Horrible experience, never felt so unwelcomed in a place before. Called before arriving about 10:15, kitchen was open until 11;00. We arrived and had to finally go to the bar for help, were told we could sit at the bar or a table. We sat at the bar with only 3 other tables actually being served. Once we had menus it was a good 15-20 minutes before the bartender asked us if we wanted a cocktail. NO OTHER customers were being served so he wasnt busy. We then were given menus, we explained we had not been there before, he smiled and walked away, after waiting a good 15 minutes we got his attention and ordered. My partner ordered three items, I ordered 2; While his food was served one after another I continued to wait, while he was eating and I was waiting the bartender started closing up the bar. Which added to how uncomfortable we were, we then asked to have my dishes to go, since it was apparent we were not a priority. We got the bill, and then my dinner came bagged, up I finally just looked at them and said Keep it, and we left. I have never been more uncomfortable or made to feel so unwelcome. I served for years, and have bartended many places, this was horrible. When I asked to have it bagged I thought I would take it home, but then heard the bartender tell the owner or woman in charge, he wants it to go. Not once did anyone ask if things were okay, not once did she come over and ask why I choose to not eat after waiting so long for an order. We did something we have never done in my entire life, I left a 10% tip. The food choices were minimal, much better places to spend money. Barcelonas in New Haven will give you a better meal with better service. I own a business in town which thrives on Customer Service, making people comfortable this place has no clue what that entails.

Ibiza Tapas Wine Bar is a gem located on 1832 Dixwell Ave in Hamden CT owned by Ignacio Bianco. This is by far my favorite place to go after a long work week. Tapas is defined as hors d’oeuvre served with drinks, especially in Spanish bars (so to say you get transported to Spain every time you walk in is an understatement). Ibiza is dimly lit, with beautiful bold colors on the walls that host a local artist, Gershonh’s work. The small portions never leave me wanting more. My favorite dish is the Arroz De Setas y Verduras, which is bomba rice with wild mushrooms and truffle oil. (anything with truffle oil is amazing, right?) I always get either the grilled asparagus or roasted potatoes with hot sauce on the side. Another favorite meal at Ibiza is the Escalivada Catalana, An assortment of roasted vegetables drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and sea salt. I usually order the Avocado and roasted beets with either meal because I have never enjoyed beets as much as I do from Ibiza. Lastly, I could not write a review for this place without mentioning the Ganja white beans and snow peas, they are to die for! I could keep going with my favorite meals but I think I would rather have my readers try for themselves. If you go in the summer, they have an amazing outdoor front patio. I have been here so many times that when I walk in the waiters greet me with a hug! Once again it is so easy to order on or off the menu and maintain a vegan lifestyle with their delicious vegan cuisine, thank you again Ignacio! The friendly Spanish music in the background finishes off the “just landed in Spain” feel that keeps bringing me back. Salud.

So here is my IBIZA Hamden, CT review. We ate at the bar and had a memorable evening assisted by good food and drink with just enough company to make it cozy. Room was warm (temperature) well visited (not crowded --7 pm note it is a small room no more than 65 people at best) and lit with just enough light to appreciate your food and company without having to guess what you ordered or feel you are in fast food heater lights (why do fast food? ever?). The tapas were served hot (heat not spice) as food should be and cooked exceptionally. Bartender was none other than a native of northern Spain here learning English and not doing too bad either for 3 months here in the states. Yes, a little pricey, but you must understand value. What good is dinner out if you get a mediocre dish and then pay for it? Sometimes a little more can get you outstanding. My philosophy is that it is worth that margin. We had lime mojitos, done well and naturally muddled as they should be with no imitation mixes added in (cheaters use that stuff!). The three tapas ordered all were done well as well as the deserts. Fear not the menu. I will visit again to see just how consistent the next visit is on my travels to the next Tapas in CT. 4 star on my scale is fantastic. 5 would have to have been stellar. Consider this a complete win and add to your list. Yes, there are other poor reviews given, however, consider timing of those visits and some reviews a year ago in factoring your decision for your hard earned cash and patronage.

I was really looking forward to this place. I love the original Ibiza, and was eagerly looking forward to this new place. I made a reservation with Ibiza Tapas a week before Mothers day, so I could take my wife and kids. I left a message, and a person called me back the next day to confirm my reservation for Mothers day AT Ibiza Tapas (specifically not the restaurant downtown). When we arrived on Sunday (today), the owner told us that there was no reservation for us, and that we mustve made a reservation at the other restaurant. I responded that this was impossible, because I had specifically confirmed this location. I even checked my cell phone cell log, and sure enough, the number was correct for the Ibiza Tapas Wine Bar and Cafe. The owner just shrugged and said it mustve been MY mistake. Completely ruined our Mothers day dinner. Ever try to find a restaurant with space on Mothers day with no reservation? Pretty much impossible. Went home with a very bitter taste in my mouth. If you enjoy surly, arrogant service, with a touch of snobbery, then this place is for you. Otherwise, take your business elsewhere, where they actually know how to serve the customer.

Let me start off by saying the food was AWESOME......HOWEVER there is a story behind this though. My friend and I visited Ibiza Tapas in Hamden yesterday(Jan. 15th) for "Happy Hour". We had a $50 voucher to use in which was told to the bartender at the time we sat at the bar table however when it was time to pay, he changed our "happy hour" prices to "full" prices which caused our bill to go over by $27.10. We were "LIVID" and when asked why the prices changed, we were told that the voucher doesnt cover "happy hour" prices which does NOT state that in the fine print at the bottom of the voucher nor did he bring it to our attention when we first told him of the voucher. I felt it was good experience up til then and we argued and argued about it even having him to contact his manager but of course we loss(sad) so the moral to this review is to let EVERYONE know that they will need to clarify the exclusions clearly when presenting vouchers from Amazon Local to this place. I alerted Amazon who are in the process of looking into this matter and possibly needing to add this information to any future vouchers purchased for Ibiza Tapas. Tawanza
