Nice space, and a great bar with tons of tequilas. That is where the good experience ended for me. I ate here on a Tuesday night, and it was not at all busy, so maybe the 2nd string was working, but was not impressed. We waited about 10 minutes before getting a server (who was very personable.) I ordered the chicken chimichangas. At $15, I was expecting a pretty fancy dish, but was dissapointed. The dish was tasteless, basically pureed chicken paste inside a deep fried (overcooked) tortilla. No salsa, no sour cream, no guacamole, nothing but a side of boring rice and black beans that tasted like they were fresh out of the can with a bit of cilantro sprinkled on them. I couldnt finish the dish. My wife had shrimp tostadas that had a better taste, but they were clumsy, made to eat with your hands, but served with tails on the shrimp so that you had to deconstruct and reconstruct the tostada before you could eat it. The kids loved their deep fried mac and cheese nuggets, that is about all I can say positive about the food. We were also charged $5 extra for drinks that were included with the kids meals, and the server didnt offer them the ice cream sundaes that were included in kids meals. Didnt care at that point, got the extra charges removed and left, deeply unsatisfied.

We had to wait 10 mins at least for a hostess to show up at the hostess station. We decided to eat in the bar area as their was a table immediate available. What a mistake. I had to go to the bar to get our own drinks, because a waitress kept avoiding the fact we were there. When she did come to the table she cleared it and and wiped it down with the last persons dirty napkin! I asked her if she could please wipe it down with a clean cloth, which she did with attitude. She gave us our menu, and said she would be right back. after about a 1/2 hour, she never returned. I went to the bar again to get my own drinks. She finally came to the table to take our order, but at that time we had decided to leave and go some where else. I was told by the hostess, that it was Wesleyan Weekend and they were very busy. First, if they knew it was going to be busy why was it not staffed properly? secondly, Just because I live in Middletown, and not a part of Wesleyan, does that make me and my money no good? As I said, I live in Middletown, and would have gone back, the parents of the students were only visiting. I see where Middletown residents stand with La Boca. We dont. Good luck with your business. Nor I and my friends wont be back!

I would never eat at La Boca again. The actual Mexican food on the menu isnt even good. I had enchiladas that were cold, barely seasoned, and covered in cold salsa. When I saw the canned refried beans and dry orange rice on the side I knew the meal would be bad. Some other people I was with had better meals, but they werent the Mexican dishes. Why would a Mexican restaurant have crappy Mexican food but pretty decent non Mexican food? Service was OK, but the wait time for food was much slower than expected. Ive heard the bar is fun, but we were there early on a week night and it was empty. Drinks were a bit pricey and staff wasnt very attentive. Which reminds me, we had to stand in the entry for a while before the hostess came out and even then I am pretty sure it was only because someone in the bar told her to. There are much better places to eat in Middletown, better food and better service. I wont be back to La Boca.

Two words: damn disgusting. Boy, if you like your food boring, bland, and generally nasty, then this place is for you! If I can go home and cook a better meal, without using any references/recipes, then you sir, have a serious problem; because my culinary skills are sorely lacking. My black bean soup was just beans in some weird gooey mixture, with absolutely no seasonings. It was tasteless (cardboard is not a taste). I mean, come on, cut up a jalapeno maybe? Green pepper? How about some black pepper? Just add something, anything. No need to trash the rest of the order, I think my opinion is clear. Although, I cannot complain about the glass of water I ordered. I suppose Im being very harsh... but I used to live in the area and would frequent La Boca quite often. Their food was awesome. It was one of my favorite places in Middletown. I dont know what happened, but whatever it was, it wasnt good. Its sad really.

I tried to have dinner at La Boca tonight. After I was seated the hostess came back a few minutes later to take a drink order because our waiter was busy. About 20 minutes after that my boyfriend and I walked out with out receiving the drinks wed ordered or any waiter stopping at our table. Had it been a busy night I may have understood but there were empty tables and the waiters were going to every other table multiple times while we waited but not once did either of them come to my table.

Years ago this place was so great, now with the new owners you dont get good food. I am talking cold/warmish dishes and not as much food. Terrible prices and terrible food, making this place worse then First and Last!!!! The service sucked but at least with First and Last you got "okay" food at sucky prices. This place is utter CRAP, and when a frozen $3 dollar meal from Stop & Shop is BETTER then what you got for $15, its CRAP!!!!! I miss the old place and the old location!!!!

I go to la boca whenever i am in middletown. Recently, as of about Cinco De Mayo this last year, everything has just been through the roof amazing. Food is great and drinks are better. Awesome live music scene, lots of entertainment. Also, the old art which was up is now down and being replaced with some amazing stuff by local artists. La Boca is a Gem of Middletown, and truly encapsulates the local culture. That can not be said about a lot of the new places in town.

Bad service, food was cold coming out, also due to the fact that the dining room was also freezing, I ate with my winter jacket on. Ordered their drink of the month and it was nothing like the picture, and this was their pictured drink on all menus. Also tasted really bad. Overall, do not come here, overpriced TexMex food, nowhere near real Mexican cuisine, you are better off eating at On the Border, at least yo wont freeze.

$14 for a taco meal and I was given less then a half a cup of hard, warm-coldish rice and beans in a container for salad dressing -- as the only sides, and 3 strands of cheese on the top. $14. Just not competitive quality to the market around them. There are better and cheaper choices around them. I just dont understand it, they used to have good food at their old location. I should have returned it!!!!
