Im not really sure why this place is rated four stars when the food is very plain not even edible its so plain. The food was plain, not even Mexican chain status, way below average like someone who cooked Mexican food for the first time with little cooking skills. The pictures online look amazing but what I got looked average and tasted well below average. I got take out and when I went in the bartender Gabby was very rude when I asked her is the beef burrito spicy. She got REAL nasty rolling her eyes saying all the burritos are spicy. I went home to eat the food and the experience really shook me. I had a few bites of the taco and didnt like it so I took the whole order back. I told the manager on duty about the experience and he put my money back on the card for my order. My mom didnt like her food either and I told him that but she decided to eat it because she was so hungry and he didnt comp hers. I thought that was really rude because of the whole experience but I didnt say anything. I will never go back and Ive never been treated so badly then I did from that bartender at that restaurant: I do have to say that karma was served because when I went back to bring the food back she slipped on grease. She also was very loudly at the bar saying oh I dont feel good to make up for how she treated me. I really hope she learned her lesson about mistreating people. Worst Mexican, low class woman at bar. Will never return. Ever.

Agave Grill is a cool little spot in Downtown Hartford, within walking distance to the XL Center and a handful of bars. My compadre and I took a quick dinner/drink rest stop here before starting our 4-day ski trip up in VT and enjoyed every last bit of it! We shared two entrees (spicy shrimp quesadilla and lobster enchilada) and washed both down with a round of margaritas (house, and habanero mango). The quesadilla shrimp were spicy as promised, accompanied with a nice black bean & corn salsa, and generously crammed inside a tasty fire-grilled wrapper. My friends lobster enchilada was loaded with chunks of lobster, and garnished with black beans and seasoned rice to offset the small-ish enchilada portion. Food was great for the price, and the habanero mango margarita was delicious with just the right amount of kick! The atmosphere here is really cool - textured walls and knotty wood built-ins were neatly decorated with southwestern artifacts (sombreros, skulls, paintings, etc.). Lit candles spaced throughout complimented the dimly-lit lighting and enhanced the warmth of the space. Our server was great, although he seemed a little rushed/overwhelmed at first. If youre around the Downtown area in search of a tasty Mexican meal and a cool scene, Agave Grill is worth a visit.

Agave is a seemingly small restaurant that does not disappoint. There is a second area in the restaurant that has more seating, but that usually does not get opened unless theres a special occasion. The prices are pretty good, and its some of the best Mexican in the state. When we go, we generally end up ordering four tacos (because why order 2 for a few dollars less!). And the fish tacos are the only fish tacos with citrus that I can find. They are great, as well! The table side guacamole is great, but we usually get the salsa with chips and then just add tons of hot sauce with them. Overall, the food is great and the atmosphere is fun.

Tried this place before a concert at the XL center... The drinks are awesome- 5 stars for them. But the food- 2 stars, along with the guy who made our tableside guacamole... the sign out front read "best tacos in CT"... I beg to differ! Ive had better tacos from Taco Bell, which Im not proud to admit. The soft shells for the tacos are only available in flour, not corn- and the spicy beef meat was regular ground beef, nothing fancy like you would think from a restaurant boasting to have the best tacos in CT.

Do not call and order from this restaurant. They cannot get an order right to save their lives. I just placed two separate orders of tacos with a dessert and they got the entire order wrong start to finish. Unbelievable. They sell overpriced tacos (two for $11? in what world?) and cannot even deliver! Its truly a shame. They have an amazing chef back there cooking great food with incompetent people to (sort of) serve it. If you want to actually enjoy the food, go eat at the restaurant.

I have been to this restaurant before and have been pleasantly satisfied, but after this upsetting event at Agave, I will not be returning to there and I urge others to heed my warning. I had been hungry for more than 5 hours and looking forward to eating at Agave with my family, but after my order had been messed up, raw mango bits on my cheesecake, and my guacamole had not been spicy when I specifically asked for it to be spicy. Last visit.

I came here as a part of a happy hour for work and was happy to see the amount of items on their happy hour menu! They had $3 beers and then $4 wine, sangria, and some margaritas. They also had $5 tacos and some other bites to eat. The bar tender was extremely fast and friendly and the whole staff was attentive. There was street parking in front as well as an inexpensive lot right next door so overall it was easy to access. I recommend it!

Mexican Pasta.......Simply Awesome. Perfect margarita. Very friendly bartender. Clean and lit just right. Good chips and salsa. Side of guac was very good. The Past Perez was the first time having anything pasta Mexican style. It was delicious with blackened chicken, bacon, spiral pasta, onions, tomatoes and cheese. Half leftovers. Nice ambiance Clean bathrooms. Must repeat.

They have a waitress who looks just like Scarlett Johansson :) If that is not reason enough, the food and ambience is really good. A very good place to hangout on those Friday and Satrurday nights. Try their nachos, they are superb. Also they make the guac right in front of you.

good food. worst service ever. The food took over an hour. The server told us that it was taking so long because of the steak. med rare steak takes an hour? When it did come out my dish was wrong. wasnt worth sending back to the kitchen. If I do go back I will sit at the bar.

Awesome place. Mexican food is their speciality. They also have some craft beer which is quite good too. You can ask the waiter or waitress for recommendations of you want to know more. I have had a lot of food here, and chimichangas Rick the boat.

Beat margarita Ive ever had. Incredibly fresh ingredients in every dish. Mahi Mahi tacos that surprised and delighted. Mexican hot chocolate is the best kept secret. Authentic, high quality, and impeccable service. Thank you for a great evening.
