While I have been here many times and love the food, never in my life have I experienced such rude service and such disrespect. A few friends and I went for dinner and when we went to pay for our own meals, the waiter told us that he would not be able to do that and that he was splitting the check evenly. I asked why he was unable to do that and he stated that we did not tell him we were paying for our own meals prior to him writing the check so we would have to figure it out ourselves. Due to the fact that we each ordered different items at different prices I found that this would be unfair and asked if he could do it this time since we had not known about this "rule." He told me he couldnt because he was busy and walked away to serve another table. Each time I attempted to figure out a solution, he seemed unbothered and when he finally took the time to talk, he was very rude. I apologized for the inconvenience and asked him if he could please allow us to pay for our own meals due to the fact that we bought different dishes and that we werent accustomed to stating we wanted split checks from the beginning. It was our first time doing that at a restaurant and that most restaurants allowed us to do so at the end. His response of "then go there to eat" was completely, in my opinion, out of line. Finally, however, he agreed to do so. While he was splitting our checks up, I noticed something was off when signing my bill. He had charged us all MORE than what our meals and taxes were. My meal was $15, meaning that my total, including food tax, should have been $15.95... He charged me $17.25. My friends meal which was $10, $10.62 with taxes was charged $11.27 to his card, and this happened to two others that I was with. We had all ready spent about 20 minutes trying to deal with this person so did not have the energy to fight with him, but I recommend NOT giving this place business despite them having good food. There are plenty of other places that you can support who wont rip you off. Coyote Flaco is fantastic and always have great service. Go there!!!

Prices are atrocious. Looking at the menu was mind boggling. If they could they would charge you for every breath you took. Chips and salsa are ONLY given to you if you order an entree I dont know any other place that does that. Also 1$ If you ask for extra sour cream. The worst part? Quesadillas are 13$!! And before you say, "so what?" Let me tell you they are 13$ WITHOUT ANY MEAT. 4$ more if you want meat in them. Flour tortillas? 5 cents, cheese 25 cents and beans 1$ ( in the portions they give you) the amount they charge is ridiculous. Anywhere else it would be 8$ total including meat. I ordered enchiladas (13$) and when the plate was brought she said "have a nice dinner" then left. I proceeded to grab the plate and it was SCOLDING HOT. She didnt give me any warning. I asked for extra salsa with my chips considering the bowl of salsa they give you is so tiny and shallow. She informered me that would be 4$ extra. Service was great they were kind except for the plate incident. Food was very good! I would recommend if you dont mind being charged for every step you take in the restaurant!

Im a huge mexican fan-- tried places in texas, san diego, and big cities like philly, DC, NYC, Chicago salsa was 7/10-- enjoyable to eat but nothing spectacular either way. I rate this place poorly because i felt they were trying to jip me at the counter after eating. Apparently they charge for each indiidual coke-- no refills, and this isnt mentioned anywhere. They upd the price of my entree from what was listed on the menu, and said they just havent updated yet--not willing to lower it to what was advertized. Food was 6/10-- had the mexican steak which had a lot of fat and bone-- very poor cut of meat-- esp when its chopped up to be used in a meal. Price- C food - C- atmosphere-- A- i wouldnt recommend to a friend; on the border as far as recommending against

Ive been dining at Monte Alban Restaurant for quite a few years. It is good Mexican food and the service has never been questionable. Tonight, I ordered the Mole Poblano. Though the mole sauce was pleasant the chicken breast was rather tough. Was not asked if "everything okey" To make the matter worse, dinner and rice milk came to $16.50. No amount listed for tax. Bottom line, I owe $18.96. I questioned the price because at that moment I knew I was being overcharged on taxes. Not having a calculator or paper and pen, I couldnt figure the exact tax amount. Paid any way and left. Once home, I figured I was overcharged $1.40. No big deal. IF, I do return, Ill go armed with a small calculator.

My experience at Monte Alban has been consistently good and always fresh food. I had the tilapia the other day which was perfect (note: it was spicy, in case you may be sensitive to that). I also very highly recommend their tortilla soup. Another favorite is the pollo con champiñones. In my opinion, the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Also, unlike some of the other reviewers I have havent had a bad experience with the service and I have been going for a coupe of years. I would recommend Monte Alban. PS note the signs about parking, basically if you park across Farmington, a predatory towing company watches the lot, make sure you are in an appropriate spot.

Food was good, and their dessert is excellent . Customer service unfortunately left much to be desired. Im quite tall and when my party of two entered the nearly empty restaurant I was told that I had to sit in the smallest booth in the place. When I asked to be seated elsewhere because it was going to be uncomfortable, I was told that the tables were for parties of four or more, even though other parties of two were seated at the same types of tables. What could have been a great dining experience was much more mediocre for me and I wont go back, but since most people are shorter than me, I doubt they will have a similar problem.

After reviewing some of these posts I feel the need to re-iterate how good this restaurant actually is. Aside from the unavoidable bad experience from time to time, the food at Monte Alban is very fresh, the decor is quaint, and the guac is on point - the one universal quality among good, authentic, mexican restaurants. As for people complaining about the service and attitude of the staff, that is merely irrelevant. Taking your order and cooking the food are actions too mundane to take judgment on, so if you want your napkin folded for you I would suggest going to one of those Max restaurants.

Food is barely edible. Its like they use the lowest quality ingredients- i felt sort of ill afterward. They refuse to give you hot sauce with your order- they charge $2.25 for a tiny side of it which is the same price as the taco I ordered and for which I needed the hot sauce in the first place. In addition to this they are rude and dismissive. The lady at the register made me wait to cash out until she was done with whatever she was doing on her cell phone. I wont go back.
