Been to Sal e Pepe dozens of times -- going again tonight to celebrate my sons birthday. the food is excellent and, often, unexpected. (The chef does wonders with beets, for example; try the goat cheese fritters.) Specials are always worth trying, but read the descriptions carefully: occasionally they can be a bit sweet for my taste. Everything on the menu is excellent, the lasagna is killer, the desserts -- not so much (they could use a good pastry chef). And if the food and reasonable prices (not cheap, but a real value given the quality of the food) are not enough to keep you coming back, they have a frequent diner program that will. Unless youve a real sweet tooth and consider your entree to be merely a prelude to a lavish dessert, Sal e Pepe will not disappoint.

Something is wrong here. We dined at this restaurant several months ago and while not overwhelmed at the time we were satisfied with our experience. But this time (a Friday night) was different. Food was not even up to the level of mediocre. Carrot soup was bland, followed by gritty and poorly conceived pear and beet salad. The lasagna main course (Mrs. Marinis; highly recommended by server) was not only uninspired but actually not up to par with a generic frozen supermarket entree. Wine list a bit shallow and way overpriced for the product. I guess this establishment survives because they are one of the few "good" restaurants in town. Well be going elsewhere next time. Give this place a miss.

Sal e Pepe always does a great job with meal preparation whether you are going for lunch or dinner. We have been thee many times and are never disappointed. My brother-in-law and nephew had never been to Sal e Pepe but had seen a good review in Connecticut Magazine and wanted to go there. We told them it was a very good choice and they would enjoy their meal and the good service provided. We went for lunch on 12/30/14 and it had just opened and within a short period of time my brother-in-law commented on how it had filled up for a Monday. That tells you something about the popularity of the restaurant. Always make a reservation for dinner. Lunch starts at 12:00.

We like the food and how well the staff works well with each other and appear to enjoy their job. The first time we went there was in a snow storm and enjoyed the warm and friendly experience. It has a warm Italian family atmosphere. One time we left are charge card behind and before we got home we got a cell phone call telling us so. We still cannot figure out how they were able to find our phone number so fast. On our last trip we did a walk in on Valentine’s Day and were sitted right away at the bar, they were expecting over 200 guests that night. We also found out my expired birthday coupon would still be honored. We will be back!

Sal e Pepe is a superior restaurant in my backyard that was recommended to me. I took my mother there for her 75th birthday. They made a point of bringing her out a lava cake with candles on it and a scoop of Ferris Acres ice cream. We combined this dessert with an excellent cappuccino. Also she ordered a special vodka drink that she wound up not liking. They whisked it away and brought her a tasty traditional vodka on the rocks at no charge. Our waitress was top notch. I ordered the mushroom ravioli, which was superb. I look forward to returning.

Sal E Pepes has the feel of an authentic Italian neighborhood bistro. Its warm and cozy, welcoming space is ideal for a quiet dinner, a celebration with friends or even a lunch with the girls. What I love most is the personal touch...were always greeted by Angelo, the wait staff is always attentive to our needs and knowledgeable. And the food is wonderful, with lots of variety and specials that change regularly. It definitely has that one in a million feel, set right on South Main Street in Newtown, you feel like youve made the perfect escape!

When we arrived we, a party of four, were very hungry. We ordered drinks and bread. When the bread arrived, we devoured it using their special dipping oil. We could have dined on the bread alone, but decided to move on to the menu entrees. I was so pleased to see one of my favorites, "Spaghetti & Meat Balls alla Bolognese. The others in my party joked about my choice as they ordered their "impressive" entrees. Their eyes popped out when my plate arrived. They were envious. I had the BEST meal that evening! We love Sal e Pepes restaurant.

Angelo continues to create a unique storied experience in Newtown. An excellent choice for an intimate dining experience. We chose seating on the patio enjoyed a wonderful meal... until rain chased us inside. I chose the Seafood Ravioli. She selected the Roasted Pistachio encrusted Salmon. The experience was relaxing and unrushed. The presentation was impeccable. The dishes were topped with tableside fresh peppermill and fresh parmesan and the food was delicious. I suggest something completely different, the pizzette. I highly recommend.

Excellent restaurant and great staff! From the front desk to the waiter/waitress it is always a pleasant experience. I travel to NYC every week and have dined at just about every restaurant and Sal Pepe remains one of my favorite! If you desire something altered in your meal I am certain they will have no hesitation to do it. My only regret is not dining here in the past. The Linguine alle Vongole are amazing! I will continue to be back and even take out when in a hurry, keep up the great work! -A

Another great meal! Excellent service and atmosphere from top to bottom. Renia and Angelo are always welcoming and never are too busy to stop by the table to make sure everything is just right. A must for date night! Business as usual. It is good to know some things never change. When dining out is less often, going to Sal e Pepe is like visiting family or an old friend. Always welcoming with great hosts, good food and warm atmosphere. Another night to remember!

As always, we had a great evening with great food and service. I have never had anything bad or even close to bad to say about Sal e Pepes, how in the world could I when the food and service are among the best in the Newtown area. Once again we exited with a smile and full bellys. Thank you to the complete staff of Sal e Pepes for doing such a great job, from entering to our exiting your restaurant. The soft shell crabs were out of this world!

We recently had the Tilapia which was cooked to perfection, and also the Bucatini with shrimp. The fresh tomato sauce with the Bucatini was one on the best Ive ever had. Having a Sicilian mother, plus having spent some time living in Italy, I can really appreciate a good fresh sauce; and this one was excellent! Food and service quality are important to us, which is one reason we are frequent patrons.
