I agree with many of the reviewers that the food is inconsistent at best. The food is marginal and overpriced. If you are willing to pay these prices you might as well go across the street to Applausi restaurant where the atmosphere is nicer and you can count on good food. My experience yesterday was awful but what made matters worse was managers complete lack of ability to handle issues. I ordered salmon and asked for it to be prepared rare. When the entrees arrived my salmon was overcooked, dry and inedible. The manager asked me if I was "sure it was dry" and to please check the middle of the fish to confirm that it was indeed dry -at which point I considered asking her to taste it if she was so reluctant to believe the customer. She then went back to the kitchen to "check", returning with an apology saying it was their fault and it would only take another 10 minutes to prepare another salmon entree. In the mean time she offered another glass of wine saying it would be "on the house". It was a nice gesture (I thought) since I was essentially watching everyone enjoy their meal while I waited for my $30.00 salmon to arrive. Then the waiter came back 10 -15 min later (when everyone in our party was done) and asked why I havent touched my meal (which I thought was strange). I reminded him that I was waiting for my salmon to be replaced. The manager then rushed back saying she must have misunderstood and "there is actually no replacement salmon being prepared" after all. There was stunned silence ........ every single person in my party was shocked and speechless (AND felt bad that we came to enjoy a nice Saturday night out while basically I ended up watching everyone eat). We all reminded her that she said it was entirely their fault (obviously) and it would only take 10 minutes to prepare another dish and now she is saying nothing is being done about it. What part of "it will only take 10 minutes to prepare another dish" to replace the dry salmon which was clearly untouched- was confusing to her? We were all stunned but there was really nothing to be done at that point. The biggest shocker came when we got our bill. We were charged the $30.00 for the fish that was left untouched. We called the manager back and she begun negotiating with us to pay for at least the second glass of wine which would cover half of the entree (the wine which I did not order in the first place and which I left untouched)............................ "Is she joking?"- I thought. When I realized she was not, I was so uncomfortable about the whole fiasco and felt pressured to pay for what I did not order or enjoy in the first place and for what turned out to be one of the worst experiences there. I did pay. But it was wrong of them to do that. I am shocked and appalled at the managements lack of ability to handle issues. How can she put customer on the spot like that when I didnt even enjoy the evening? How can she pressure the customer to pay for such a bad experience ESPECIALLY in front of their diner guests? The manager is inept at handling the restaurant and is incapable at handling any problems. The menu is overpriced for a small town cafe. The food is bad. I would not recommend this restaurant. Not only that I had a bad experience I was pressured to pay for the meal I didnt touch. Unbelievable.

My wife and I were very hungry after driving for 6 hours. We delighted at the thought of having fresh New England seafood for dinner. Beach House Cafe was recommended by the bed & breakfast we were staying at. The restaurant is located on a quaint street with a lot of little shops. We entered it and were promptly greeted and seated. Our server was nice although he didnt say more than 3 words for the duration of our visit. We saw him for our drink order, food order, and check payment. Someone else brought our drinks and food, and yet another person cleaned our table. Anyway, to the food. We both started with a soup; I got the clam chowder and my wife got the lobster bisque. Both soups were bland and lacked sizeable portions of meat. A can of campbells select wouldve been cheaper and more gratifying. I had the fish & chips for my main entree. Sadly, the highlight of this dish was the tartar sauce. The fish was decent. The fish itself didnt have any flavor and the same is true for the batter. The tartar sauce made it tolerable. The french fries were wretched. They were not crispy. They were not salted. I ate 3 fries and thats it-- and I eat anything! My wife ordered the scallops with corn and crab risotto. The scallops were rubbery on the outside, had a strange texture on the inside, and had an odd flavor (instead of being sweet they were semi-bitter)-- I suspect they were old or not even real scallops. The risotto was cooked well. It tasted okay-- possibly because the corn overpowered the dish-- it made the scallops digestible. I rate this restaurant 1 star because the quality and taste of the food was extremely poor in relation to the high cost. The food was so bland, I felt like I was eating at a hospital cafeteria. We wouldve been happier at a Red Lobster or even a Long John Silvers for seafood- a sad statement while dining at a seafood restaurant in New England.

The Beach House is inconsistent at best. The food is really good when its actually prepared right. Ive been served cold entrees on multiple occasions. The manager is one of the rudest people Ive ever met. When you screw someones order up, its generally common courtesy to express some sort of remorse. Ive also been served stale beer on multiple occasions. This wouldnt be a big deal except one time the waiter, who had mentioned that the kegs were having problems, challenged my assessment that my Stella Artois was not quite right. Dont tell your customers youre having issues if your intent is to cheat them. The prices arent too extravagant, but its not cheap either. Youre essentially flipping a coin to get a good meal. Problem is that if there are problems, youre screwed. Management doesnt care about the customers at all. I wont be returning to the Beach House. Other places deserve your business. The Beach House acts like its entitled to it. I think not. I cant wait for MacKenzies to reopen.

The menu was interesting but the food was mediocre. Our daughter, who can eat pasta every day of the week, stopped eating the penne because it "didnt taste like anything." She was right: it didnt. And the other dishes were not much better. Worst of all was the service: the waiter served us grudgingly and was just short of being rude. All of which is unfortunate because the decor is nice and the prices were right.

Steak tacos were one of the specials. Stuffed full of tender steak, topped with cheddar cheese. Mlady had skirt steak salad with arugula and mozzarella cheese, which was delicious. Its definitely a quaint locale for locals. We certainly stood out as not being from these here parts.

My crab cake was obviously taken out of freezer and tossed on the grill in a hurry. It was lukewarm in the center and very much burned outside. For the price, youd expect fresh crab cake. Nope, it tastes like microwave dinner. Greenwich avenue or Stamford would be your better bet.
