Shiki Sushi is one of the fairly recent newcomers to Fairfield, having purchased the restaurant from the owners of Mako about a year or so ago. The new owners are a hard working couple that have updated the sushi menu with a wide variety of interesting rolls and a few new appetizers. What distinguishes Shiki from other restaurants with sushi on the menu is the unquestionable freshness of the fish and the thinner cuts of sashimi - which we prefer. Other restaurants seem to believe that hacking a large slab of tuna or salmon is what patrons are looking for. Shiki appears to understand that the way fish is cut is as important as the freshness of the fish - and we couldnt agree more. Sashimi pieces melt in the mouth. Sushi is crafted so that it doesnt fall apart (something other Fairfield establishments seem to struggle with.) Presentation is always impressive and many of the rolls are absolutely incredible. How many times have you paid $12 for a special roll that doesnt taste nearly as good as it looks? This is not the case at Shiki. Unlike Shikis predecessor, the team are agile enough to handle busy nights without incident by keeping food moving from the sushi bar and kitchen without compromising on quality. They also offer prompt delivery within Fairfield - a feature no other japanese restaurant offers in town. Shikis family feeling is pleasant and warm, but it does lack the more colorful ambiance of its competitors (like Kobis and Wild Rice.) Ive often felt this could be resolved somewhat inexpensively by adding some color to the bright overhead lighting and changing the music to either traditional Japanese or something more modern. The classical music seems somewhat out of place (and we enjoy classical!) But there is not doubt that Shiki stands on its own by having the best Sushi in Fairfield - and at the end of the day, that is why we - and many of Shikis loyal patrons - go back time after time. If you havent tried it yet and youre still looking for consistently great sushi and sashimi, try Shiki!

SHOCKED. Have on numerous occasions called in take out. This one time I did not get what I asked for. I called to advise the order was wrong and wanted a refund for the amount for the item that was wrong. My husband could not eat fish we asked for steak teriyaki. We do not live close by and since it was a mistake on their part I expect a refund for $18 or asked for their delivery person to drop off the correct meal and take back the wrong meal. The woman insisted she did not make a mistake I ordered what she gave me. I think I know what I ordered. After holding she comes back with a credit for $8 her reasoning we can eat the rest of the food not the fish. Again I said we dont want the other food credit the full amount or deliver the correct item. Very rudely she said we will credit the $18 but dont ever call or come here again. APPALLED will gladly never go there again. They were not the best anyway.

Service was great, if a little aloof. Ambiance was nice with a hand painted wall and live, hanging plants but Im not a fan of drop ceilings, neon window signs, dated bathrooms and strip-mall locations. The sushi was fantastic and presented beautifully on very nice and unique china. Ive never seen salmon so fresh - ever. In contrast, the tuna was a little pale but still tasted great. The waitress was very soft-spoken, friendly and there when we needed her but she plopped down the check shortly after delivering dessert. Before we finished, she asked if the check was "all set" - this, in a restaurant that was not even 1/2 full. Whats the rush? I would come back for the good value and great sushi but I wouldnt go out of my way. My 11 year old daughter would not come back. She says the place "looks cheap".

We (my girlfriend and I) are new to the neighborhood, from Stamford. Weve been searching for a great sushi place, and had tried sweet basil. It was awful. This place was phenomenal. Sam (the sushi chef) was knowledgeable and capable. Everything was great. You wont be disappointed. We will be back!

Read all the reviews and decided to give it a try. Sushi was sub par at best. Dont know how people are saying this is the best place in town for sushi because it 100% isnt. The sushi was decent for its price. If you want quality sushi, go to Wild Rice down the road.

Im really picky for sushi.. I worked at a place where the entire staff was japanese, and the quality of the sushi was amazing.... This is my favorite sushi place, and I have to admit, even better than the place I used to work at!

Great food, the best Japanese food Ive ever had! Cozy place, with traditional japanese tables, tatame and pillows, good for a date. Its a good idea to make a reservation.

Love this place. Last night, three of us went to dinner and each of us chose our favorite roll, the Hawaii Roll. Plus, the tuna tartare. Great little place!
