If you are not italian and like to overpay for poor quality this is the place. I should have known this place was terrible when I asked for a substitution in the appetizer and was told that the appetizer was already prepared. This place should be on kitchen nightmares. They served me vinegared pickled vegetables in an anipasti. It was more like the antichristi. My steak was was past the medium rare I ordered and my wifes scallops tasted like they were burnt from a rusted pan. I did not complain because we were with a group and did not want to embarass anybody. It probably would not have made a difference though as the waiter believed the special was the chefs signature dish. I cant believe this place has been around for so long with so many positive alternative options in New Haven.

Not bad decor, a little dark, seemed deserted. Service fine, no problems. We were not impressed by the food. The Cavatelli Bolognese was unremarkable; watery, not too much flavor, overcooked. Wholly uninteresting; something a mildly experience home cook could whip up in an hour. Antipasti misti, you cant really go wrong with that. But half of this antipasto was pickled vegetables, seemingly right out of a can. Seems like they havent changed that since the last review below. It wasnt cheap either. I would not recommend coming to this restaurant. The food is really quite mediocre.

I had my sons baby shower there this past Sunday the food was outstanding for Italian food. The staff was great and accommodating. I have eaten in many outstanding Italian Restrauants in the past and Tri Scalini is one of the best. The prices are great and you get allot of food. Everyone that came to the shower enjoyed everything about it. The experience was a success. I truly reccommand this Restrauant.

Attended a Christmas party for 15 people in their private function room. Server was overwhelmed. Unable to keep up, although his efforts were valiant, the restaurant was badly understaffed. I ordered Chicken Giovanna, it arrived hot and the presentation was exceptable. However, I found the flavor to be flat and truly unremarkable. Based on this experience, i would not be returning to this restaurant.

The food was absolutely terrible, from the tasteless appetizer to the icky sweet osso buco. My dinner was so unpalatable that I had to send it back. The others in my party had the daily special, which was flavorless, greasy and tough. The desert was burned and came in a ridiculously small portion. There are so many other good Italian restaurants in New Haven, dont even bother with this one.

Textured flavors and delightful dressings. This is a monthly must have for my wife and I. Wait staff is outstanding. Vegetarian friendly also. Tip: In good weather, the patio in the back is one of the best places to dine in New Haven.
