be careful! this is coming from a former employee-- most of the food is NOT safe to be served. the rice for the Mahopac wrap sits in the same container every day, burnt and not temperature-controlled. the container is not washed, just re-filled continuously. the eggs and bacon are even more hazardous to eat. they are out for the entire day without being properly heated which is a serious food safety violation. spinach is washed in the beginning of the week and left in a bin until it all wilts and becomes very mushy. the soups are left to spoil and leave thick amounts of film around the edges of the container. these are all health hazards that need to be paid attention to! this is not coming from a disgruntled place at all, I loved my job when I had it, and treated the cafe as my own. I was disappointed to see that Donna Massaro would be so childish and immature by firing me for going outside without clocking out (after I put in my two week notice because I found a better-paying job). I am simply writing all of this because I am now more educated than when I was working at the Freight House and feel that "valued" customers should be made aware of things that can potentially damage them. in hindsight, I am very fortunate and want to publicly thank Donna for that because if it werent for her firing me, I would never be working in the kitchen at another great local restaurant, learning about proper food handling.

I like this place. Plus it seems the owner is very involved in our local community, which as a local business owner I respect greatly. The coffee house is a bit cluttered but comfortable for relaxing. Its right off the bike path, which is cool and has a fantastic outside seating area. Music selection I hear is always decent and the service has always been nice. I would be a constant customer if the coffee was better. Its OK, (my favorite is 7eleven) but when you pay a premium for a cup of coffee, you should expect something to suit the price. Not the case here. Ive also had a latte and cappuccino, both were very watery, the latte I couldnt finish. Uncluttered and with a little more attention to their coffee quality, this place has the potential to be a standout gem in a town that is not known for quality food service and selection. Good luck to the Freight House.

First, lets start off with - Mahopac is lucky to have such a One-of-a-kind establishment. When you walk in the doors a cheerful staff and owner herself accommodates customers with an assortment of delicious coffees and unique sandwiches made with FRESH local grown ingredients which also keeps the money spend in the Cafe circulating in the community. Any of the freight house wraps will hit the bulls-eye for youre breakfast or lunch appetite. As for Ms. Massaro, owner she is a accomplished leader, a go getter, down to earth community minded young woman who had brought only goodness to her own community through food and java - while offering a quiet matchless location - to sip a latte or meet with friends for a quick cup of Joe. I applause her success and is looking forward to many more years of small town Cafe style dining. Thank you!

There are many great things about this place. The ambiance, while a bit dark, is cozy. The dark-wood floors and wood-paneled walls are covered in kitschy paraphernalia and fairy lights. The mis-matched chairs and tables fit the funky vibe. The menu is extensive for a coffee shop, with some nice healthy options along with more indulgent choices - from granola to bacon, hummus to fluffer nutter. The coffee is passable, but the presentation lacks sophistication. The bathroom is outside, and requires a key. Inconvenient in summer months, highly annoying in cold months. Back on the plus side, the service is friendly and the WiFi is open and free. Would recommend a stop.

This is a nice cozy cafe with character, and staff that makes you feel welcome. Its located off the street and the sign is easy to miss the first time you drive here if youre following the driving directions. The good music, cushy seats and fireplace give the place a nice ambiance. They have delicious local oatmeal. The espresso they is use is strongly caffeinated but a bit short on flavor. The other foods are good though a bit pricey. The restroom door is on the porch outside the cafe which is not ideal in winter.

Went there today because I was meeting a friend who use to live in Mahopac. She had a small errand to do and called me and I have heard this place is very unique so we decided to try it. What a charming place. Food is great, healthy. The waitress was so pleasant as was the owner Donna. I love to network and her I struck up a nice conversation. I lived in Mahopac for 30yrs and now Yorktown for 13. Definitely a place I would recommend and will go back. Very relaxed time there. Thanks.

Just love it! We have lunch, breakfast or stop by for a cup of coffee and relax at least 2xs a week. Everyone always makes you feel welcome and comfortable. Love that we can bring our dogs & have a bite to eat on the outside deck and feel welcome! They even have treats for dogs. Great food, original creations as well as classic staples! The Freight House is exactly what we have been missing in the community! Thank you Donna!!! Well Done!

Stopped in for breakfast today because of good reviews online. The overall vibe of the place is welcoming and nice , but I was disappointed with the quality of the items I got for the high price. At $9, the smoothie I got was basically just Blended ice that lacked any flavor. The servers werent very friendly but werent rude either- neutral.

This place is one of the best cafes Ive ever been to. I frequent here as much as possible and always bring friends and clients whenever I am in the area. The owner is present most days and enjoyable to speak with as her staff is very friendly. On top of a great atmosphere, the food is outstanding!

Stopped in while working in the area. Great service, delicious breakfast wrap, and even better coffee in a real mug! Awesome original historic railroad freight building. They do have a parking lot, so you dont have to park on the street. Will def be back!

Quiet place for a breakfast with some good company in my case. Wed eaten outside in the beautiful weather, and they were very accommodating. Seems to be a contraption to serve folks on the rail trail too.
