Delightfully Gnarly
Our family LOVES Costa Vida. We have a long history of eating at this chain restaurant in another state and were thrilled when they opened this location. Unfortunately some of the the employees at this location are apathetic (or unhappy?) about working here. On one occasion I ordered a pork entrée, it is the only meat I ever order from CV. The tall young man repeated back my order correctly and then proceeded to give me chicken. When I corrected him, in an annoyed tone he told me I ordered chicken. After I got the food corrected and sat down the manager came over and asked what had happened, I explained. He responded that the fans overhead make it difficult for the employees to hear the orders. But he did hear me correctly because he had repeated back to me what I had ordered. I understand that mistakes are made or sometimes people can get forgetful but I didnt need the side dish of sarcasm that I got from this young man. Today I got a small drink for my daughter. I filled it up with ice and vitamin water and immediately put the cap on. She said her tummy hurt and so I went back to the drink machine to add some Sprite to see if it would settle her stomach. When I pulled the lid off the cup there was a bug floating on top of the ice, something with clear wings and an elongated body. I fished it out of the cup and called over a man that was wearing a black collared CV shirt. He took the bug, and it didnt seem to bother him much, response was something asking the lines of I dont know how that got in there. No apology, no order to make it right, nothing. We sat down and finished our meal because I had been very hungry, but the more I thought about the bug, the more nauseated I became. I wish we had just dumped everything and left. However, because I did sit there for a while, I watched the nothing that happened, the ice machine was not checked or cleaned out. And I watched the man I spoke with go into the mens room and put on his street clothes and leave for the day. :(

Horrible experience and price. Families with kids. Save your money and go somewhere else where your kids will fill up and have better quality food for cheaper. I got a 2 Taco entrée and their was only 3 pieces of chicken on one taco and 4 on the other one about 1"x1". About a tablespoon of rice and the same amount for the black beans. The price was about $7.99 plus a drink at $1.89. I asked one of the ladies that was making my taco for the side sautéed veggies and asked her if it was extra. She said, of course, I asked how much, she didnt know but said, I think $2.50. I said ok. No thanks. I ask the cashier ( a teenager girl that looked like she was 14) if this was a kids meal. She looked at me rather rudely and sarcastically sighed and said a big NO that this is the entrée meal and thats how we proportionate the meals. I said, well thats not much meat for an entrée. She looked at me and rudely said, if I was going to pay or not... For a family of 4 (2 teens) it cost us over $46.00 for 4 entrée meals plus drinks. With the portions being so small and quality very, very subpar I would rather go to a sit down restaurant like (Coronas, Baja Fresh, Chipotle or Anas Mexican Grill) and would have got twice as much food and cheaper. I think I will go to a Chipotle or Baja Fresh next time for fast Mexican food that doesnt nickel and dime you for extras and the quality is better and you get more bang for your dollars.

Have been here a 3 times and previously enjoyed the food a lot, but went today and was very disappointed. In previous visits the tortilla on the burrito was nicely toasted, but this time it was soggy and tasteless. Prior visits included rice and beans on the side of the burrito -- that is no more. Kid behind the counter seemed annoyed to be working and ignored me when I asked for pico inside the burrito. I asked the manager if anything has changed and his response was no. Guess my first 2 visits were an anomaly. Will probably switch back to Chipotle and Qudova which are more consistent.

Absolutely horrible! Went inside at 11:30 on Sunday. Only one person behind the counter. And he wasnt talking or helping. Some other people came out from the back after a brief wait. Wife and I order the pork special. Asked for two cokes, but told to soft drink machine wasnt working, and they had not made tea. Only water to drink. Took our food to eat outside and the pork was mostly all fat. Whole meal looked like mush. I took the food back inside and got a refund. We left NEVER to return again. This place needs to close down!

Really disappointed in our service today. The manager or shift leader on duty was rude and didnt seem interested in being courteous at all. We were told one thing by one employee and then she came over to say we would have to pay twice the amount and the entree was for a 4 year. She was really snippy and I informed her that we would never be back. Dont waste your money here. Go to Cafe Rio 2 miles away and get better food and way better service. There is a reason Cafe Rio is always full and there is hardly anyone in this joint.

Decided to try Costa Vida today for lunch. It has a nice, fun, relaxed atmosphere. I tried the Cheese Enchiladas, with Green Chile sauce. I have never had Green Chile sauce that was sweet, but this was. And it was not a good sweet either. It just tasted wrong and definitely not what I wanted. Had the sauce been better, I think the food would have been good. Even the beans and rice were good. I would not be opposed to going there again and trying something different, but I will definitely steer clear of the Green Chile.

Been there once before food was okay, went there today for the second time and the lady making my food was ridiculously rude extra Small servings I ask for a little more , and she charged me for a whole side. When I went to pay she made sure she stood next to the cashier and added her two since In, I finally just left with out my food and will never go back worse experience Ive had.

For those who havent been here imagine a qudoba with substantially better ingredients and flavor. They make their tortillas fresh in front of you and their meat and sauces all have a lot of flavor. Only complaint is what they say is their spiciest sauce doesnt even really cause a tingle on the tongue. Would love to see them creat a truly spicy sauce with the flavor they provide.

As someone else pointed out, the food here is a little on the sweet side. I guess its a California thing. Not spicy and its a little confusing how to order or what to order. The folks behind the counter look like zombies when you ask for help. Dont expect Chipotle type food. I do like the food here but its not like "OMG I cant wait to come back here" type of experience.
