitress that got us everything we needed right away. The pizza was amazing! There was this one fly bugging us, but we were sitting outside and you cant really keep them away. Although most people who wrote reviews on this place are bad I thought the pizza was great. If youre looking for a quick and tasty dinner stop come here, they really do have the best pizza in Delaware!

Ordered a spinach salad over the phone to go based on the menu attached to google maps. Received a garden salad. Called to complain and the woman told me they dont even have a spinach salad, that they have an arugula salad. Not sure why they took an order for a spinach salad then or why they didnt tell me that when I ordered. Anyway, this menu is apparently incorrect so dont order off of it.

Grottos used to be excellent a very long time ago. Im talking decades here, people. Once they got a name for themselves and were guaranteed the tourist dollars, they cheapened out on their food and its been the pits ever since. Sure, its inexpensive pizza but its usually cold and always rubbery and entirely flavorless. I feel sorry for the crowds of people that are seen here.

One word: spectacular. It is our favorite place at the beach, which we eat at again and again. Truly, if you havent experienced a hot grotto, just out of the oven, youve missed out on the best that pizza has to offer. We dream of it in the winter. Unfortunately, the boxed grotto cannot live up to the perfection that is served at Rehoboth Beach. Its a dont miss!!!
